Stockpile Allowing Credit Card Purchases With No Fees [Limits Increased]

Update 1/2/22: Annual limits reset

Update 12/19/21: Limits have been raised to $1000 daily and $2000 annually (previously $500 daily and $1,000 annually).

Stockpile has periodically offered allowing users to purchase stock gift cards with a credit card with no fees. Earlier this year they announced all fees (including credit card fees) were removed, before shutting down credit card payments. It looks like Stockpile is back to offering the ability to purchase these gift cards with no fees periodically as it’s available again. Limit is $10,000 per day $500 per day and $1,000 annually. Deal will likely end 11/29 at the latest.  For more information on stockpile read this post.

Looked to buy a Stockpile GC the other day and the interface won’t let you purchase $1000 gift cards anymore. Message pops up saying “For purchases over 200 please contact customer support.”

iirc, $200 gc was the max limit set for a long time. Were you able to buy $1000 gc before?

Yeah, I bought two $1000 ETF gifts I sent to myself at the end of last year. Was hoping to do the same this year. Just had to make the 2 orders a day apart.

Has anyone been using Stockpile recently for GC purchases? (Or other things?) Every time I try to buy a GC, I get an error that says “Unfortunately, we were unable to complete your purchase. Please try a different payment method.” (xposting)

Trying to load from a debit card but keep getting:
“$600 daily limit
You have $0 left.”
Despite not having loaded a single penny in 2023.

Have you already loaded $800 in the past 6 months? (someone in January said that was a limit, but I don’t know if it still is)

sg77 Probably 5 figures in the past 6 months. But $0 in 2023.

The app shows “$600 daily limit”. Are you able to load by debit card?

I just tried and got the same message (at least it didn’t charge my card and then refund it like it used to do sometimes). When I enter any amount and press “Get cash”, it says “$600 daily limit You have $0 left”. I haven’t tried depositing since December 2022.

Maybe we’re really hitting the new $800 in 6 months limit and the message is wrong. Or it’s just broken. It would be interesting if someone who hasn’t deposited $800 in 6 months could try it now.

sg77 Still not allowing debit card loads now that 6 months has passed since the last deposit. Anybody still able to load with a debit card?

I’m still getting the “$600 daily limit” error, even though I haven’t deposited in over 7 months. I asked Stockpile support about it but they gave useless responses (like saying that my card might reject some purchases, and I can try a checking account). I tried a couple different debit cards and none work.

A stockpile rep told me the $600 limit is a rolling 12 months limit. And yes, most do give useless responses. I’m not surprised if the company is an empty shell now given the lack of updates.

Just to add some data points:
12/23/22 – Made $400 and $600 purchases using a chase business card
12/28/22 – Made $1000 purchase using the same card
1/24/23 – Made $200 purchase using the same card. I wanted to make a larger purchase, but it said that I needed to contact customer support. I’m tempted to try another $200 purchase, but I think I will wait a day.

Are these CC purchases of gift cards? they got rid of the $200 limit per order?

Yes, credit card purchases of gift cards that I’d email to myself then load. All the limits seem to change on a whim and I might’ve caught it at a lucky time. It will be interesting to see how much I’m able to charge.

How did you make the larger purchases? Were there pre-selected amounts for them or you entered a custom value in the box? wonder if it was an end-of-the-year thing to meet their numbers

I’m pretty sure I put in custom amounts. Once the $400 went through, I think I decided to go for $600 since I knew they had a $1000 daily limit at some point within the last year.

It changes all the time. In late December it seemed to be $1000/day, and as far as I knew, there was a $2k max per year (or 6 months)?

I was able to use my debit card for $200 per day to add funds, now it doesn’t work and they say I hit their $800 per rolling six month limit for debit cards. This is 👎 I want my membership money back! Paid about $20 or something for it 😟 They charged customers a membership fee and then removed the benefits!

Does anyone know if you can use the same credit card to max out two stockpile accounts with different addresses? In other words, do a total of $4k on one card (per year) where 2 people each do their personal limit of $2k on the same card?

Just got an email stockpile is switching to a membership model. July 15st, all members will be charged $4.95/mo going forward. Offered a lifetime membership price of $19.95 for all current customer.

Might take them up on the lifetime rate, since I planned on doing another $2k no-fee credit card spend on my Amex BBP for an easy 4,000 MR earn (~$80 earned for how I redeem), which would be like “buying” 4k MR points for $19.95, which I’d be happy to do.

Yup, got that email too. My guess is they’re going to trim out the CC spend too, given how many of their customers only use the platform for the two trades per year they can do with credit card.
Edit: Looks like they’ve already limited gift purchases to $200.

I thought gc purchases with amex doens’t work anymore. Last time I tried I got “We are not accepting payment with American Express cards. Please try a different card.” Is there a workaround?
