[OOS] Staples.com: Fee-Free $100 Mastercard Gift Cards, Limit 10 (Stack with Amex Offer)

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (affiliate link)

  • Staples.com is selling $100 Mastercard gift cards with no purchase fee.

The Fine Print

  • Limit 10
  • Expires 1/25/20

Our Verdict

This is a terrific offer, both for racking up valuable INK points and for maxing out the $50 Amex Offer deal that just came out. A lot of people will buy $500 on the Amex to max that out and then buy the rest on the INK Plus/Cash for 5x. I’m guessing/assuming they’ll allow two separate orders of 5.

Do these arrive activated? In the past, they would send activation codes separately and the whole thing was a huge PITA. Those might have been Blackhawk cards though and these apparently are Metas.

Blackhawk sells the metabank cards.

I’m pretty sure the merchant (in this case Staples) is the seller.

Is buying ten gift cards a “gift cards in bulk purchase”? Gift cards in bulk purchases are not allowed under Amex rules.

I have the same question, but the Amex offer is good until June, so even if it doesn’t trigger that offer, it’s probably still worth it (with the 5% back from SC+, anyway). The Amex offer can be triggered with one of their in-store deals if this doesn’t work.

Unless Staples gets even stricter about limiting VGC purchases during the no fee promos.

Very bad review for this card. I don’t know why activation is so difficult on this card.

What do people use these for? General purchases to lock in 10% off/5x or to pay credit card bills?

Arley

You can pay credit card bills with MCG or VGC? That would open a woop load of MS potential, but I doubt that is what you meant.

Electroman

It’s what he meant, and has been SOP for many of us for years. He just left out a step to avoid tipping everybody’s apple cart.

Brian C 🐕

Please…tip away. Spill a few apples for us commoners to pick up.

I know Chase u can call in and pay credit card bills with debit cards, but they don’t accept prepaid debit cards.

If you mean taking the gift cards and funneling the gift cards through something else like buying MOs or depositing it to a bluebird account (if you still can, I can’t). Then, this is not what I am referring to.

Electroman

That may be, but the “he” I’m referring to is satellite.

Tough decision. These are tougher to liquidate and a pain as well since they’re only $100. But this is partially offset by the easy order on line.
Since I can slowly liquidate these I think I’ll pull the trigger.
Thanks for the heads up. I never would have found on my own as I always type “visa 300” In the staples search field.

How do you actually liquidate this Fathiss

How do you liquidate mastercards (other than simply using it as a debit card)?
I’ve never purchased them since they can’t be liquidated at the PO anymore.

I just buy $100 Costco cash cards online, then spend in-store and Costco gas. There is no way to pay the credit card back as I know.

There are some grocery stores that accept for MOs.

you spend them at non-bonus locations

They seem to load to BB just fine.

Any issues using a shopping portal for this deal? Would it negate the Amex offer?

Celia
Celia

I’ve not encountered a shopping portal negating an Amex offer but purchasing gift cards does, most times, negate cash back from the portal.

Those reviews are ugly. Buyer beware (are aware, at least).

Activation for these was not as difficult as I imagined (compared to Sam’s Club Gift Cards in the past). The PIN mailer does come a bit later and it gets difficult to track which one is which if you have a large number of cards, but otherwise it still activates fine without major problems.

Josh
Josh

Might be valuable for some who live near a Staples that enforces the 1 per customer limit (when their physical Visa/MC gift cards have the rebate waived) but these $100 per card would be too much of a pain to liquidate for me, especially since DG is now dead for Serve MC/Visa debit reloads.

Live near a Staples? Read post. At Staples.com. Everyone lives near a .com

Hodor

I believe Josh’s point is that if your local Staples limits you to 1 VGC during the fee free promos, this deal may be an attractive alternative.

Josh
Josh

You got it! It’s refreshing to hear from someone more skilled in comprehension

Hoang Nguyen

He meant $100 value is hard to liquidate. [“live near a Staples” + ” those Staples enforce 1 per customer limit for other promo”]

Thanks Doc.. have a chase offer expiring today and can’t make it to the store. Perfect.

Ugh maybe not since it takes some time to process the order and wouldn’t charge until shipped

Stacked this with Ebates MR 2x offer. Thanks doc!

Cliftonmcdnl

I can confirm that 5 of these trigger the Amex offer credit. Got the email instantly after purchase.

So is the activation different if you buy these online vs in store?

Celia
Celia

Last time I did one of these, they sent the activation code separately (and much later). Luckily for me, I learned from others’ problems and waited for the activation code.

IS250
IS250

I’m assuming you bought it online? Do you know if it’s the same process even if you buy it in store?

Celia
Celia

Yes, I bought them online at that point, they send them unactivated. If you buy in store, they activate them normally. I don’t believe this deal was in store though.
