The Offer

  • Wyndham Rewards is offering a 40% bonus on purchased points, in addition you can now purchase up to 45,000 points annually (previous limit was 10,000 points). The 45,000 limit is on the points per bonus, with the bonus the maximum is 63,000.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until May 11th, 2020

Our Verdict

Points normally cost $13 per 1,000 points (1.3¢ per point). Under this promotion it becomes $13 per 1,400 points (0.9285¢ per point). You can go through a portal to reduce the cost even further (2.5% back is the best rate I think). Remember that properties either cost 7,500, 15,000 or 30,000 points per night now. I personally don’t ever think it’s a good idea to speculatively purchase points but given the market conditions now would be an even worse time. I’m also not sure if Wyndham traditionally offers any sort of discount either. I guess it could make sense if you have a particular redemption in mind as Wyndham has already done it’s yearly category change but who knows when travel will return to normal.

Wyndham points were ok when all of their properties including All inclusive Viva Wyndhams were 15K a night. Now they’re about equal to Choice hotels.

Better off buying Wyndham stock and paying cash for the hotel

One alternative need for these points is transfer to Caesars. People who match Caesars Wyndham diamond can’t get into the lounge without using $10 in points. This way you can ‘buy’ your way into the lounge.

Of course you have to measure how much value you’ll get out of the $10 you spend to get in so YMMV.

adding to that. caesars reward points can be used for food at their outlets so essentially you are paying .9285 for 1.0 in caesars reward points. good if you are planning to go to one of their properties

You’re probably actually getting a better deal than that because when paying for your bill with points you aren’t charged sales tax.

Piggy backing this. It cost 1,000 points to get into the Laurel Lounge at Caesars. This includes free drinks and light food. Two drinks in, and you’re already ahead. I believe 4:30-6:00 they have hot food. I like to head into one of these lounges during the start of prime time college football games when I’m in Vegas in the fall. A good way to eat, drink, watch your bets, and be out by halftime and able to enjoy the ending of the games from some sports book.

I thought you also needed 15,000 tier points?

This is what I use to get into the Diamond Lounges in Atlantic City. Nothing beats paying ~$10 for unlimited drinks, a great hot buffet that is better than anything in town open to the public (aside from Borgata Buffet), and a break from losing my ass off. I still have $100 worth from last year, but this is extremely tempting
