[Expired] Staples: Buy $300 in Visa or Mastercard Gift Cards and get $15 *Visa* Prepaid Card [9/3-9/9]

Update: Now live. Seems like this rebate will come as a $15 prepaid Visa card, as per the rebate form (search Blackhawk) as well as a picture from the store (shown below). That’s different than what’s advertised in the circular that it’ll come as a Staples gift card.

The Offer

Direct Link

  • Buy $300 in Visa or Mastercard gift cards at a Staples store and get a $15 Staples gift card via Easy Rebate

The Fine Print

  • Valid 9/3/17 – 9/9/17 (starts Sunday, 9/3)
  • Limit one per household
  • In-store only

Our Verdict

You guys know what to do. Interesting that they made this one valid on both Visa and Mastercards, I don’t recall that happening before.

  1. Fiveoh says:

Boo staples reward card instead of visa. Thanks for the heads up tho.

  2. Anse says:

What we need to do is to avoid this type of deal. If a lot of people use this promotion, then we will rarely see $20 visa again. I only buy visa or mc gift cards if staples give $20 in visa or staples gc rewards.

  3. Joe W says:

Staple reward visa can be used toward future online visa GC purchase on staples.com, am i right?

  4. CtownBin says:

Huh, this is strange. Usually, when you buy Visas, the rebate is a Visa GC, and when you buy MC, you get a Staples GC. The fact that they combined the 2 and are giving Staples GC gives me a bad feeling they may be moving away from giving Visa GCs as rebates. Hope not!

  5. HardTacoKit says:

Is this one valid in Vermont. The one this week is NOT valid in Vermont.

  6. dave says:

C’mon OD what are you waiting on?

  7. AD says:

Can I use the Staples gift card towards an in store Visa gift card purchase?

  8. Joe says:

In the past I exclusively used the Visa deals where you received a rebate Visa GC too.
Need to get to some min spend requirements now though.

    Question:
what is the best way to liquidate the Staples GC you receive (without actually buying office products, duh)…?

    TIA

    • Lantean says:

actually the best way to liquidate Staples gift cards is buying FASER office products… mostly paper.

    • Chris says:

Can use Saveya to sell it immediately. I think you’ll get back like 12+ bucks for a $15 GC.

I haven’t used Saveya but have seen some mixed reviews. I’m sure Doc in his infinite of wisdom has a review/commentary on here

      • Tom says:

Okay, just an idea….why not buy paper at Staples with the gift card when they run a rebate deal? I think I recently only paid 25 cents for ream of paper after the rebate. I think tax has to be factored in as well but still seems to be a GREAT idea and get most of the cash back.

  9. Ron says:

I liquidate the in-store Staples gift card by donating them to the kids’ schools for the teachers to buy supplies and items for the classroom.

  10. RightNYer says:

Given that Staples matches Amazon.com prices, I don’t have a hard time using these.

  11. Albert H says:

Is this a weekly thing now? haha.

  12. LK says:

They have done this combo rebate before, usually around holidays

  13. Gerald says:

You can liquidate Staples gift cards online for 83%, so a $15 card will get you $12.45. Since the fee on two $200 cards is $13.90, you’ll get 2069 UR points for $1.45, or about 0.07 cents each.

  14. James says:

Is the rebate a Staples gift card or Staples Visa gift card? The ad and the actual rebate link are different

  15. Max says:

Ad and in store sign at my store says staples gift card, but the rebate printed out and says visa. Hurray!

  16. ppsh says:

Stacking with BOA 10% cashback which expires on 9/23 for me. Did split tender, putting $110 on BOA personal CC (only $11 back, max) and the rest on BOA Biz CC (only 3%; way over 5/24 for CSR/CSP and don’t want to burn an HP for the targeted Amex Blue Biz Plus which has a $200 statement credit after $3k spend).

  17. Information Booth says:

OK, something weird happened today. Went into Staples to buy GC’s and noticed the sign said $15 rebate, but also said it is a $20 savings. Inquired as to what that meant and nobody in store could figure it out. GM will call with answer tomorrow. Will post with answer.

  18. Chris says:

Has anyone sent in the rebate on this? Has it been linking to Staples GC or a Visa GC? Just looking for a DP. Thanks!

  19. JASON says:

Hello DOC, is the title misleading? Says VISA but clicked on the link it points out it’s the staple gift card not the VISA we know about.

    • Tom says:

Jason, read the two posts above yours and you will understand that this was advertised as a Staples GC but the rebate says it is a Visa gift card. That is why DOC said: *VISA*

  20. ppd says:

Rebate GC in the mail already.

  21. Kumar says:

Anyone in Morristown NJ area, know areas to liquidate VISA gift cards. Walmarts around me are asking for the card when I ask for money order and one stop & shop grocery store too. Appreciate if anyone can help in NJ area where to liquidate them.
