- Complete 10 debit card transactions
The other accounts are more difficult to keep fee free. There is an early account termination fee of $20 if the account is closed within 180 days of account opening.
Our Verdict
Little bit of a pain to avoid the monthly fee but otherwise this is a pretty good bonus, major downside is that it has to be opened in branch and only one branch is participating. If anybody has any datapoints, then please share them in the comments below. We haven’t added this to our list of the best bank account bonuses due to the fact we don’t know enough about it.

DOC, here is an update for you: Allowed to fund with credit card, up to $500. Approved on 12/31/17.
Hard/soft pull?
DOC:
1. Softpull confirmed
2. $200 bonus posted the same day the $250+ direct deposit (DD) posted, BUT the bonus was a MANUAL entry by the actual bank teller I met in person, so they manually check for a REAL DD.
(I DID open the account online, but branch is local, so did stop by one time)
When I did a “push” ACH from TopCash back to test if they do automated bonus postings, the centralized call center referred me to the local branch that politely informed me that “customer-initiated” ACHs will NOT count as a DD, must be payroll type.
Moral of story: most small banks / CUs post MANUAL bonuses, after “eyes-on” and only real DD will work.
3. Chexsystems: unknown
Thanks, Doc!
Great info, thanks Jason!
If you decline overdraft protection, it is a soft pull through ChexSystems.
If you accept overdraft protection, I don’t know if hard/soft pull.
