Our Verdict

Considering this bonus doesn’t have any requires and it’s fee free and you can fund up to $1,000 with a credit card, this is a very good offer. Especially if you don’t particular like the hassles of bank bonuses. I just wish it was open to more states, I’ve added it to our best bank bonus page.

I attempted to open an account with Pinnacle Bank as a resident of Missouri I had problems with questions that wanted me to think back 20 to 30 years. Called customer service and told to go a branch, which is about 300 miles each way. I did make a call to HQ and got hold of someone in Human Resources. My last act was to file a complaint with MO Division of Finance and have not received any help so far.

Just put in this app (pending approval) but they did accept credit card as a funding method. Hasn’t posted yet, so no data on whether it codes as a purchase or advance, but I’ll try to remember to come back later with that.

I received a response from Pinnacle Bank today. See below –

Hi Customer Service,
Will opening a checking account result in a soft or hard credit pull?

Pinnacle Bank’s reply:
“Information is pulled from public records, so neither a hard or soft pull is done.”

I was also informed that they just pull info from public records – no credit pulls.

You can fund with a credit card. It came up as an option when I opened it to fund with “credit/debit”. For sure Visa & Mastercard were available but I don’t remember if Amex was or not. Regardless, I put in a Chase Visa for $2k. My account was approved a day and a half later (yesterday), and my $2k purchase from “Pinnacle Bank” is now pending on my Chase card. But none of my cash advance limit has gone away so I’m thinking it’s a purchase as are must Chase cards for funding accounts.

There was no funding limit stated on the account opening information…. I only had $3k available credit on the card though or I might’ve tried pushing more. Curious to see how much other people put through!

Thank you, David!

FYI – $2k on Chase United Visa has now posted as a purchase and says it earned 2k miles… Obviously there has to be a tipping point, but one could definitely derive that you could make a larger deposit via credit card. DOC – update that you can fund via Chase Visa at the minimum.

Thank you again!

Visa and Mastercard the only two funding options available. I funded $3k using my Chase Ritz Carlton card and it has posted as a purchase. Earned 3k points.

Max cc funding is $5k. Applied 1/4/15 and tried to fund with a higher amount, but the form errored out with a message that the “initial deposit must be less than or equal to $5000”.

Chase Ink visa (no immediate charge), application pending review.

The main bank bonus page has this bank listed as a state-specific bank offer for WAshington state. WA state residents aren’t eligible though. Just an FYI, so you can fix the wording on the main page.

Following up on my experience: funded with Ch@se !nk for $5k, max allowed (see my previous post), transaction posted as sale with UR credited. No noticeable hold placed on the deposit, in and out in less than a week. Waiting for 90 day mark for bonus to post.

You have it noted in the eligibility details, but it bears repeating that a checking acct bonus for Pinnacle is only ‘churnable’ every 4 years (should any bonus be offered after this one expires). That being said, I like the web interface and communication so far. With truly no fee/no effort checking being somewhat rare, I may keep and actually use this account.

Funded 4990 with Chase card. Posted as purchase. Thank prior data points!

Posted as a purchase for my Capital One Spark Card! Anyone have any success with Barclays?

Data point.

Opened account: 2/20. Funded with $5000 from INK card.

$100 bonus posted: 5/29.

Couldn’t be easier.

I did this about 3 months ago $5k funding with BoA travel rewards. No cash advance and points posted. Still have not received the bonus from the bank yet.

It’s a full 3 months + a few days; it will post. If for some reason it doesn’t in a couple more weeks, just call them. Pinnacle is a small outfit, but they have been very helpful and professional over the phone.

Funded with Barclay choice plus card – 5k, posted as purchase and shows points earned.

Data Point: Opened account and funded $5K with Barclays Arrival +. Posted as a purchase earning points.

Also funded with Barclays Arrival + for $5k and it counted as a purchase earning points. Had the cash advance limit set to $1 just to be sure.

Anyone have datapoint on how citi codes funding an account here? I’m aware that citi generally treats these as cash advances but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure with this institution.

Used Citi double cash to fund checking with $5k, and Citi premier to fund savings with $5k. Both transactions posted as purchases

This offer appears to be extended to September 15th
