[YMMV] American Express 30% Off When You Pay With Points For Domestic/International Flights

The Offer

  • American Express are targeting some cardholders to receive a 30% rebate when they use Amextravel.com to book international or domestic flights (some offers are for domestic only and some are for international only). You’ll receive a pop up when searching for flights on Amextravel.com if you’re targeted (see below)

targeted amex offer

The Fine Print

  • Valid until April 30th
  • Minimum of 5,000 points required
  • Must be targeted for this promotion

Our Verdict

American Express Business Platinum & Centurion cardholders get a 30% rebate (although you can only choose one airline to receive this rebate with), this is slightly better on this deal as you get the points as a rebate rather than a discount (meaning you can get a rebate on your rebate). This looks like American Express are testing this on other card’s as well. When using pay with points, you get 1¢ per point in value. This would mean you’d be getting an extra 30% in value.

Just remember that American Express also has a lot of airline transfer partners and you might be better offer transferring to an airline and booking an award flight instead of using pay with points.

I have the PRG card. My offer says 2X MR points on AMEX Travel.
Does that mean if I purchase air travel I would receive 5X (3X from card + 2X from offer)?

I got “Save 50% On Points For First & Business Using Membership Rewards® Points”. How to maximize it? I have 160K MR points. Thanks!

Question for you gente:

If I open am Amex savings account with substantial, and I mean substantial, balance would that make it easier to get their business or personal cards with higher sign up bonuses or it doesn’t matter?
