[Expired] [Targeted] Chase Hyatt & IHG Upgrade offers

Deal has expired, view more Chase deals by clicking here

The Offers

  • Chase has sent out upgrade offers for the IHG & Hyatt cards:
    • IHG: 5,000 points after first purchase by 3/31/19
    • Hyatt: 2,500 points aftter you spend $2,500 or more by 3/31/19

Our Verdict

Both offers are weak, especially considering the $200 being offered to Marriott cardholders that upgrade. Hyatt offer is particularly bad considering it requires $2,500 in spend as well. Also keep in mind with the IHG card if you upgrade then your free night is limited to properties costing up to 40,000 points (if you don’t upgrade and the free night posts before May 1st, 2019 then it’s unrestricted), that makes that upgrade offer even worse.

I will keep lower annual fee. For 75 dollars I can book a $300 a night room. Player 2 has the card too.

I’m at 2/24, got sapphire in May 2017 (now closed) SW Business in July 2017 (now closed) and currently have Freedom and All 3 Chase Ink Business cards. Closed United Business card in Dec 2018.

Experts, any suggestions of which one to go for, NOW/Next??

is there any chance Chase will discontinue the old IHG card and auto convert holders to the new IHG card?

Im curious from old timers about this as well, but even if there’s a risk I’d hold onto it. It seems to me cc issuers are fairly generous when they force change on something like this, I expect way more than 5k points

Hyatt offer is a joke… spend $2500 and get at least 2500 points minimum without increased af.

I upgraded my Hyatt a few months back and just received the IHG offer. After reading the terms about losing the anywhere free night(Kimpton!) that I only have one shot at because of when I applied for the card, I laughed and deleted the email.

I got the Hyatt card offer, and I am interested in the upgrade for the $15,000 spend free night cert and the elite night credits. But my old Hyatt card anniversary date is coming up in June, and I’m looking forward to getting the free night cert then. Are there any DPs on whether upgrading resets the anniversary date? Or would I still get my anniversary night cert in June?

No DP, but the annual fees have been prorated, so I would assume it would not reset anniversary date.

Is the IHG 100k offer available anymore or anyway to get it by calling?

I opened my IHG card on 4/23/2017, so I won’t upgrade. If there were 50000 upgrade offer, then I would upgrade.

The only way I see the IHG offer works is if you need the TSA Global Entry and dont have any other card for that and dont want to open a new card.
and you used your free anniversary night and all of that.

But if you upgraded, you’d be paying $160 additional in annual fees over the next 4 years for a benefit that only costs $100. Only worth it if you intend to cancel after one or two years after upgrade.
