Our Verdict

I believe the activation issues that crop up with Mastercard gift cards from Staples are only for online purchases, so these should be fine. Use your Amex Offer for 10% off if you have that one or use your INK Plus/Cash card for 5x or another card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores. Most of us also have a Chase Offer for $30 off $100 on business cards which is valid through March 23.

There were definitely issues with these mastercards just a few months ago. Probably best to avoid.

I’ve never had issues with in-store MCGC from Staples. Online ones were a mess.

Someone mentioned then that if you leave like a buck on the card to use elsewhere, this doesn’t happen and they always follow that rule with the Mastercards.

Can these cards be used with Bluebird to MS?

:)

Great question.

yes

Welp. Now, MS takes on a whole new level of fun! Go to the store, you might get a bad Mastercard or you might get COVID! Will you get both?

GC are great for paying medical bills, lock in 5% off.

Usually it’s easy to split bill, no extra fees, and they are never a bonus category on credit cards.

Don’t be an asshole, stay home.

This. And shame on staples for trying to lure people into being super spreaders.

Having worked in retail printing, a lot of these sales flyers are designed and printed over a month in advance, sometimes many months in advance. Couldn’t anticipate the current climate. Kind of like the sales on tissues and toilet paper. 🙂

i thought about that when i checked my mail today and it was filled with flyers for grocery stores. i sometimes go through them, but there’s no point if almost everything is out of stock anyway

Non sense, this might be my first chance of finding some at my local 2 staples..

Might well be your last MS trip too! Good luck, dumbass!

Please don’t post in-store deals. It is irresponsible to encourage people to make unnecessary trips to stores when that will raise the curve and cause suffering for vulnerable people. Please show some social responsibility and do your part to flatten the curve.

All Chuck is doing is reporting information. No one is encouraging people to make unnecessary trips to stores.

I disagree completely with this, please continue to post all deals. If Staples should be closed, their management or the government would close it. As recently laid off, I will take any & all deals that this site has to offer.

He is doing great with all these deals. Its up to the individual if you go to the store. Grocery stores yes..early in the AM. Staples..not a necessity. Tempting but no for me till this current situation passes. I usually do all the Staples offers and max out my Inks. Dont worry, they will be back soon enough when this crisis is over. Personally i put all my MS on hiatus and even mailed my last batch of MO to my various banks so not to go to ATM. (germy.) I am sitting on about 8k in VGC that will have to wait. Float very important in this biz. And no WM either till next month at least. Grocery stores are higher priced but not worth germs in WM to MS or buy food. And did not partake in the S&S VGC gas point promo that ends today. Too risky. AS of now (1:35 DST) Staples stores are still open every day with less hours.

Many people live in rural parts of the country, where are as long as you practice proper social distancing, there is nothing wrong to go into a local staples store. And except during back to school during the summer, I have never seen more than 10 people in a Staples store.

Exactly. The ‘social distancing’ seems to come naturally with Staples, since there’s not really any other customers in the stores anyway… 😀

And you’re not going to go into a supermarket or Walmart and liquidate them? Or more likely a Dollar General in your backwoods… Are those all empty too?

Safeway. Come on. I need to use up my discover this quarter.

I ended up using one of my Discover cards for about $400 in Hulu cards (10x rewards Just4U) so I could pick up the Cubs channel… that didn’t work out as I planned 🙂

I’ll be surprised if retail stores are open come Sunday in some states. We’re locking down more and more as each day passed.

Can these cards be used with Bluebird? I was able to use the visa ones a few weeks ago!

Josh

Bluebird doesn’t care about what you load it with. It’s WHERE you load it that matters.

Thank you, sir!!!!!

Should I risk my life to go buy these???

Absolutely not. Stay in your bunker for the next 18 months and don’t go out anywhere.

Retail ads are set well in advance. My husband’s stores are still putting out ad circulars in the paper, but not setting them in store (putting up the advertised price on the item), though they will honor the prices as they are in the computer system. His is an essential store as it has a pharmacy.

Because my husband’s store has a weekly “lucky number Tuesday,” his elderly father, given strict instructions to stay in his home, came out Tuesday for no other reason than to congregate with a lot of other folks around a winning numbers board in the store. The federal government must intercede. States and businesses will do their own individual things without one mandate for all, as will local municipalities – I fear soon we will see border closures closer to home as people get the message far too late after loved ones have been effected.

If you do choose to go out, may I suggest you wear a mask if you have got one, it may not prevent you from getting it, but my understanding is if you are asymptomatic you can still have and spread the disease, I heard that over 40% of Woohan positives for the virus had NO FEVER. A mask may keep you from transmitting something you don’t even know you have to others. It will definately keep you cognizant of touching mouth, nose and eyes.

Good luck to us all.

They just sent out an email they are changing business hours to close at 6PM

Torg

Staples just sent out an email stating that they’re staying open with reduced hours for the time being.
“To help support a healthy and safe environment for our associates and customers, we have put in place enhanced protocols:
Reducing hours across all US stores from 9 AM-6 PM on weekdays and will close by 6 PM on weekends
Limiting the total number of people inside our stores (following the CDC guideline of 50)
Reinforcing that associates stay home if they are sick or do not feel comfortable working – and providing job protection
Asking customers not to enter the store if they are sick; providing free delivery on all orders and no minimum order size requirement
Requiring social distancing (6-feet between every person)
Asking associates to wash their hands every 30 minutes
Actively working to restock all of our cleaning supplies.”

Is it more likely that I will walk out with at least 10 gift cards, get infected, or BOTH?
