Sakura Debit Card To Be Discontinued On January 31st

Sakura has sent out an e-mail to debit cardholders letting them know that support for this product will be discontinued on January 31st, some readers might have this card due to the $250 bonus that was being offered. E-mail as follows:

Thank you for your interest in the reloadable debit card through Sakura! We are writing to let you know that, as of January 31st at 5PM PST, this product is no longer being supported by the company.

What does this mean for you? If you have a remaining balance on the card, you will be sent a check for the exact dollar amount of that remaining balance – this check will be sent to the same address that you received your Sakura card to initially. The check will be cut with the remaining balance as of 5PM PST on January 31st.

In the meantime, if you linked a bank account and have been reloading your card, you will no longer be able to reload your card via your linked bank account. Thank you for your participation with the reloadable debit card.

Cheers,
The Sakura Team

Got an unexpected $50 check from Sakura today. I signed up and got the $200, which I immediately liquidated into an Amazon GC just in case. I completed the $50 survey, but it didn’t credit immediately so I just assumed it was toast, as they had pulled the plug pretty quick on the survey bonus.

DP: Check came today. Completely unexpected because shortly after I got the card they closed the program.

No. I should have drained the card, obviously.

i received mine finally but only after threatening to take them to small claims court, and filing complaints with the cfpb. the company now operates under hatch. call them daily if you can. they’ll eventually give in.

When did you receive your check?

Around March 5. I must have called 15 times before and was given the run-around. It wasn’t until I threatened legal action that they called me back saying my check is being cut “today”.

I messaged them via SM and they claimed it must have been lost in the mail. They resent and I got it. Thanks for the tips!

Has anyone received their check from Sakura? Their email said that the check will be issued on 1/31 but I have not received it in the mail yet.

I haven’t and was wondering the same. Should have drained the card when they made the announcement.

Never wait on a check from a company in despair. Should have drained the account as soon as the email was sent out. I shredded my card 1/31. Funds were out the day it was credited.

Oh good. Now I can shred the card. Hope they’re not planning to send a 1099.

Now that the Sakura debit card is going away, does anyone know when the Shakira debit card will come to the market?

Nice. Not bad to get personal information to steal identity for 250.

unless you used an EIN like I did. They emailed me asking for my social security number or my account would be closed a few months ago, but I just cashed it out before then.

haven’t used it yet, but will gladly take the cash payout. tried using with the cash app, but it thinks it’s a credit card vs debit.

Do you trust them? I am thinking about 1) Amazon GC, 2) Safeway GC, or maybe 3) buy a money order.

As soon as I got the $250 it went to Amazon GC reload

Smart.
I missed the survey but both P1 and P2 in this household got the loaded cards. I am seriously thinking about going this route — probably this weekend.

That was quick for it to be discontinued! Not surprising as their advertising was quite lackluster to say the least.
