In regular mail, I received the offer for 5x off of consumer electronic stores, dept stores, game stores. Do any of these participating places sell $500 Visa/MC GCs these days? What about Best Buy? Thanks.

Yep, got the offer for 5X back online spending on my Citi Thank You Premier. Was good for all of January. Usually get this type of offer every year or so from Citi.

Citibank is a scam. Several of my friends and I got similar offer during Thanksgiving last year “5% back for online purchase up to $500”. None of us got full promised amount $25 for our $500 spend. I got something like $9 and my friend got less. Contacted customer service they said they said they need to open a case to give me the remaining amount back, but one month has past I still got nothing more

Most likely the places you spent were not included in the categories. There are a lot of exclusions with these type of offers. Citi is no more of a “scam” then any other Bank.

Electronics/games stores didn’t include Newegg.

This is $625 spend. It’s max 2500 points and EXTRA 4 points per dollar = $625.

There does not seem to be much of a pattern. I get the offers sporadically on my Rewards+ but it has no correlation with months where I used the card (relatively) heavily or months where I used it almost not at all.

Thanks, DoC for the alert. With your tip on the subject line, found it — with some apparent variation, as my offer aimed broadly at online purchases, not confined to particular categories. (Reminds me I also had this deal last month, curiously)

New offer text: “Use your card (in my case Citi Diamond Preferred) to earn 5% back as a statement credit, up to $25, through 03/31/2021 on purchases¹ you make online:

Here are a few examples of some online purchases:
Purchases made at your favorite retailer’s website
Online drugstore orders (including prescription orders made online)
Online grocery orders
Travel and more!

Find Joy Where You Least Expect It.”

I got this on my ThankYou Preferred (former Citi Forward), but my subject line is “Get More of What You Want. Get More Joy” and it’s for all online purchases including groceries but excluding “restaurants, live entertainment, cable and popular streaming purchases”
