The Offer
- United are offering a 30% transfer bonus when you convert hotel points to United miles.
Our Verdict
Only transfer worth considering is Marriott. If you transfer 60,000 Marriott points you get 20,000 United miles + 10,000 bonus miles plus the 30% transfer bonus. That means you can convert 60,000 Marriott points into 39,000 United miles.
Hat tip to Award Wallet
I’m tired and a little confused on this promo but it appears the miles have posted with a backdated date and they calculated the 30% based on the non-bonus amount.
I Transferred 180k Marriott to United on 10/3/23. 90k United immediately showed up (3:1 transfer + 10k bonus for every 60k transferred).
Today (1/1/24) I checked and saw another 18k posted with a back date of 11/27/23. Labeled “points to miles bonus”.
18k is 30% of 60k. 60k is the 3:1 transfer amount that came from the 180k Marriott I sent to United, excluding the 10k bonus for every 60k transferred.
So in my case I sent 180k Marriott to United and in total got 108k, which in total is a 1.67 to 1 ratio.
It looks the bonus miles are posting. BUT, instead of the 9k miles I was expecting, I only got 6k miles on 11/26. Anyone else?

This is bad – the t&c on the promotion made all of us thinking we would get 30% bonus. We should all complain on this and hopefully they can rectify this
Moved Marriott points to United on 10/03. Bonus miles haven’t been deposited yet. Customer service said bonus miles will be credited by Jan 31, 2024
I transferred 60k marriots on 10/1, I got 10000 + 20000 UA miles on 10/2.
So far, no extra 30% bonus seen yet.
Any Updates on if all the bonus points posted with the transfer
Why only Marriott worth considering? Are Hilton points a better deal for hotel booking compared to Marriott?
Because only Marriott offers the bonus and good transfer rate.
Choice is also worth transferring – see my message below. I’m still waiting on United to post the bonus, but from previous experience I am quite sure the offers stack. I value Choice points at 0.5¢, so if the offers stack, then I am getting United miles for just over 0.96¢. If they don’t stack, I’m paying 1.2¢ – still quite reasonable.
Correction – 1.25¢, not 1.2¢
“Choice hotels Now through October 15, get 2,000 miles when you transfer 5,000 Choice Privileges points to United MileagePlus miles—that’s double the standard exchange rate!”
I just did a transfer. Will update if the offers stack
What’d be the best way to utilize this promotion? Transfer 180k Marriott points to get 90k+bonus 25k = 115k total UA miles?
Its really up to you on how much you value UA miles? If you transfer 180K marriott points you would be maximizing the promotion but the question is, do you want to. Its a 1 way street so you can’t go back if you don’t like it.
Will I see the bonus miles during the transaction of converting?
I register from united side, but when transfer 60000 marriot pts to UA, still see only 20000 miles before I submit.
No. When starting the conversion on the Marriott site, it will not show this bonus amount. You’ll see them in the United account only and it may take time: “At the conclusion of the promotion, all miles earned by each member from Qualifying Activity will be multiplied by 30% to determine the eligible bonus up to a maximum of 25,000 bonus miles. Bonus miles will be credited into the member’s account on or before January 31, 2024. The maximum bonus miles that can be earned by a member under this promotion is 25,000. “
Thanks.
United has increased the number of points necessary for award travel but at the same time their cash prices are insane. So you do get value from using United points. It now takes 88K for an International one-way lie flat seat. Try and find a Polaris seat for under $1,350 (at 1.5 cents). You can’t. More likely you are paying $4k+, which now makes those points worth closer to 5 cents per mile. I won’t fly anything but Polaris with United points.
I agree. For any partner business class flight it is minimum like 110K points for 1 way. I don’t see many United metal business class offerings which would be at around the 82.5K points on saver award for 1 way which is reasonable. I think there are other partners that provide some better value.
