[Rumor] American Express To Discontinue Blue from American Express [Not OBC Or Any Other Useful Card)

According to an inside source at American Express, they plan to discontinue the Blue from American Express card. Before people get too panicked, this isn’t the old blue cash card or any other useful product. It’s a $0 annual fee card with no sign up bonus that earns 1x American Express Membership Rewards points per $1 spent, as far as I know this is the only card where the membership rewards points aren’t transferable to the American Express travel partners.

I’m surprised this card hasn’t been discontinued sooner, it’s entirely pointless especially considering the AmEx EveryDay card that also earns Membership Rewards points with no annual fee and those points are transferable and it has bonus categories and other features.

I just noticed today, 14 July 2022, that Blue is gone from Amex’s website. It may have disappeared before, but it was still there in early 2022. I wish they would let me PC my nearly (its backdated to the 90s) worthless Blue to the updated BCE.

I use mine (my oldest Amex) for Amex offers.
The original Blue for Business also earns nontransferable MR points.

Having the Blue for Students with 3000 CL
I can see the upgrade to “Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card”
BUT no bonus…

I just complete the 25000 bonus for Amex EveryDay…

My longest running current credit card from 1997 -this was the first one I ever got a sign-up bonus for. I think it was for a duffle bag at an air show. Geesh, I really didn’t know any better! I’m surprised they haven’t cancelled this card on me yet since I’ve used it a total of 0 times over the last 5+ years.

Signed up for this for the bonus last year, canceled it shortly after cause the AMEX offers weren’t much better than the PRG. It might be the most useless AMEX card ever?

I don’t have this card and I really shouldn’t have to read through posts that don’t apply to me. Can anyone recommend a blog that doesn’t fill up my time with posts about cards I don’t have?!?!

wow…… our snarking, self-centered culture has become so brutal these days. Well, you could go off and create your own perfect blog, and then presume to know that you speak only for what matters. Or you could just see the headline and move along to something that might be of interest to you. Or you could waste your time wailing about how this is not relevant to you. Suit yourself.

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic since he ended with: /s

Speaking of this card I’ve been following this hobby casually for about 4 years and never heard of this card, but it seems like a real turd card, and I can’t imagine it being missed. Seems like almost everyone would be better off with a 2% cash back card.

One of our very first cards too — long ago, and like you, recall we were product changed to Blue Cash Everyday.. More recently, we went for the (temporary) promo to upgrade to Blue Cash Preferred (the one w/ 6% back on groceries)

Ha I actually have one of these im a drawer somewhere bc it’s by far my oldest account and for the offers. They once tried to PC me to the ED card but I said no bc I wanted a signup bonus and they wouldn’t give me any points for switching. I never ended up getting that bonus on the ED card yet though…

hhmm….very interesting.

My first ever credit card is a “Blue for Students” i got back in college and its over 15 years old, my oldest credit line. It hasn’t been available for awhile but i still keep it around for AOA, CL, and Amex Offers.

I wonder if mine is going to be discontinued also? I don’t see why they wouldn’t continue to let me use like they have for all this time…

Are you sure it’s still that card? I think I read those were converted to these

In everywhere that there is a name, wesbite, statement, etc, it says “Blue for Students”. I have never received any notice of anything about the card changing, and nothing ever has.

no annual fee. 1 MR per $1 spent. Pools with all my other MR.

What if you have this and ED card? Would they PC and give me another? I have this card which used to be the blue preferred but I downgraded because I wasn’t using and to keep Amex offers.
