[Targeted] US Bank/Fidelity Credit Card Spend Offers

Update: Similar offers being sent out on other US Bank cards as well. Hat tip bc1280

The Offer

The Fidelity credit card sent out spend offers, I think this one via snailmail:

  • Spend a certain amount and get bonus rewards on purchases beyond that amount.

The offer varies by the person. As an example: after you spend $850 you’ll get 20% bonus rewards (2.4% per dollar), up to $20 in total bonus rewards.

The Fine Print

  • Spend between March 1 – April 30

Our Verdict

I think they are trying pushing up your spend, so whatever they expect you to spend, they’ll give you a bonus for spend above that. Given the card already earns 2%, and some people use it anyway, this offer might be useful to some people.

Every time I get one of these, they up the threshold the next time. They’re the stupidest bonuses now that will amount to like spending $5k+ to get a $20 bonus

The email I received said $1350 is my required spending.

Does this mean that if I spend $1500, I get 20% bonus on the entire $1500 or just on the $150 = $1500 – $1350.

Just the $150.

“Once you spend a net of $1,050 during the promotion period, additional net purchases (net purchases are purchases minus credits and returns) will be awarded an extra 0.20% cash back per dollar spent (up to a maximum of $20).”

I have been Fidelity Credit Card for 6 years and I have never received one targeted offer. Anything wrong?

Hard for us to know, we can only speculate. Have you opted out of marketing maybe?

Got the same as you on the Fidelity card and just now received a similar offer from US Bank on my Cash+ card, spend $350 and get a 20% bonus during the same time period.

Makes the 5% categories 5.2%, a pretty good offer.

I received spending $5100 to get an additional 20% bonus. I don’t understand how they give the number $5100.

Got mine by way of email, 20% bonus on $950 spend.

Mine is this:

Just use your card during the two-month promotion period from March 1 through April 30, 2020. Once you spend $2,800, you will earn 20% Bonus Points on purchases (up to 2,000 Bonus Points) redeemable for cash back² into an eligible Fidelity account!³ Be sure to enroll in the offer by March 31, 2020.¹

Could someone maybe translate this for me? I’m going to enroll, but not sure how I maximize / go out of my way with a relative high $2,800 compared to the other in the comments.

Is it:

Spend $2800 = 2% $56
Spent $100 = 20% $20

???

EDUARDO BAEZ
EDUARDO BAEZ

Bryan,

After you spent $2,800, you will get 2.4 points per dollar spent instead of the regular 2 points.

So, the $100 in purchases over your $2,800 threshold will earn 240 points instead of the regular 200 points. In other other words, you will get 40 points more for every $100 you spent over your $2,800 threshold.

Therefore, to get the maximum 2,000 bonus points ($20 value), you will need to spend $5,000 over your $2,800 threshold for a total of $7,800 in purchases between March and April.

Spent $2,800 = 2% $56
Spent $5,000 = 2.40% $120 ($100 regular and $20 bonus)

Hope it helps,

Eduardo.

Now that we know the bonus is on the amount above the limit they set for us,
the equation to be solved for you is

0.004 x $N = $20
$N = $20 / 0.004 = $5000

That’s a lot of spend !

Thanks all!

Yeah, that doesn’t seem worth it, at least as far as going out of the way to use the card

I received spend $50 and then you can receive up to 2,000 bonus points (= spend of $5,000.00).

I don’t use the card all that much.

With Citi DC -> TY Pts conversion option promos that give less than 2.5% back don’t make a whole lot of sense unless you never travel.

Citi travel portal has a lot of limits so the DC & Premier card combo are not as valuable as one might think. Esp for hotels.

I got a similar offer in the mail today for a People’s United Bank AMEX card that is also issued by FIA. Also got a mailed offer for a US Bank FlexPoints card and 2 emails with the same offer for my Cash+ cards. The People’s and FlexPoints cards both require a $50 purchase. Cash+ both require $1050. I’ll pass.

I had forgotten that FIA was now owned by US Bank until I noticed that the format of the letters were identical.

I’ve been spending a little over $2k each month and the offer they sent me is to spend over $2200 and anything above that will earn .20 bonus points per dollar up to 2000 bonus points. I received this by email.

I actually got this US Bank by email instead of snail mail. Spend $400, earn additional 20%, up to 2000 in points (=$20).

2.4% is not worth putting this in my wallet.
