The Offer

No direct link to offer, sent out via e-mail. Subject line is  unknown

  • Citi Sears is offering some cardholders 10% back on utilities. Must spend at least $400 and maximum statement credit of $50 per month. Runs from November – January

Our Verdict

This stacks with other Citi Sears spending bonuses which makes this deal even better:

Hopefully some cardholders have better categories than utilities.

Got another one. Requirements are pretty high, $70 back on $2000 spend in any category from 11/17 to 12/16.

Is it still possible to get this card and does the card earn thank you points? I looked on sears website and it’s not clear that thankyou points are earned?

There’s a version that gives thank you points and another that gives shopyourway points for the basic rewards rates but statement credits for these bonus offers.

Make sure to do spending in the categories you want. My offers didn’t start until I did that. I’ve made thousands off of the card, so it can be worth it.

I agree with David, put some spending on the card. I did one transaction each month for each category of groceries, dining out, and gas for a few months and then got my first offer and have had multiple offers each month since then.

also just got a 10x offer on min spend of $1000 on home improvement, home furnishings, consumer electronics stores. must spend between 11/1 and 12/31. max pts 12,500

given how best buy has been offering up stuff via other citi cards, that probably counts. home depot could be useful too.

Yeah I got that one too but I have the shopyourway card and this offer was for SYW points vs a statement credit like all the other offers. I want the cash back and not have to redeem the points for a ton of giftcards so I hope this isn’t an indicator that more offers are going to be points for SWY card holders. I have the utilities and food/gas offers going right now too and those are statement credits so we’ll see how it goes.

Good catch, I only skimmed the email earlier and didn’t see the mention about SYWP instead of statement credit. Interestingly I see the mention about “electronics stores” in the email body but it’s not in the fine print section.

Not everything that counts towards the offer is necessarily in the fine print as my Verizon wireless bill payment coded as “Telephone Service” and counted towards the last “Utilities” offer I got despite that not being mentioned as an included category.

out of curiosity did you get the most recent round of this and if so did you do it?

Not sure which recent round you mean, but the last utility bonus on my card was 25x on $100-$360 spend/mo Aug-Oct 2020, and I did use it successfully on local power/gas/sewer utilities.

Got it on mine. The last one you could max on $267/month was manageable, prepaid several utilities. Any DP on creative uses that code? Taxes perhaps? I think if I prepay $1500 in utilities that will cover me into next summer, and some of the utilities might start complaining about my large credit balances.

My hoa payment via plastiq codes is
Restaurants-UTILITIES-ELECTRIC,GAS,SANITARY,WATER
Which qualifies as utilities.

Isn’t it hilarious that they somehow put the word Restaurnats in there when it’s a totally different code?? Mine does that for my utilities too. Freaked me out at first but then the statement credit posted so all worked out.
