What to do with that $50 Saks Credit from Amex [Repost]

Update 12/30/18: Not much time to use your credit up for 2018, do this now if you haven’t already.

A lot of people are trying to figure out how to use up the new $50 Saks credit from American Express. We’ll do a quick recap of options here in this post.

As a reminder, American Express added a new benefit to the American Express Personal Platinum card offering a $50 credit towards Saks Fifth Avenue purchases. You receive a $50 credit on purchases made from January 1st until June 30th and another $50 credit for purchases made from July 1st until December 31st, 2018.

You need to enroll first at this link. You’ll see ‘Enrolled’ if already enrolled.

A few options (some affiliate links below):

Let us know what you’ll be buying in the comments or if you have a good idea. Only a month left for this credit, and worth doing it a few days early to ensure it credits in 2018. I’d recommend reviewing all the details about this Saks $50 credit in this dedicated post.

Remember to use a shopping portal for your online purchases. Also, there’s an Amex Offer to get 2x Membership Rewards points; worth adding that before shopping as well. You can use Shoprunner to get free two-day shipping.

That’s exactly what I do, too: Aesop products that I already buy on a regular basis!

We love Aesop and buy it anyway so that’s exactly what I use my credit on!

Will probably buy the GC and resell at ~17% off retail (including commission).

I got the credit right when it launched without making a purchase (I think some other people did too). Wondering if an actual Saks purchase would trigger another credit. Anyone have any experience on this?

it didnt count to the $50. had same thing spent $50 after no issue

I think they were counting some early purchases as the Jan-June credit due to a glitch. Credit should work again.

Wife buys Clinique and their pricing at Saks was in line with other stores plus they were having a bonus period. She was happy and the $9 cash back on the $60 purchase made it almost free.

Don’t get the Paul Smith underwear: uncomfortable!
That’s where my $50 went: three pairs for $50 and you get baked nuts.

I bought some very nice gloves and some discounted unmentionables for the Fiancee. Used the spend $150 get a $75 gift card promo.

I just got the gloves (Saks Brand) and WOW. Well worth what I paid. I’ll spend the $75 on the Fiancee, and the Jan $50 on me.

They had mens shoes (Asics and New Balance) discounted to $49 at one point. This is a pretty great benefit!

Mind sharing the link to which specific gloves you bought? I’m in the market for a new pair

I bought clothes for my son. Mostly jammies and tops “on sale”. I estimated that each $50 credit was equalivant to about $15 I’d be willing to pay in cash. Better than nothing.

I bought a saks branded dress shirt on clearance. Big mistake. There was a reason they were on clearance. The buttons are too far apart so you get odd gaps where you can see right in…à

Saks GC can be used in Saks off 5th online, and there is no limit about how many GC could be used.

Used mine to buy my stepdaughter two Lilly Pulitzer dresses. They were marked down to $29 each which is already a bargain, but after the credit I paid like $10 total. Can’t beat that.
