So many ridiculous requirements. You could just get the premier account and accept the $15 fee for 6 months. You’ll profit $210, although you’ll pay taxes on $300.

Fee looks to be $20 on the premier now, makes it even worse. $180 net. Plus whatever taxes you’ll owe on the $300.Still a net overall, but if they require real DD, that’s setting up real DD / debit transactions each month.

Edit – Yeah, at 30% tax, this is what, a measly $90? Way too much for too little.

” … you’ll receive a $25 monthly credit for the first 6 statement cycles.” Sorry, I demand more immediate gratification, at least at this end of the scale.

just want to mention that this particular bank has won my first lifetime achievement award for total and complete incompetence in the line of duty. Get bonus, do not engage in further transactions of any sort. Close when appropriate.
I repeat-lifetime achievement award for total incompetence.

Looks like they have expanded into a few other states… Might be time for a post refresh.  William Charles

Per the $300 bonus page at: https://www.peoplesbancorp.com/personal/banking/checking/interest-plus-checking/

“Open a Peoples Bank Interest Plus Checking account by applying online or visiting a local branch in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland or Washington, D.C.”

It should have been noted that the old $300 offer is currently $150, and the old $150 offer (w/ easier fee avoidance) no longer exists.  William Charles Direct link to offer is above.

You can delete my comment. Oops. Both offers still exist but should be linked separately IMO.  William Charles

Having trouble finding the previous post. Any OOS hope?

There was no previous post AFAIK. How much prior to 2020 do you want to go?

In branch, OOS, sure. Online, the 1st page of the application says you need to reside in the certain states.

  • “You must have an existing deposit account or be a resident of the state of OH, WV, KY, VA, DC or MD”

It’s not even a $100 bonus once you calculate lost interest, so, it would be better to wait until (if & when) the $300 offer appears.

anyone made account during this promo? It looks like incoming transactions are fine, but Peoples bank is stopping any outgoing transaction….disabling (giving error) the outbound transaction initiated from People bank or even rejecting the pull initiated by another bank. Called Customer Service, they could not find any problem…. strange !! So I can out money in, but can not take it out…..I have not received my debit card yet too!

Peoples bank is blocking the withdrawal during the verification initiated by the other banks. As a result, links for ACH push to peoples bank from external banks are getting cancelled/disabled.

There’s definitely an early termination fee. I’ve dealt with Peoples Bank in the past. Well-run and growing regional bank out of Marietta, Ohio, that still has a ways to go before they can hang with the big boys.

Seems like too much work for the $150 and too much money tied up for the $300 lol. Still appreciate the post though. Thanks DoC!

It could make sense to do the larger bonus and just pay the monthly fee if you are a min/maxer that’s planning on doing real direct deposits / don’t mind some risk and your marginal fed&state tax rate is less than 40%.

$15 monthly fee * 6 months = $90 in fees
($300 bonus – $150 bonus) * 40% marginal fed&state tax rate = $60 in additional taxes
Total extra expenses = $150 = Total extra bonus

like it. $50 bonus/month-$15 fee/month=$35 gain/month up to 6 months. (total $210 after 6 months vs $150 bonus). Good if there is no early termination fee (after 6 months), bad if there is ETF.

Even with a ETF you can usually downgrade the account
