Our Verdict

I believe the activation issues that crop up with Mastercard gift cards from Staples are only for online purchases, so these should be fine. Use your Amex Offer for 10% off if you have that one or use your INK Plus/Cash card for 5x or another card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores. Most of us also have a Chase Offer for $30 off $100 on business cards which is valid through March 23.

As mentioned earlier, these MCGC are not requiring PIN for loading BB card. I looked at the transaction details at giftcardmall.com. The transaction remains in pending state for a day or so and then gets posted. So the transaction is more like credit than debit it seems. When I used MCGC at S&S and used PIN, the transaction is posted immediately as expected. So still puzzled by how Walmart is treating these MCGC cards bcoz the posting is not immediate.

I bought $4600 in gift cards. I had to go a few times to Staples tho. Now I am slowly loading my BB card. I just can load $400 to $600/day (I go in the AM and PM so I get different cashiers). Haters at the money center are starting to pay closer attention to me since I am making daily trips now lol.

Try not to attract their attention. Stay away from Cust Service folks. I went to a different Walmart as it was in the proximity of the area I was visiting. They asked for my card that I was using for load and after noticing it was GC, they cancelled the transaction. Went to my usual walmart and no issue.

Oh, dang, man! I’m sorry. Yes, I will decrease my daily trips. I just get a bit anxious tho with all of those cards here. I did the math tho. It will take me only over a week to load all of them if I do $400/day.

Don’t withdraw any cash. That’s a flag and they will shut down the acct if you keep withdrawing. I am not planning on withdrawing any cash. Just use it for paying anything and everything…using their bill pay service.

Do you register the card or even set your own pin on these MCGC? Or nothing? If they requested the PIN, u simply use the default PIN (last 4 digits of the card). Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I have registered some..the ones I use for online purchases. But I always reset the PIn from default for every card. I guess we won’t be at Walmart any time soon now that the deal is over. Thx

I have used Visa GC from Meta Bank online and they work just fine. I haven’t used MC GC from Meta Bank online. I will register prior to using it as I always do. But do they work just as good as Visa card for online payments? I never use the max amt on the card. I always leave a penny or more on the card. Appreciate the feedback before I use it.
Also, what is the monthly Bluebird loading limit? Daily limit? Is it calendar month or past running 30 days for the monthly limit? Thank you.

MC ? No thanks. After having been screwed over twice, not looking for a third round.

I have used 2 of them online for medical payments. So far so good. Maybe I will just load them to BB going forward and use my BB to make these payments.

they look at dollar amts and cameras. rarely get the same dollar amount. rarely cross $1k.
thats 90% of their issue. high volume of mos for the same high dollar amount.
a good thread would be about easily auto draining cards with .01 up to a couple bucks

I’ll bet Staples was a much safer place to be yesterday, usually just a few people are in the entire store. By contrast, the Safeway store I was in had lots of people all over the place, with one guy shopping in the produce department coughing and sneezing, not even covering his cough or sneezing into his elbow.

Does anyone know if Staples will be open starting Sunday 3/22/20 in NY, NJ? These states have issued executive order requesting non-essential businesses to remain close indefinitely.

I know in NJ office supply stores are considered “essential” and are allowed to stay open. That being said, I have found some individual staples stores have closed, so it is a good idea to call before going.

Thanks Jack Jones I stopped by yesterday and purchased a couple. I phoned into the system and reset my PIN. I know they are by MetaBank and they have default PIN (last 4 digits) just like Visa. I just wanted to make sure the balance was there and the PIN was set. Wanted to avoid as many issues as possible that people have reported in recent times regarding MCGC. I used them to load my BB. Interesting is that no PIN was required during the loading even though the amt was $199. In case of Visa, threshold appears to be $50 for no PIN required. Anyway, I am glad it worked out.

Thanks for the deal post doc! My CIC limits just reset.
Staples stores are mostly empty anyways and as long as you take the proper precautions ie. hand washing, not touching your face or standing too close to people, etc. you should be ok…
You have just as much chance of catching COVID-19, or any virus for that matter, at Publix or Wally World where I see people coughing all the time. But go ahead and stay home, more GC for me! And before you hate on me for going out in public, I’m a mortuary removal tech…
