Deal has ended, view more HBO Max deals by clicking here.

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get a one-time $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $99.99 or more online at hbomax.com. Must register by 10/14/22 and complete spend by 10/20/22

The Fine Print

  •  Offer valid online at hbomax.com for annual subscription purchases.
  • Purchases may not qualify if not billed directly by the merchant.
  • For example, if you purchased your subscription through a third party device/digital platform, you may get billed by the party you signed up with, and not directly by the merchant.

Our Verdict

HBO Max with ads is $99.99 annually, without ads is $149.99 (ad free is currently $105). Go through a portal for additional savings.

Grabbed the Ad-free for $118 after tax – $50 credit (got the email right away) + 2,100 Swagbucks pts (~ $25).

Should be a net $43 for the year.

Card linked offer – 15% CB for Sam’s Club members, 18% CB for Sam’s Club Plus members – that should stack with SB or TCB: https://bonusoffers.samsclub.com/venues/146618/offers/545296

Not sure what network Sam’s Club uses. Are there any other HBO Max card-linked offers?

After doing some digging it looks like Sam’s Club uses Figg for the card-linked offers. If you prefer TopCashBack over Swagbucks, TopCashBack will match Tada’s offer (a Swagbucks sister company) at 110% for ~$23.10 vs the ~$25 with Swagbucks factoring their monthly discounted gift card.

$21 Cashback Offer for HBO Max at Tada: https://www.tada.com/discover-offer?id=15600
TopCashBack match: https://www.topcashback.com/help/seen-a-higher-cashback-rate-we%E2%80%99ll-match-it/

I tried to triple-dip with Swagbucks and Sam’s Cash. Swagbucks didn’t track even with the Swagbutton enabled, so I’ll try submitting a ticket after 32 days. Sam’s Cash went pending immediately, but 10 days later they emailed me saying my purchase was ineligible. In the FAQ, they say, “If you made a purchase and don’t see Sam’s Cash in your account, it may be due to one of the following reasons: You earned cash back with a competing rewards programs like airline miles or dining reward programs”

Yeah it seems like HBO is clawing back card-linked cashback if you already got cashback elsewhere.

Got the Amex Offer Congratulations email right away. The check out page does not show tax but the pending charge shows as $118.

Having an HBO sub is not the flex it used to be 10 years ago.

Just wait about an hour, put in a little effort, and you can see any almost new episode of How’s A Dragon without paying.

That applies to all shows/movies not just HBO.

I lost touch on where to download/stream TV shows/movies after the closure of warezbb. Any recommendations on where to go these days?

Curious about the parties you go to where everyone brags about what streaming services they have.

Ya, normally we complain that we have to collect them all.

Got the HBO Max ad-free yearly.
Original price $104.99.
But with tax, I got billed $117.01.
My state, WA, typically at ~10% tax. This one seems quite a bit higher than that.

For those who prefer TopCasback to Swagbucks…

TopCashback is offering $18.90 for new HBO Max subscribers who get the yearly plan without ads (NEW customers only).

$104.99 (1 year promo price, ad free) – $50 (Amex) – $18.90 (TopCashback) = $36.09 (reg price is $149.99)

Remember it’s +tax. HBO doesn’t show you the total cost with tax at “checkout”, but I figured it would be added. And sure enough in the Amex activity.

I paid for basic HBO. $9.99 for a month. Wasn’t taxed. Just $9.99. Not sure what you mean.

Some states (or cities), probably more than not, tax for streaming. I live in IL where it isn’t taxed. However, the city of Chicago and a couple suburbs do tax for streaming.

It probably isn’t OK to not show total cost with tax/shipping. Could complain to FTC or similar.
