Our Verdict

Samsung Pay points are worth ~0.5¢ each, so this is about $12.5 in points for completing this deal. Samsung Pay & Visa checkout just recently announced their partnership was live, I speculated at the time that they might offer a bonus like this and here we go. i was NOT able to see any promo section before i tried all the steps,or i did not sign up the promotion beforehand, since Doc said the promo still good till 12/27, I thought why not give a try, nothing to lose anyway even you missed some steps, but i am pretty sure you will get promo 2500 points if you follow my steps.

Thanks Simon. I just linked Samsung pay with Visa Checkout, but I am not able to see SamsungPay+VisaCheck combined icon/link at checkout. Instead, I only see Visa Checkout icon. In other words, I am not sure if I go through Samsung pay at all if I continue. Is this the same to you?

Yep, i didnt see any mention of this deal in my app and i just got it today with newegg.

You just have to link your Samsung pay and visa checkout accounts. I don’t even know how I linked them it just popped up asking if I wanted to link them. Why yes, yes I would like that.

Yes, go to Credit/Debit section in Samsung Pay app and add Visa checkout. You’ll have to login to visa checkout profile and the cards will link.
You WILL NOT get any confirmation about 2500 points.
Open samsung internet browser on your phone, order something from any VC merchant, like Dunkin, Newegg using visa checkout and samsung pay.
As soon as the payment is charged, you’ll get the 2500 points.

I got this offer working as of today, though I didn’t have this in my Promotions.

Thanks Chuck for posting this.

I think using Samsung’s browser is the key. I tried other browsers and that option simply does not show up. Thanks guys!

I bought me a used s6 and log on and the add visa check out link is gone, but I managed to get it done few minutes ago, hope this help some one. 1st open Samsung pay app, then click ADD on top right corner, then click online payment account/turn on visa checkout, then you will see some Visa card on your Samsung pay added wording showing its linked.

After linked,I use your Samsung phone to type in Walmart.com on chrome browser and log in my account, added $5 egift Walmart card to myself and verify address, then click more once at checkout/payment page, then chose Samsung+visa checkout, then choose which Visa card to use, then type pin or use finger print, then click place order, my 2500 point posted after 1 minutes. Easy . Thanks

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the information. I am not familiar with Samsung pay. Were you able to see the promo information in your Samsung App’s promo section before you did all these steps ?

Thanks.

Thanks Doc. It worked for me. I wonder what happens if you cancel the order? I know it is too frugal but just curious. The points are retained or lost? Anybody tried?

Update: Took over 30-40 min for payment to actually charge even though purchase confirmed immediately. 2500 points were instant when .01 actually charged to cc.

Update- kind of like mentioned above. Somehow you click the little credit card logo in my case, then goes to what looks like normal visa sign in so you think oh no. But don’t leave that screen. Now click little cc logo again and the change wallet popup finally comes up and you choose Samsung pay. Hallelujah! Then i had several additional bugs asking to change address etc many clicks, finally worked. Using samsung browser only- wallet change option does not come up on chrome. Did the new egg for .01 using SP with PIN. But still no points, purchase confirmes but not showing yet on cc or SP. Wow this is not ready for prime time what a hassle

Agreed, went thru the same steps except used fingerprint instead of PIN with S-pay, transaction, sent invoice from Newegg, but transaction not showing any of my Debit/Credit cards in Spay or pending with issuer, as well no points posted either.

But I did get a Fraud Call from my Issuer over the $0.01 transaction

WOW, a Security/Fraud check phone call over this multi-factor, multi-layer purchase Verified by Visa, as well as Samsung Pay with Bio-meterics over $0.01 and I had to talk with my issuer on the phone when I added their cards to S-Pay, was’nt instant or a simple app login verification.

Crazier still, the card I used, I’ve been using with S-pay and its been Verified by Visa for sometime, and I’ve had the same account at Newegg for almost 20 years and do shop with this card a few times a year with this card (for amount far larger). Both are supposed to be additional layers of protection for the card issuer over fraud, but my Visa card issuer flags this multi-factored purchase for a $0.01 on a $25K CL. As well I was using my phone at home, I keep GPS and high location awareness turn on with my phone. So IP, IMIE, Device ID, and other location awareness crumbs should have been fine. I notice that I occasionally get a challenge for security question or 2 factor sometime when logging in to accounts on my mobile when I outside my “home” area. I use S-Pay almost exclusively for most physical purchases even at the pump, but occasionally I run into older POS machine that have old firmware or tech and have pull out the plastic.

I know that thefraud alerts are based on computer algorithms, buts its things like this that scare me about the rise of AI, and predicted destruction of the human race by machines, beyond the science fictions shows (i.e. Terminator, Battle Star G, etc).

I read that Paypal can at any given moment be processing transaction equal to a Pentabyte of data and have to analyze for fraudulent transactions.

When the guy from the card issuer was reading off the questioned transaction and the amount, you could hear the laughter in in his voice and he was almost apologetic over the issue. Funny thing, I’ve never had a single card issuer catch the real fraudulent purchases, I’ve dealt with for example BoA 45 debit transaction with UPS in a three minute
window, an never had a single UPS transaction with any accounts related to BofA or at that time any other card issuer.

Again the S-pay and Verified by Visa/Visa Checkout partnership is not ready for Primetime kinda like Chase Pay, I guess we are the beta Tester for both.

Finally got it to post, I went to settings in S-Pay and turned off Visa Checkout then was prompted to add Visa Checkout (again). Still did’nt have have S-pay/Visa Checkout showup but clicked on Visa Checkout and in popup clicked pay method and then was given the S-Pay option. Chose CSP and used fingerprint, went through and got points and that was my 5th Chase transaction so another 2,000 point s posted.

Sometimes I wonder if the free money is worth it on an hourly basis, when its not fast and smooth

Can’t for the life of me get anything to work. Using Spay with pin. Had to create second visa checkout acct since original one had different email address from Samsung acct email address. Linked fine. SPAY works fine, using it all the time. But cannot get SPAY logo to come up for visa checkout at walmart or new egg, using chrome or Samsung browser. Each time it goes to visa login. I noticed that sometimes it shows little logo of physical credit card on left of visa checkout logo- like miniature pic of first cc in Samsung pay. But no samsung logo. So frustrating! It just won’t work! Ps each card also shows visa checkout enabled in SPAY.

I struggled for hours to get SAMSUNGpay logo appear rather than the VisaCheckout logo. (as many have reported above that this is the only way you’ll get the rewards). Finally figured it out and hope this will help someone:

1. Go to Newegg checkout page after adding your item in the cart
2. Scroll all the way down where you’ll see –Or check out with –, and there you’ll see VisaCheckout icon. If it does not have SAMSUNG on it, read on. Otherwise you are all set to click on it and proceed to checkout.
3. Click on VisaCheckout icon and it’s clear now that you’ll have the option to switch to Samsung pay as your default “Wallet”. I had to update my billing info before authorizing with my fingerprint.

After Step 3, and completing the order, I got the confirmation of 2500 points in a couple minutes.

Cheers

I tried for quite while to get this work and it was the same process as VCtoSP.
Definitely wasnt as easy as I expected. A lot of resetting passwords, attempted checkouts and switching browsers. For me, I used the samsung browser and had to update my samsung pay profile and save until I got it to work.
