[Expired] Simon Mall: $1 Off Visa Giftcards From 12/10-12/24

Deal has expired, view more Simon Mall deals by clicking here.

Update 12/10/18: Confirmed to be offered at least some Simon Malls, not sure yet if it’s available at all. Share your data points in the comments below.

Original post: According to a tip received by Frequent Miler Simon Mall plans to offer $1 off Visa gift card activation fees between December 10th and December 24th, 2018. This brings the activation fee to $2.95. In October they had a similar deal on American Express gift cards. Visa cards are significantly easier to unload so I suspect this promotion will be a lot more popular than the previous promo. Simon Mall also recently started stocking Mastercard gift cards as well, so if this Visa news is true then let’s hope it’s not just Simon clearing the last of the Visa gift card inventory.

A whole dollar. Imagine all the possibilities with an extra dollar.

Some people MS tens of thousands of dollars daily, so a dollar adds up quickly (cough cough *pointschaser* cough).

99.5% of us dont have a way to do that. Where i live personally i can MS about 6K a month at WM by going there once a week and doing MOs and BB reloads but anything over that they get suspishious.

Some people are even less lucky and cant MS at all like in chicago or LA

I realize this, but it’s still just a dollar. Even if you do it 100 times, it’s still only $100. Grocery stores often run fuel bonuses or $5-10 off, which is significantly more than a dollar.

Why is it always either or with you people? Running 10k a day through Simon is simply a baseline. Anything above it is maybe decent MS.

How many gallons of fuel can you possibly use unless you run a fleet of trucks? I fill up maybe 2-3 times a month…and that’s only because of MS related driving 🙂 Try going to Simon mall 4-5x a week and buying $9k at a time, then it’ll add up over the two weeks.

Those of us working on the minimum spend for Amex cards sadly have to avoid simon malls and grocery stores

Why do you gave to avoid grocery stores? There’s no level 3 data.

I would love to be able to MS 6K a month. I just started and am doing about 4-5K. What are you doing? Just buying gc’s, eat the fee and reload or buy mo’s?

I assume you use a debit card. I mean, why get 2% cash back, on most purchases that’s like $0.50 or less.

You are a newbie.

This is a gold mine.

Ariel – Go to a Simon Mall and get 10k in VGC it’s not difficult. Unload at WM and local Grocery for MO.

95% of my local WM suck and only allow 2 swipes per person per day, meaning 1k max. Luckily I have 1 that allows 4 swipes, but I wish I had more. It took a lot of trial and error just to find that one. That’s the process though.

They’ve run this promotion before, I doubt they would get rid of VISA

Not a rumor. Simon sent out emails to malls several weeks ago outlining weekly promotion schedule.

I’ve heard that CC companies exclude simon from MSR. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

What about US Bank-issued Amex?

bob

no, that works fine. WF Propel AMex ,too, as well as BBVA Amex – all work great at Simon

Never had an issue counting Simon spend towards MSR.

Was at Arundel Mills today. The person at guest services denied the existence of this AND of the $20 AmEx card for purchasing $150+ Visa/AmEx card. She looked through a book she said all the promotions for the upcoming month and it wasn’t there, although she wouldn’t let me see the book.

Leo

I sure hope you made a big fuss and screamed and yelled at her. “How dare you deny me for this! I am entitled to it! Give it to me now or I will call corporate! Who is your boss?” “Oh, and give me that damn book so I can see for myself…. you’re denying me!”

Follow the golden rule of MS – “OK, thanks” and move on to the next opp or try again the next day. Don’t make a scene.

Worked for me today at Simon in VA

Which Simon? I checked online and none of the VA ones are showing the discount. I’ll go Arundel again cause I need to make some purchases regardless, but I’m skeptical…

my coworker visited our local Premium simon mall today and said he did not get the $1 off. But we’ll see, maybe it was just the teller forgot.

Got $1 off GCs today. I *think* it said that $1 off $400-$500 GCs, but not 100% certain…(not that it matters much for folks here 🙂 )

Worked at my local Simon mall. Definitely not worth the time though. They make you sign paperwork for each gift card and then each purchase has to be a separate transaction. Took me almost 20 minutes to buy 8 of them. Wanted to get more, but the employee did not seem pleased and someone got in line behind me so I stopped at 8. Between the crowds at the mall and the time to process each one, I’d say this is not worth it for large scale MS’ers.

CM

What do you mean paperwork for each one? Why does it have to be separate transactions, usually it all works on a single receipt?

Al
Al

They keep a log of the # of $1 off gift cards that are sold and give you a sheet to fill out for each one. Then each gift card was processed as a separate transaction. I told her that I normally buy in one transaction, but she was adamant that separate was the only way to do this. It probably took her a little over a minute for each transaction. Add 5 minutes to find parking and 10 minutes walking to/from the car because of the Xmas crowd and the whole thing took over half an hour. I didn’t find it to be worth my time, but YMMV.

They should only require one form per $10k per day. Besides, you could ask for a stack of the blank forms to take home and prefill the forms before you go in, if you plan on doing it more than once. Should get you in and out in 10-15 mins depending on how fast the rep could process the GCs you buy.

Al
Al

Yes, when buying Simon GC normally it’s one form, but for this promotion she made me do one for each GC. Might’ve been a misinformed rep or maybe that’s how this promo works. The forms only took me a few mins of my time, it was the transactions that took a good bit, probably a little over a minute per GC.

Does Amex get Level 3 data on Simon Mall gc purchases?
