Wells Fargo Systems & Services Restored

Last Thursday Wells Fargo begun suffering a major outage due to “smoke” at a server farm. Backup and redundancy systems also seemed to have failed leaving customers unable to access critical systems such as ATM, mobile and online banking. Wells Fargo is now stating that most systems are running again (three days after the initial outage) although to still expect intermittent outages.

Wells Fargo has previously indicated that any and all Wells Fargo fees that were a result of this outage will be waived automatically. If you’re a Wells Fargo customer I’d be double checking to make sure this is actually the case. Unfortunately this won’t help people that incurred fees outside of Wells Fargo due to this outage. In cases like this (e.g if you were unable to pay a non Wells Fargo credit card due to online banking not working) I would be contacting Wells Fargo and asking them to cover these fees as it’s clear Wells Fargo is at fault and had inadequate back up systems and processes implemented to avoid this type of outage.

Unconfirmed rumor circulating that they are offering $200 one time credit to those that go into a bank and express hardship concerns, in and above the actual nature of the hardship for virtually any reason stated. Bank managers are also being given a huge amount of discretion in dealing with real issues.

Went today. No $200 given. Just an apology.

Made a Chase CC payment on 2/7 (Thursday) with a pull from Wells Fargo. On Chases’s end it shows completed 2/8, Friday, yet on Wells Fargo side it doesn’t show debiting the account. Think I have anything to worry about with Chase getting their money? Still isn’t showing on my Wells Fargo account as if this morning, 2/11

Anyone having difficulty with BoA? My partner and I are both getting this: “We’re sorry, but we are temporarily unable to show credit card account information. Please try again later.” We can log in, and I can see my bank account info, but no CCs.

It happens when BofA does maintenance over the weekends. It’s not good that BofA doesn’t put a under construction page or message. You will be able to access by morning ET.

And their system still can’t recognize my physical/home address as a valid address.

Rumor has it this was a deliberate outtage so that they could maintain some kind of internal goal.

What on earth are you talking about? Come up with some reasonable speculation on this and i’d Think about it.

Why would anyone do business with them?

The only reason I can think of is to get a bonus, that’s why I have an account, for now anyway.

To save time. If you want ten accounts you just open one and then they open 9 more without telling you. And voila you have 10 accounts for minimal effort.

They pay me to gobble up MOs. Why wouldn’t I do business with them?

Meh. They are close to me and I’m lazy.

Also I see them as the same as BOA/JPM. Just like the service from AA/United/Delta is comparable.

They have a nice pair of credit cards (Propel and Visa Signature) that are a bit like CSR minus the annual fee. They sometimes have lucrative offers, e.g. 40X points at various stores, equivalent to a 60% discount if you use the points for travel. And I made $500 in checking account bonuses last year.

I use them since I get free trades in their brokerage account (though that’s no longer available to new accounts), and ATM fee reimbursements, and they have convenient branch locations in my area. Their brokerage account isn’t great, but it’s actually better than Chase You Invest. It’s similar to BofA’s Merrill Edge + Preferred Rewards, though without any special CC rewards benefits. I guess for new accounts there isn’t really a reason to use Wells Fargo, but I don’t have a big reason to leave them either.
