The Offer

Direct link to offer (won’t work unless you were targeted)

  • Some Virgin America members have received an e-mail offering 10,000 Alaska Miles for activating your Alaska Mileage Plan account.

The Fine Print

  •  The 10,000 bonus miles offer is valid for active Virgin America Elevate members as of December 5, 2016 or later who received an invitation to activate a new Mileage Plan account from Alaska Airlines, and are not active Alaska Mileage Plan members.
  • Qualifying members have through December 31, 2017 to activate their Mileage Plan account and receive their bonus miles.
  • Any individual may receive the bonus a maximum of one time, even if they hold multiple separate Elevate accounts.
  • Offer is not combinable with any other Mileage Plan enrollment or account activation bonus offers.
  • Mileage Plan conditions of membership apply; visit Alaskaair.com/MemberTerms.

Our Verdict

They have offered this bonus for some time, but it was supposed to expire on January 31st and then February 28th and now extended until December 31st, 2017. Some people also got the miles automatically posted to their account. If you weren’t targeted you can get 5,000 miles for creating an account when you take your first flight.

I got this offer despite the fact that I had an existing Alaska Mileage Plan account. The problem is that the email says I have to register ANOTHER Mileage Plan account to get the miles.
Is anyone in the same situation?
BTW, I did not get 10k mile in January because I created a Virgin account after 12/5

Doc,

Not to be deceptive but could I make a new virgin account to get this bonus? I previously received it on a different account. And is there a concept of combining accounts?

I created a new account and called up customer service to merge it with my main Mileage Plan.
CSR promised to merge them within a week.

Wow…… many thanks, William. I’d forgotten all about this promotion, from earlier this year….. Dug around in our family email accounts, and sure enough, there is was/is — for two different accounts. Even better, found good chunk of unused Virgin Elevate points sitting there unused… Best of all, did some exploring on the Alaska Airlines reservation system, using miles….. and stunned to see generous reward availability, close-in, no added fees, with multiple itineraries even using (tah dah!) partner American Airlines flights…. (destination Kalispel, Montana — in peak season) Astonishing.

and wouldn’t have had a clue, save for this post here.

How does one know if they are targeted or not? I can see the page after clicking the direct offer link but probably would not be the smartest to create an account now incase they send another one of these targeted offers later. If I go through the app will it make me an Alaska Air account whether I am targeted or not?
