Lol at Will including the salmon name change news from Taiwan.
A couple of tidbits:
1. A guy went as far as pre-emptively changing his name to “salmon tuna marlin prawn shrimp scallop abalone sea urchins Wagyu beef snow crab mitten crab lobster” in case promotions for other food show up.
I’m not kidding, proof: https://tw.appledaily.com/resizer/XbhoT0T3ijP68M0kzGKiwHnSpwc=/arc-photo-appledaily/ap-ne-1-prod/public/5TGYTALJY5EGHLXGGEQMCTSS44.png
2. Another guy told his mom that it’s no big deal he’ll just change the name back after the promotion ends (each person is allowed 3 changes). His mom told him that his name was actually already changed twice as a kid and he’s now stuck with salmon on his National ID card.
Source: am Taiwanese.
Haha, both of these are hilarious.
Fun fact: Chase (the bank) is named in honor of Salmon P. Chase, who was Secretary of the Treasury in the 1800’s — in pre-sushi days. My first real job was at Chase Manhattan Bank, where we had to watch a film on the history of the company. The “Manhattan” part was the Manhattan Water Company, giving new meaning to liquid assets.
I hope the bank of Chase would provide free salmon meals for its cardholders on someday, e.g. the birthday of Mr. Salmon, oh no, I mean Mr. Chase.
Love that Mark Rober video.
It kind of make sense to make your name to salmon for the free food. Hopefully, restaurants in the US would follow it. Happy to change my name to Pizza or Taco if needed
On behalf of Phyllises everywhere, we are outraged.
That Glitterbomb video was fasinating. Best explanation ever for how those annoying, constant scam phone calls I get make $ for the scammers. Thanks, forwarding it to family/friends.
That’s ridiculous to change the name to Salmon just for some free food
don’t we do more for less sometimes… hahaha
Sounds like something a Taiwanese official would say, “Brandon.”
But it’s sushi!
Taiwanese here.
People do it cuz they would just switch it back to their real names after a few days.
The administrative system in Taiwan is so damn efficient and cheap, you’d get an updated ID card within the same day at the cost of a few bucks.
