Additional Information Regarding New Altitude Reserve Card From U.S. Bank

Last week we broke the story about a new premium card from U.S. Bank being introduced calling the altitude reserve card. According to a source from Wallaby, the card specifics will be as follows:

  • Card will be available starting May 1st
  • Only available to existing U.S. Bank customers
  • Sign up bonus of 50,000 points after $4,500 in spend within the first 90 days
  • Comes with an annual $325 travel credit (this is applied automatically). Still unsure what this covers & also if it’s based on a calendar or card member year
  • Annual fee of $400 ($299 for wealth clients according to this reddit comment)
  • Card will earn at the following rates:
    • 3x points on all mobile wallet purchases
    • 3x points on travel
    • 1x point on all other purchases
  • Points are worth 1.5¢ when redeeming for travel through their portal
  • 12 free Gogo passes per year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Metallic card
  • Visa Infinite benefits (unclear if this includes airfare discount)
  • Black car and rental car service
  • TSA PreCheck or Global Entry reimbursement

The fact this card will basically earn 4.5% towards travel portal purchases or 3% cash back is pretty insane. More and more merchants are accepting mobile wallet payments so I don’t think this can really be overstated.

D: I just closed my Us bank account after getting the bonus. Now I regret it lol…

If they do the visa air discount I will close my ritz card. This is MUCH better $$. Although I cant complaint, it was no AF for 1 year 3 free nights at ritz and $600 in AA flights reimbursements 🙂

  2. Ross says:

    No priority pass?

  3. Ben says:

Should we open up a us bank checking account?

  4. What’s the best (and, ideally, most basic) U.S. Bank account to get, in preparation for going for this card?

  5. Ben says:

    Ummm….how is it 4.5%?

  6. jerry says:

    No signup bonus?

  7. Benjamin says:

Sorry new to US bank, what’s the mobile wallet?

  8. NinjaX says:

gonna sit on the sidelines for this one. scared of US Bank…

also dont even know the pts currency used or sign up bonus. guess we will just have to wait.

    • NinjaX says:

ok for whatever reason I missed the 50,000 point sign-up bonus after $4,500 spend in the first 90 days. guess its flexperks. still funny that travel credit is $325. strange number. guess they just wanted to beat the CSR.

    • Jay says:

It is promising that the information from this new source corroborates the previously unsubstantiated details that were mentioned in Will’s previous post about this card (which I’m sure you’ve seen).

If the rest of the details (especially the 50k signup bonus and 1.5x travel redemption) turn out to also be true, I wonder how many new low-quality checking account customers they’ll receive as a result of coming out with the next CSR, lol.

It would certainly replace Cash+ and FlexPerks as the face of US Bank.

      • NinjaX says:

yea. if the rumors are all true, we will have a bigger CSR event in our community. you can already see how ugly this may become.

maybe i am just a pessimist, but when there is a huge influx of hands in the cookie jar, some say “well get ur share while you can” but I say “i wanna see how many hands get cut off first before i put mine in…”

US Bank is not a friendly place. I dont think this CC is sustainable at all.

i would argue this is better than CSR. i expect a huge influx of new chkn account holders and CC sign up for the 3x Mobile Wallet everywhere.

and USB may help make Samsung a lot of money. we are talking about tens of thousands of new samsung android users for 3x abuse. i dont see it go too well.

  9. kevin says:

i have us bank credit card, but now checking. am i qualified? thx

  10. kevin says:

i have us bank credit card, but no checking. am i qualified? thx

  11. DrGForce says:

US Bank has a reputation for offering a great card upfront and then neutering it over time. Just look at how the Cash+ card started off compared to what it is now. The benefits on this card look too good to be true and unsustainable in the long run.

That being said, I’m not saying you shouldn’t get in while the gettin’ is good though. 🙂

    • Dan says:

Yeah, first the 25% bonus is one in lifetime, then they changed categories to be narrow and useless…

      • Jeff says:

They added Ground Transportation recently which is a big bonus for me.

Also, 5% on bookstores captures Amazon purchases as well.

  12. Trevor says:

US Bank employees earn an extra 25% FlexPerks on the existing cards today so I’m hoping this carries over there as well.

  13. Dan says:

This looks like my next card if I can get it…

  14. Dave says:

You said it’s for existing USB customers… I have the Club Carlson card but no checking or savings account. Any word on if that’ll help me?

  15. Tom says:

Too bad US Bank points cannot be converted to any airline or hotel currency.
I’m probably gonna pass on this card because of this.

  16. Chucks says:

4.5% on mobile wallet pay? So Android Payments, for instance? That’d be fascinating. Could open up a Pandora’s box of options.

If it comes with lounge access it could be very competitive with CSR as a keeper.

    • Dan says:

We need more clarification on this one… I can’t believe they would pay out that much for Android Pay transactions.

      • Steve says:

I am thinking that since these payments are more secure (i.e. a throw away number is used at the time of purchase), that there is less risk of fraud. So pushing people this way may cost them less in the long run

  17. italdesign says:

Too bad USB is unattainable for churners. Or are they still? Rejected three separate times for club Carlson card years ago. Did freeze ARS and IDA.

    • adam d says:

I got the flexperks amex and visa signature after probably 12/24, not unattainable at all, freeze ars and sagestream prior.

  18. Dan says:

Hey general comment on your US Bank/ U.S. Bank posts. It seems like roughly half the time you title them “U.S. Bank” and the other half you do “US Bank”. This makes it hard to search because searching one form excludes the other form. So if you could, it would help if you stick to one convention when doing your US/U.S. Bank posts.

    • Sheboygan Toboggan says:

What’s funny is that even they’re not consistent about it. Check out the picture of the card. US Bank on the left, U.S. Bank on the right.

PS: That upper right corner looks like garbage and I really hope they don’t release a card looking like that.

  19. Lindsey says:

    Are the points transferable?

  20. Tyler says:

Is this an extension of Flexperk? If I upgrade from flex perks to altitude do I keep my points?

  21. XP1 says:

Post should define what a “wealth client” is.

    • Do you know the answer?

      • NinjaX says:

you need to be part of the USB The Private Client Group ($100k), The Private Client Reserve (?) or w/ Ascent Private Capital Management ($25MM).

this is no different than Citi Gold or Chase CPC etc. but i guess now we know where they got the word reserve from. its used a lot within their wealth management group. maybe Chase copied USB.

  22. Lrdx says:

3x points with mobile wallet + 1.5c / point??? Hello flat 4.5x everywhere with Samsung Pay?

  23. WR says:

Any signup bonuses available for US bank deposit accounts?

  24. Josh says:

Imagine if it is $325 in incidental fees. That would be hilariously limited.

If US Bank gives PPS +2 and/or Boingo Access, this will be hard to pass this up for me and I will have to contemplate downgrading to CSP.

  25. tassojunior says:

I’ve had two experiences with US, both awful.

First was the Carlson card where they took away the 2nd night free on awards perk while Carlson devalued Carlson points too. “Too good to be true” went to “almost worthless”.

Second was last year with the Olympic Perks promo on the Flexperks card. The ad I applied under gave almost double points from the US winning gold medals. They said I hadn’t applied under that promo and I even sent them screenshots of the offer. Went through several levels of appeal, all denied. I “cashed” out my Flexperks with a $400 Southwest ticket cancelled for Southwest travel funds for my points.

Will take a lot for me to ever deal with US again. Buyer beware.

  26. Owen says:

Can mobile wallet be used online? I have a huge amount of non-category spend and it’d be great if I could get 3x on that, especially after my Disco IT miles runs out.

  27. 5150 says:

Elan Financial Services is US Bank?
Can you do a product change from Fidelity Visa?
Does Elan count as customer of US Bank?

  28. JohnFromATL says:

“Only available to existing U.S. Bank customers”

Should I submit my receipts from OM/OD? 🙂
