Most Popular Amazon Prime Day Deals So Far

The first few hours of Amazon Prime Day have now finished (and we’re now into Prime Day officially) I thought I’d share with you the most ordered items by Doctor of Credit readers yesterday:

  1. Any type of Dash button for $0.99 (you also get $5.99 in Amazon credit). It’s actually kind of ridiculous how many of these were ordered, but that obviously it’s mostly just for that sweet $4.99 Amazon credit + no rush shipping credits.
  2. Amazon: 23andMe DNA/Genetic/Ancestry Test + 75 Reports For $99 (Normally $199) [Prime Only]. This was the most popular (apart from those damn Dash buttons) before we made a dedicated post and it only grew from there. Seems to be good value if you’re interested in this sort of testing.
  3. Amazon Echo – Black for $89.99. 50% off the list price and Amazon has been pushing these as hard as they can for Prime day.
  4. [Back in Stock] Free Amazon Dash Wand after $20 Shopping Credit (Can Be Used For Alexa Only Deals). Surprised this was so high, was hoping most readers would have already picked one up at our suggestion to take advantage of the Alexa only deals.
  5. Echo Dot (2nd Generation) – Black for $34.99. Amazon again pushing this one a lot and $15 off the list price.
  6. LG Stylo 2 Prepaid Carrier Locked – Retail Packaging (Boost) for $69.99. Not sure what the play is here, maybe it was just one person ordering a lot of units?
  7. All-New Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa, 8″ HD Display, 16 GB, Black – with Special Offers. Cheap entry level tablet, the special offers are surely annoying though.
  8. AUKEY 20000mAh Portable Charger with Lightning and Micro-USB Input, 3.4A Dual USB Output for iPhone 7/7 Plus, Samsung and More. Sold out not was going for like $11?
  9. Logitech MK270 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo — Keyboard and Mouse Included, 2.4GHz Dropout-Free Connection, Long Battery Life for $12.50. I’m super happy with my mx anywhere 2 but that is obviously considerably more expensive. Not sure what this is like for an entry level system.
  10. Kindle Paperwhite E-reader – Black, 6″ High-Resolution Display (300 ppi) with Built-in Light, Wi-Fi – Includes Special Offers for $89.99. Love my paperwhite as well, again not sure how annoying the special offers edition is.

This is the first time we’ve really covered a sale like this before. I know some readers are finding it incredibly annoying and rest assured we will be back to our regular posting once Prime Day is over. A big thanks to every reader that has used our Amazon links for this sale, I’m honestly overwhelmed. As always I must remind you that you can go through JetBlue instead to get 3x JetBlue points on all Amazon purchases, our complete guide to saving money on Amazon can be found here. I’ll keep updating this post with any interesting deals I find.

Is there any downside of just blindly buying all the dashelp buttons that you can?

I just tried to buy an Uber GC for $79 and waitlist was already full. This was at 10:30 + 30 seconds! Actually, Amazon’s clock was 30 seconds ahead of mine… 🙁

I would say the “special offers” version of the Kindle products is nothing to be concerned with, at all. I think the “offers” are only displayed on the lock screen when you’re not using the unit. I’ve never noticed them anywhere else.

Agree with MattLaw, every Kindle I’ve ever owned has had special offers and I don’t mind them at all. Kind of makes you wonder why anyone would get the one without the offers!

William, the phone deal is also available as a Virgin Mobile locked phone for the same price. You just toggle to Virgin on the Amazon product screen.

It would be smart if Amazon sold Prime at the old price as part of the promo

About those gift card prime day deals, wth? What is there 1 card for every 100 people that want one? I was ready and loaded this a.m., to snap up the american eagle card that was supposed to go live at 7:19 a.m. for prime members…. with T-20 seconds, not available yet. Count to 20, load the page again, and BAM, sold out!!!??? wth?

Ok, I’m on the waiting list…. (clock was still reading 7:19 a.m.) So how does THAT work?

If this is what Amazon prime-day is all about, misleading sales with inadequate supply, then I’m so not impressed.

Wow, it was even “worse” for the JCPenney card deal which went “live” for Prime Members at 8:50. At 8:50:01, it was not only sold out, but the wait list was full.

Foul. So what the…. is the trick that “everybody” else seems to know to get in on the Prime deals for gift cards? (Yes, I tried the putting it in the basket 15 minutes ahead of time. Didn’t help)

Same thing just happened with UBer — tried to buy one at EXACTLY 10:30:00 est — at first it was showing $100 price. Re-clicked, got the indication for a sec of $79, clicked to buy – saw wait list — but then it says wait list full.

…………….. grrrrrr……………

Seriously?

I got a bit farther. Clicked at exactly 10:30 est and I got put on the wait list. They probably have five or ten. Not holding out hope for any of the others. Same things happened with the Express deal which started at the same time.

Maybe amazon will make this nonsense right with a small credit to the folks that waited only to be beaten down at the door by who knows what mechanism was able to buy that quickly.
