Our Verdict
The current best bonus on this card is two free nights + 5,000 points, best offer historically is two free nights + 5,000 points + $50 (Sirtheta’s spreadsheet makes this so much easier). We saw this same 40,000 targeted offer last year in October. In 2015 they also had a 50,000 point offer.
The Hyatt award chart is as follows:
If you’re staying a category 6 property or higher you’re better off with the free night offer. If you stay at a category four property or lower your better off with the points offer. Category five you break even with either offer.
The advantage of the points offer is that is also opens up the possibility of using it for points & cash stays. The award chart for that is as follows:
In previous years they have also offered 10/15% back in points in the middle of the year as well, if that was to return it would make the points offer more attractive as well. The other thing to consider is that the free nights expire after twelve months and the points do not.
I personally prefer the points offer (but would like to see it at 50,000 points) but it really depends on the type of properties you like to stay at and what your travel plans are. Hopefully I’ve given you enough information to make that decision for yourself.
As always, make sure you read these things everybody should know about Chase before applying. Because this is a targeted offer, it won’t be making our list of the best credit card bonuses.
