The Club Lounges To Add New Child Restriction (Must Be Under 2 Instead Of 12 For Complimentary Entry)

Earlier we posted that The Club lounges will be adding a new rule on September 1st stating access will only be permitted when it’s within 3 hours of departure. It looks like they have added another restriction and only children under the age of 2 will be permitted complimentary entry. Currently all children accompanying an adult under the age of 12 are given complimentary access.

Interestingly the new restriction must have been recently added, as it wasn’t there when we first reported about the departure change.

Glad I found out about this, guess I will use my PP from Credit card to get me and my spouse in and then use another Card with 10 yearly visits to get my two kids in.

Are families really causing that much of an issue or is it simply a business decision that is inevitable regardless of how good business is going?

Probably both. Airport lounges are all struggling with the fact that they were originally designed to serve business travelers and wealthy people, and the credit card industry is driving them to serve families.

Priority Passes are a dime a dozen. If two parents using their two Priority Passes visit a Club Lounge then they can bring two of their children for free. Single parents can only bring one for free.

Another alternative would be for parents to add their children as authorized users on cards with Priority Pass that don’t charge for AUs, like the Ritz or Amex Morgan Stanley Platinum.

So families of 4 can’t visit a lounge on one Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass for free?

I was never very good at math in school, but that’s what I come up with.

If you want a second one, you can use PP from another card or an AU card for $75 or whatever it is.

Oh, I don’t have kids. Just thought this was aimed at reducing number of families entering lounges with one Sapphire Reserve.

Based on real-life experience at a few different club lounges, they aren’t referring to bringing your kids as guests on the actual priority pass. You “should” still be able to do that.

Historically, in my hands-on experience entering the club with my wife and two girls, my girls were not even accounted for as “guests” for the purposes of the priority pass.

i.e. They would allow the 4 of us, but I would only sign for my wife and I.

Going forward, I read this as now I would simply need to sign for all 4 of us.. Which doesn’t make a difference since my guests are all free with my flavor of PP.

William Charles Why is that? Like I said, I am only going from my actual experience taking kids into the club lounges. The reality is that if I had 3 adults accompanying me, I would sign for the 4 of us and we would enter. Why would that be different with 1 adult and two children if I am signing for all four?

The gate agent doesn’t know if my PP is charged access or free access, and doesn’t really care.

To refuse who you are able to actually PAY per visit for because they are children is a PR nightmare.

This is why I think it is as simple a change as signing for all 4 people. The people with pay per use passes will now pay a fee per child, vs having them enter unaccounted for.
