What ever happened to natural immunity for those who recovered from COVID? I guess I need to get up to speed with “new science” (aka political science).

It’s like the flu. You are unlikely to get two flu infections back to back, but you may get two flu infections over two years. Natural immunity wanes and viruses mutate.

There are studies that show natural immunity can wane over time, although that may depend on the severity of the case. There are also studies that show lasting natural immunity from the original alpha case in preventing delta cases.

The current batch of vaccines and boosters were made to address the original alpha strain. Since the vaccines do not sterilize and prevent infection, they are leaky and can encourage more variants to develop. Thus the vaccine protection is certain to decrease. Unless you will be mandated to take boosters forever to address the mutations? And if you don’t, lose your job?

That’s a lot of shots of mRNA into your body for a virus with at least 99% survivability for most people. The long term effects are all unknown.

The science that says 35% of COVID infections result in zero antibodies within 2 months? Granted, some natural immunity is actually longer lasting and possibly more effective than the vaccine immunity. In the end, the extend of natural immunity has large variations. Vaccine immunity has variations, but not to the same extent. Unfortunately, we still are not able to determine the amount of immunity from antibody tests, so one’s natural immunity is largely a mystery. Your pointed comment does, ironically, ignore the actual science.

Science ….. when all debate is stopped because its Science. Tell us again why the antibodies from the vaccine require boosters 6 months after inoculation? The Nature Journal just published a report that says the antibodies in naturally occurring infections are lasting 7 months or longer. Interesting read from NPR….https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2021/08/30/1032520934/immunity-to-covid-19-could-last-longer-than-youd-think

This article almost exclusively examines and applauds vaccine immunity. Did you even read the article that you linked? I did acknowledge that some natural infection CAN produce longer lasting antibodies, so I’m at a loss as to what your point was. You mentioned boosters. Boosters are needed for at-risk people. Older individuals and people with immunosuppressant conditions are already higher risk for complications. Additionally, vaccines wear off — and sometimes all rendered almost ineffective at times — for these same people. Older individuals have immune systems that are less active and can lose protections to all sorts of diseases. Love your ironic name, btw.

Strange that places with the highest rates of vaccination are seeing the highest rates of COVID cases. Vermont, Massachusetts, Singapore, Israel.

The fact that boosters are being pushed now is proof that vaccine immunity is already wearing off.

What “actual science” am I ignoring?

Your highest rate “evidence” is demonstrably wrong. One, MA and VT are 40th and 28th in current cases per capita, respectively. How can you possibly so confident about being right, when you are so wrong? Secondly, the cherry-picked states, at a cherry-picked time, ignore the massive surges in places like FL and LA. You also ignore that CT has the highest vaccination rate and lowest COVID rate. Singapore would fit somewhere in the middle of the US, and they have a surge because they never really faced one due to draconian measures to fight the spread. Israel is 62% fully vaccinated — not very high at all. I know you’ll respond to get the last word, but I won’t respond to your next comment. Namely, because you obfuscate reality and data to fit your narrative. Also, please keep in mind that looking at the entire picture is much more important than picking a random week to cherry pick certain data.

If companies are being mandated to vaccinate their employees. Shouldn’t Bidens staff be mandated as well? Shouldn’t the people on Government Assistance be mandated as well? Comeon Man. Lets Go Brandon!

There is a federal employee vaccine mandate. But you knew that, right? You’re just hoping that other people are dumb enough not to.

Biden’s staff is mandated. All executive branch employees are required by executive order to present official documentation of full COVID-19 vaccination by 11/22/2021. (The judiciary and Congressional employees cannot be required to do so by executive order due to federal separation of powers.)

And what does government assistance have to do with anything? Are those individual proven more likely to contract and spread COVID-19 than the general public? Bringing up straw man arguments isn’t common sense, despite what your screen name indicates.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to the troll. Reminds me of a video i saw online yesterday – there was an antivax protest in LA or some other city (?) and one of the protesters with a bullhorn was saying something like “COVID is fake, why arent the homeless people we see around dropping like flies”. Then a homeless person walking nearby shouted “Because I am vaccinated, *expletive*!” It was glorious

Did I say anything about not getting the vaccination. How you equate my statement as an Anti-Vaxer is astounding. That straw is out of reach my friend. l have been vaccinated (not that its any of your business) …So, how can it be ok with you that there is a mandate for people who work, but not for those who are getting government assistance? Seems an easy fix, No Jab – No Check. Whats so confusing or offensive about that?

The vax mandate is not going to pass legal muster. As soon as OSHA releases the temp rules it will be struck down by Fed Courts of Appeal and SCOTUS will quickly settle the issue and find it illegal. Kind of like the AG extending the foreclosure moratorium knowing full well it was illegal. But nevertheless the mandate is doing its job anyway with big corps kissing the ring.

very good idea for SW to do this. Its time everybody got on board with public health. I would like to see this extended to other diseases too. Also maybe require all employees to get a PPD test for TB each quarter at the very least. I really don’t want any of my services provided by those with very communicable HIV so titres for that would be needed as well. Am I missing any others?

Little bit of a slippery slope there Jack, unless I am missing the satire in your post.

This mandate does nothing more than putting the boot on our throats. The vaccines have been proven to greatly reduce the symptoms of COVID-19 in those who take it, but do nothing to prevent the spread.

Those who decide not to take it aren’t putting others at risk, just themselves and it should be a personal decision to take, not under the threat and coercion of losing your livelihood.

We tried letting it be a “personal decision” for a while. It didn’t work. If people behave like children, they’ll get treated like children. So now the parents need to get tough. Sorry, Huey!

Are you in favor of the vaccine mandate for everybody? Or just those people who work? Do we have a vaccine mandate for those on government assistance?

I agree DAN! its time we all stop tolerating plague rats spreading their diseases. I vote to immediately revoke citizenship for everyone who won’t submit to a quarterly blood draw to detect any viral, bacterial, or other communicable pathogenic diseases. Its high time we move forward with legislation that denies access to services for anybody that refuses to prove they aren’t infected. Sick until proven HEALTHY!

So you prefer uncontrolled/unmitigated spread vs reduced severity of illness? Same folks (broadly speaking) who are against taking the vaccines are also against mitigation measures such as masking. So what do we do?

“ Those who decide not to take it aren’t putting others at risk, just themselves and it should be a personal decision to take, not under the threat and coercion of losing your livelihood.”

Your statement here is patently false and frankly ridiculous in the setting of a pandemic which so far in the US shows no sign of waning (a full year and a half into this some states were having a worse case load and death rate – after vaccines became available. Imagine that)

Are those folks who decide not to take it becoming hermits? So they refuse to take the vaccine (excluding those with medical/religious exemptions) and are free to spread the virus? Then those people who cant possibly take the virus (immune deficient, at risk for certain heart conditions etc) may potentially contract the virus and die or worse have long term complications post-disease.

We tried the personal decision route and it hasn’t worked.

People have literally died waiting for care because hospitals were overwhelmed with COVID patients who were just “making a personal decision,” but, when they got really sick, suddenly made a personal decision to believe in medicine again and decided to take up hospital beds. No thanks.

This! So many people willingly get themselves sick, end up in the hospital, and expose healthcare staff to heightened risks. Many doctors and nurses in this country died caring for such “personal responsibility” COVID patients.

People who opt out of mask and vaccine mandates for mere personal preferences need to sign a waiver foregoing medical treatment when they contract COVID.

The vast majority of COVID hospitalizations are for unvaccinated people. When hospitals are overwhelmed, non-COVID patients are turned away and some die. A veteran in Texas died from gall stones because the hospitals were full; an Alabama man with a cardiac emergency died after being turned away by 40 hospitals.
