Recent Targeted Barclaycard Spending Offers

It’s almost the start of a new quarter so it’s time for Barclaycard to send out an array of targeted offers (both by e-mail and regular postal mail), if you didn’t receive any of these and have the card then you can try calling Barclaycard to get enrolled, but people haven’t had a lot of success in the past.

Without further ado, here are some of the offers:

The Offers

Without further ado, here are some of the offers. Keep in mind the promotional period is the same for all of these offers, it starts on October 1st and runs through December 31st.

Aviator Red – Spend $1,500, Receive 15k Miles

Via Will Run For Miles

Spend $500 a month in October, November & December and receive 15,000 bonus miles.

Aviator Red – 2x Bonus Miles (2,500 point max)

Via Take Off With Miles

This bonus gives you 2x bonus miles (so 3x miles total) on the following categories: gas, restaurant and department, toy and game store purchases.

Miles & More – 2x Bonus Points  (2,500 point max)

Via Travelling The World For Less

This bonus gives you 2x bonus miles (so 3x miles total) on the following categories: gas, restaurant and department, toy and game store purchases.

Sallie Mae – 2x Bonus Points (2,500 point max)

This bonus gives you 2x bonus points (so 3x points total) on the following categories: travel and department, toy and game store purchases. I was hoping this would give 2x on gas purchases as well, that way you could get 7x on gas with this card but it wasn’t meant to be.

Wyndham – 2x Bonus Points  (2,500 point max)

Via Michael W Travels

This card earns 2x points on all purchases and 3x points on Wyndham purchases, with this deal you earn a bonus 2x points (so 4x points total) on the following categories: gas, restaurant and department, toy and game store purchases.

Citi ThankYou Premier – 5x Points (2,500 point max)

Via Takeoff With Miles

Earn 5x points on the following categories: clothing stores, computer & electronic stores, toy stores & department stores. You can earn a maximum of 2,500 points from this promotion. (Note: I know this isn’t Citi, but I decided to include it anyway. Kind of weird how everybody is targeting toy stores, but makes sense given it’s the giving/spending season).

Our Thoughts

I’ve noticed an interesting trend on my own cards, when the annual fee is almost due they will send a spend X amount per month for three months deal. This means I need to keep the card and pay the annual fee (Barclaycard will refund the annual fee if you cancel within 60 days of paying it, but the miles/points won’t post before then), this is quite a genius way for them to offer a retention bonus without cardholders really realizing it. I suspect they also send these offers to only cardholders they think have a high likelihood of cancelling their cards as well.

The bonus category offers seem to be a bit more random, but are probably sent out to cardholders who used to spend in those categories and no longer do OR haven’t had much activity on their card lately and Barclaycard is trying to get their cards to front of wallet again.

Called aviator. Told them can I get the offer. Nope.

Told them no incentive for me to spend on the card. Too bad! Makes me think they will let closw the card and not try to retain me. I must have spent close to 60k. All ms.

They did give me 10k bonus, just like that for nothing.

What did you guys do to get this offer? Are you close to anniversary date i.e potential cancel?

There is also a Priceline.com targeted offer: 2 bonus points per $1 up to 2500 bonus points, on Gas Stations, Restaurants, Department, Toy and Game stores.

If you have the 2% card, that makes it a 4.44% restaurant card if you redeem your points for travel. Or 3.33% if you have the newer 1% card.

And actually, if you have the 2% card, it makes it a 6.67% card on the bonus categories when redeemed for NYOP/express deal hotels.

It’s good to hear reports on the Wyndham card. I’m hoping they send me an offer soon.

I got the 15k offer and the 2x on select categories…so I am assuming I can hit them both for max earning..being in one doesn’t discount me from the other correct?

We have 3 Wyndham cards in our family. Each received an outstanding offer and 6 months from the annual fee being due: Spend $250 or $500 or $750 per month (we each have a different amount) for Sep/Oct/Nov, and each get 10K Wyndham points. 2/3 of a free night for each. We stay in NYC at the $420/night Wyndhams (with breakfast and tax), so this is a slam dunk for each to get about $280 in value. In fact, this is the highest leveraged offer for anything (ex-post signup bonus) I’ve ever gotten on any of my 100 c cards over the past 8 years.

I got the 2x bonus rewards on the Barclaycard Aviator. Pretty useless. I would consider keeping the card if I got one of the 15,000 bonus point offers, but lacking that, I’ll definitely cancel it.

Why is one persons spending better than others. Why not give it to everyone. What a bunch of maroons.

I got the offer for my Miles & More card: spending $250 each month for three months, get 10,000 additional miles. More than 10x earning ratio. Very good.
