How To Ensure You’ll Receive Pre-Approved Offers

Opt Out Prescreen

Under the FCRA, you’re able to opt out of credit and insurance offers that aren’t initiated by you. If you’ve previously opted out, you’ll need to opt back in (you’re opted in by default). The website you need to use is: https://www.optoutprescreen.com. Click opt in and follow the prompts.

Chase

This is the big one at the moment because of the Chase Sapphire Reserve and in branch pre-approvals getting around the Chase 5/24 rule (F.A.Q for that found here). By default you’re privacy settings will be set up to receive promotion offers, but if you’ve changed any of your settings then you might need to do the following:

There is also some speculation that Chase does new pre-approvals every month on the 1st, although I don’t know how this would have worked with the Chase Sapphire Reserve – once we get to September 1st we’ll quickly see if there is any truth to this or not.

Update: If you receive an error for the above, make sure you’re logged out and then log back in.

How To View Your Pre-Approved Offers Online

If you want to see what pre-approved offers you have online, then check out this page. We list the pre-approval checkers for all of the major card issuers.

Our Verdict

I’m not suggesting everybody should be opted in to receive these promotions, there are obvious privacy and environmental concerns. If you have opted out and want to opt back in, then this is how to do.

can anyone confirm if this is true that waiting for the 1st of the month preappovals will occur?

I was able to go through the Chase privacy steps for the personal cards, but when choosing business I got the message to call them. Anyone was able to update the business settings online?

P.S. If you get the same error on personal cards, make sure you’re logged out of Chase on the browser that you’re attempting to update the settings. Try a different browser or privacy mode if you keep getting the error.

Old thread, but… just tried to opt back in for Chase business, and neither this link nor a googled link works – I can log in, but the ‘site is not working right now’ and ‘privacy preferences’ does not appear on the left menu (contrary to my experience with a personal card). I called and was told by a CSR that it is not possible to opt back in for business cards. Which is utterly bizarre (not that I have not had my share of bizarre experiences with Chase at this point), but thought I would let people know (and I am not up to HUCAing over it).

Guys – thanks for all the great work here. Two questions:

(1) can hard inquiries be combined for in-branch applications? I’m considering doing private client and trying to get CSR + ink plus in-branch.

(2) Is there any way we can support you guys other than just sharing the blog and word of mouth? This blog is awesome and I want to support it.

Thanks

1) Personal and business usually result in 2 hard pulls, in any case.

2) Sharing is the best! You can also use the Amazon/eBay links on the side of each page (and an occasional other link we throw into posts and mention that it’s a referral link). Thanks for your support!

Thanks will do! Any sense on whether two personal apps can be combined in-branch? Or one in-branch application and one online on the same day for two personal cards?

I permanently opted out of receiving offers many years ago and tried to opt back in several months ago after I had started churning a bit. I still haven’t received a single offer.

Hi,

I just got the pre-approval for Reserve in branch and applied in branch too. The banker had to call the lending department for application review as he didn’t get the decision instantly.

The banker said its because of the backlog of so many Sapphire Reserve applications. It is taking about 2 weeks for the lending dept to process these apps.

Are others facing the same issue too? I think I’m over the 5/24 limit. Is anyone getting instant decisions in branch?

We are unable to locate any offers for you at this time.

This may be because you have opted out of “pre-screened” offers from Chase and other companies or you have recently responded to another offer from Chase.
However we may still have products to meet your needs. Please continue to chase.com

how come i get nothing i never opted out?

I wonder if updating income in the Chase settings can help, too.
