Early Account Termination Fee
Bonus is forfeit if the account is closed within 180 days of account opening
Our Verdict
Keep this account fee free is basically impossible, but you do get the first two months fee free. You need to keep account open for 180 days so expect to pay 4-5 months of fees ($40-$50 but can be reduced somewhat). Unfortunately it’s also a hard pull and we don’t have data points on what works as a direct deposit. Might be worth it for the $300 and $500 tiers but too much hassle for the $100 tier.

In addition to the bonus being forfeited if you close withing 180 days of account opening (which they enforce), there is also an early account closure fee of $25 if close within the first year and a $5 check printing fee (both of which they also enforce).
Can confirm this is true as I went to close my account. Ridiculous – but at least the bonus still worth it.
Looks like this is dead
P2 opened account 12-13-24. Used wise and novo to deposit $10k total. $500 bonus posted 03-17-25. So it seems both wise and novo work for DD. Now on to try application again as I was denied the first time.
Looked at application, another membership criteria is being a current, past, or incoming student at University of Texas at Arlington.
P1 approved at 0/1, 0/3, 2/6, 10/12, 23/24, 39/36 after emailing back and forth to unfreeze Chex, submit additional address documentation, and explain that the 10 and 39 inquiries were a result of chasing favorable interest rates.
P2 approved at 0/1, 1/3, 1/6, 5/12, 15/24 after submitting additional address documentation. Added P1’s email address to the application for a $25 referral bonus for P1.
In footprint. No hard pull. They don’t pull Chex until they are ready to evaluate your application, which could be a couple of days after you apply.
Thank you for the useful DP.
Do you reside in one of the counties that they service in TX?
I knoe you said in footprint, I just wanted to confirm if it was relatively close to a branch, or just in TX.
you can email me at honsh2626 at gmail.
Applied. No instant approval.
A New Account Representative will contact you within (2) business days to finalize the details of your request.
I see the Power checking has the same bonus but fees can be waived. It also has a 3.9% apr with some debit transactions. I might try that after I confirm if the terms are really the same or misprint.
The Power checking promo expired Dec 31, 2024; unless you have another link that says differently. It got me excited for a bit too, thinking I could double dip on both accounts.
You’re right. Does show 2024. Bummer.
Cant waive the fee!! has ETF!! They seem pretty strict. Pass
Still hard pull?
Try it and let us know!
One could easily find that out by freezing the 3 bureaus and apply.
