- Amex now offers a new kind of sign-up bonus: earn points for adding an authorized user! by US Credit Card Guide. Not a surprise to see this at all, American Express has obviously been testing it for awhile now and the targeted authorized user bonuses have becoming more common.
- Seems like some people have been enrolled in Pay Over Time with American Express even if they didn’t sign up. This is an issue as American Express sometimes offers 10,000 point bonuses. It looks like what has happened is that some (all?) cardholders that checked for the 10,000 point offer were auto enrolled even if the 10,000 point offer didn’t show. Would love some more data points on this.
- US considers cabin laptop ban on flights from UK airports by The Guardian. File this away as developing.
- Why pay more? Here’s why paying 25K points is sometimes better than 15K by Frequent Miler. Most people will already know/do this, but worth keeping in mind. Biggest take away is: “always use the most restrictive currency that delivers the closest to the maximum potential value for each redemption”.Â
I’ve checked for this 10K offer multiple times on my personal platinum – never got targeted. I’m not enrolled in any of the Pay Over Time features.
Interesting, thanks for the DP
I was unknowingly enrolled in “Select and Pay Later” on two of my cards (Platinum, PRG) in October. I called to inquire about the 10,000 point bonus for Extended Payment in that time frame but told the CSR I did not want to enroll since I was only intrigued by the bonus points. Low and behold, I was enrolled in Select and Pay Later anyway. I asked about this on another call to get the 10,000 point bonus on my BRG card a couple of weeks ago, and they told me I asked to be enrolled (totally false). Do I have any recourse here? Is Select and Pay Later the same as Extended Pay? I do see that I am still not enrolled in Extended Pay. Happy to be a DP in speaking to Amex if anyone has any ideas.
I’d escalate and ask them to check your previous calls. They should be able to fix it.
