The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • United is offering a 30% bonus when you transfer hotel points, up to a maximum of 25,000 miles

The Fine Print

  • Valid until November 30th, 2019
  • Maximum of 25,000 bonus miles

Our Verdict

The only partner that’s only really worth considering is Marriott, as the other partners have very poor transfer bonuses. With Marriott the normal transfer rate is 3 Marriott points = 1.1 United mile. You also get a 5,000 bonus when you transfer 60,000 points over. After this bonus you could transfer 60,000 Marriott points and receive 35,750 United miles. Etihad is also offering a 20% bonus.

Posting of Promotional Miles:

At the conclusion of the promotion, all miles earned by each member from Qualifying Activity will be multiplied by 30% to determine the eligible bonus up to a maximum of 25,000 Bonus Miles. Bonus Miles will be credited into the member’s account on or before January 30, 2020. The maximum bonus miles that can be earned by a member under this promotion is 25,000. MileagePlus will not be responsible for technical problems with partner miles postings, or failures or delays in miles postings by hotel partners, that would render any points to miles converted as ineligible under this promotion.

There is also a deal on Radisson to United point transfers, getting a 50% bonus stacked with a 30% bonus. The effective conversion rate becomes 10k Radisson points to 1,950 United miles (up from 1,000 normally). If you value Radisson points at $30 per 10k that’s like buying United Miles at 1.5c each, comparable to LifeMiles.
I’m tempted to do it, mainly because I have 1k status which makes United miles more flexible to use and can’t see any Radisson stays in my future.

With the current promotion on Amex transferring MR to Marriott, you would have a ratio of around 1.3 MR to 1 United mile when transferring 47000 MR (needed are 46154, so maybe transfer 46k MR and get the remaining 200 M point to 60k in another way.

Not worth it IMHO

If you combine this sale with the current Marriott 30% sale, you can buy United miles @ 1.46 cents. Although, United is going to devaluate comes next month…Oooch!

Good point. But that is only slightly less than buying an economy ticket. Although some destinations currently is better to not redeem points for as they are cheap to buy.
Business class redemption could be an option but then buying so money points is a big gamble.

Personally I would take the United points. I value marriott at 0.5cpp and United at 1.5. The united dynamic pricing has worked in my favour. often can find award flights domestic for 7.5k miles on tuesdays or wednesdays.

Na, Marriott point is worth about 0.75 cpps. Or it is from 0.5 to 0.9 cpps from various sources. So the credit card 35,000 free night is worth up to $250/night. That is about right.

This is pretty awesome, I have a pile of Marriott points to burn and was looking at a trip to Istanbul next Spring.

How do you get to 60,000 points -> 35,750 miles? At Marriott site, it shows 60,000 -> 22,000 miles. If you add the 30% bonus, still can’t get up to 35,750.

You get a 5k mile bonus for every 60k points you transfer.

But does the 10% and 30% stack onto all bonus? I get:

60,000 -> 20,000 + 5,000 + 2,500 (10%) + 8,250 (30%) = 35,750. The most.

I agree, the 60,000 point transfer earns 20,000 united points. Marriott adds 5,000 automatically to the transfer making the total transferred 25,000 points. An extra 30% bonus would be 7,500 points making the total 32,750.

You are forgetting the special arrangement for United transfers… 10% extra.

But again, does the 10% and 30% stack up?? Probably not.

The 10% extra for United transfers is only for Titanium Elite and better though, right? I don’t think 60,000 -> 35,750 is possible for Platinum Elite Marriott.
