[Expired] [Targeted] AmEx Offer: Zola, Spend $100+ & Receive $20 Statement Credit (Giftcard Purchases Cancelled)

Looks like this offer has been pulled early. Marked as expired.

Update 4/15/20: Zola is cancelling gift card purchases. I can’t even log into my account anymore.

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get a one-time $20 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $100+ in one or more transactions online at zola.com by 6/11

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid only online on zola.com. Valid only on US website. Includes purchases via merchant mobile app.
  • Excludes wedding vendors.
  • Limit of 1 statement credit per Card Member.

Referral Bonus

If you use a referral link to create your registry and complete the following steps both parties will receive a $50 credit:

  • (a) signs up for and creates a bona fide new registry on Zola.com,
  • (b) registry has a sale of $50 or more processed on Zola.com (collectively, a “qualified registry”)

The credit takes 6 to 8 weeks to process and is valid for six months (mine seems to be posting immediately). There is a limit of 15 referral credits you can earn per 12 month period. Share your referrals here.

Our Verdict

Zola sells gift cards. You can also go through a portal for additional cash back. As always appreciate if you use my referral link.

Just FYI if you ever use this company, they are a drop shipper. When you buy a product from them (overpriced), they then buy it from the manufacturer (cheaper price for them), and the manufacturer ships it to you. Zola never touches or sees the product, they are the middleman profiting off your convenience for ordering at their site.

There is a lot of room for error. I used my free store credit and my first order never shipped/never placed with the manufacturer. It took well over a month for me to get a refund and then place another order, which took an extremely long time but eventually got it.

Thought I’d give it a shot since it’s been over a month since this post.

They’re still pulling the same shady tactics- had my gift card order cancelled without notification. But they were kind enough to charge my Amex before they cancelled the order so now I have to wait on the refund.

Pulled a cat out of a hat.

Got my Amex Offer redeemed ($20), Cash Funds ($100) out, and Store Credit used (~$50 of overpriced product). Solid and very lucky moneymaker since they were locking accounts. However, they did manage to lock one of my accounts and took at least $100 Store Credit away from me. They played games, but so did I.

Also, I found out the way they were locking accounts (other than just cancelling GC orders) here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/share-your-zola-referral-links-here/#comment-964114

They were literally going (sorted by newest) down our referral thread and locking accounts.

William Charles The is an Amex offer for aaptiv.com as “Spend $14.99+, get $12 back. Up to 2 times (total of $24).” Multiple backback sites has cash back making it profitable. Example TCB is offering $18 back. Monthly subscription is starting at $14.99. https://aaptivsupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003515872-What-are-your-different-subscription-offerings-

Positive DP: I decided to do the cash fund, the funds went pending for about 4 days and just today they became available; I have initiated the transfer of the whole amount to my bank account. It does say it can take up to 10 business days to process the initial withdrawal, so they might still shut me down.

Another thing to note is that each cash contribution was made thru separate chrome incognito sessions without signing into my Zola account (find couple, make cash contribution, pay). Also, each contribution was made from different gift givers and did not include either the groom or the bride.

I’m still in the game too. I wanted to lay low until everything goes through. They have eyes on the bloggers/forums BTW, since they have reached out directly to some of them saying this deal was dead. I would advise caution.

I managed to get my cash funds out too but Zola locked my account the same day it deposited. Don’t plan on using them anyways. Got my moneymaker (and maybe more, I’ll update with a new comment thread if I’m lucky)

Nice going Zola. A week ago no one had heard of you. Today you are known as the company that cancels people’s orders, locks them out of their accounts, doesn’t communicate, and doesn’t answer the phone. And that no one wants to deal with ever again. And what’s the crime exactly? Purchasing services that you offer? Or maybe I’m wrong and there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

And if that’s what keeps them solvent, they’ll chalk it up to a lesson maybe learned. If the people just in it for $17.50+50 don’t come back, weren’t getting married in the next 5-10 years, there are no actual worthwhile customers actually lost. A guest doesn’t have to buy through them, they can buy it elsewhere and mark it as purchased.

fwiw, I’d heard of them before because a friend used it for their wedding.

Especially if it’s “used a referral” and “spent $98-102 on a gift card/cash purchase” it’s really easy to figure out who to refund.

I’m sure they don’t want to spend the time and effort on the increased support costs for complaints, but a lot of us, including me, are not going to bother over $17.50 cash + $50 funny money. It didn’t work out, I’ll move on.
