Update 9/22/26: apparently it was showing before and is no longer showing. So it was probably just a temporary mess-up by Chase. And so my guess now is that the original Freedom does still have foreign transaction fees. Freedom Flex does not have foreign transaction fees.

Chase recently removed foreign transaction fees from the Freedom Flex card. The official update only applied to Freedom Flex, not to the original Freedom or to Freedom Unlimited. But many people are now seeing no foreign transaction fees mentioned as a benefit on the original Chase Freedom card.
I tried finding on my own OG Freedom and have not been able to find it, but numerous people are seeing it somewhere.
Note: there is a chance that it was some cross-over mess up and isn’t actually true since it’s not yet mentioned in the terms. But I’m optimistic that this got changed alongside the Flex update as a legit update and was not announced since they don’t really release press about the OG Freedom.
The Freedom Unlimited still has a foreign transaction fee.
For context, the OG Freedom is called in the Chase system ‘Freedom with Ultimate Rewards’. It’s the same as the Freedom Flex minus a few benefits which were added when they revamped the OG Freedom into the Freedom Flex years back. The OG Freedom card is no longer available for applications. Some people still have it from way back or they did a product change to it – it’s sometimes available as a product change option when the Freedom Flex is not. Some people also like it for Costco since it’s a Visa, but otherwise the Flex version is superior in every way.
(FYI, the regular Chase reps still don’t know about the update on the Flex version not having a FTF, so it won’t help to ask them about that or about the OG Freedom.)
