Update 5/13/21: This has now been confirmed.
According to PMM in the coming days Southwest will expand service to Hawaii. The new routes are expected to be as follows:
- Los Angeles International Airport – LAX
- Honolulu
- Maui
- Kona
- Kauai
- McCarran International Airport – LAS
- Honolulu
- Maui
- Kona
- Kauai
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport – PHX
- Honolulu
- Maui
- Kona
- Kauai
I’ve got no idea how reliable this rumor is but a Hawaii expansion makes sense.
If you’re flying with your kids to Kahului or Turks and Caicos in June or July, please sit in the back of the plane far away from me so that I don’t have to be reminded of what kindergarten screams sound like during takeoff. Thanks.
these flights are live now
I have also heard from an employee friend that direct flights from PHX are coming soon. Very exciting!
Eventually Southwest will make a play for Hawaiian
I mean, Hawaii is technically the most southwest state, geographically
Just my 2c: given that they share no alignment on aircraft, the only benefit to them would be operations and network share. I don’t see this happening tbh. Hawaii travel has just picked up IMMENSELY and southwest is meeting that demand by linking the other big hubs for Hawaii bound flights.
Generally agree. Southwest can take immense share organically just due to the free bags policy. For a family of 4, if each person has a checked bag (Hawaii is normally a longer trip) and there is one inter-island, a $30 bag fee adds up to $360 for the trip. For this reason, dad logic is willing to forgive Southwest’s less than ideal hubs and scheduling.
Looking forward to the HNL to LAS expansion. It will drastically cut down the time need to get to U.K. with arrival at LGW (preferable to me than LHR). If the timelines align correctly, I can in U.K. From Hawaii in between 17-20 hours. Typically it’s currently 23-25 hours due to a 8-10 hour layover in Dallas.
Ha’zit brah? You stay from Oahu?
omni air flies the charter between HNL and LAS and hawaiian airlines has the only daily nonstop flights between HNL and LAS. its about time competition comes for this route.
Sweet LAS to OGG been waiting for this one since LAS is one of the few directs left out of MCI. Hopefully we can fly SW and be in Maui by noon
If you’re planning on taking your kids on a magical once-in-a-lifetime vacation to Hawai’i this year or next year, maybe stay at home instead?
How come you can limit one’s FREEDOM???
Because they chose 5% categories instead of a flat 1.5% cash back?
STAY INSIDE people. WEAR YOUR MASKS! FOREVER!!! EVEN IF VACCINATED.
Pretty sure no one asked for Dr Harry’s opinion. You stay home and spare everyone your philippics.
Never ever travel again. Never ever. Not in 2021. Nope. Not safe. Don’t be a jerk and travel. Be a GOOD person and don’t do anything outside your home.
I’m surprised there’s no Houston or Dallas since they started in Texas!
Now… When will they start flying to Canada…
Probably outside their airplanes’ range.
pretty much everything out of Dallas we have to do connections thanks to our very nice legislators (not everything has changed with respect to the wright ammendment)
Might be a range thing. DAL-HNL is 3,298 nautical miles. HOU-HNL is 3,398 nautical miles. The range of the 737 MAX tops out at 3,850 nautical miles. That’s cutting it a little close….
It’s definitely the range, won’t see that route unless SWA gets new aircraft types
Can a loaded B38M even make it from DFW to HNL
This gets us to Hawaii on a one stop flight with southwest. Previously we had to stop in a hub, then fly to California then on to Hawaii. Now it’s just a stop in Phx or LAS. I’ll take it.
