Get 2x Fuel Points on Visa Gift Cards at Stop&Shop/Giant

The Offer

Direct Link for Giant, Stop & Shop

  • Purchase any Visa gift cards sold at Giant or Stop & Shop and receive 2x gas points on the purchase

giant-stop-and-shop-fuel-points

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S, but on occasions like this they’ll release an offer to give points for gift card purchases.

This time around, the occasion seems to be the newly allowed usage of credit cards to pay for Visa/MC/Amex gift cards purchases, as mentioned in the ad (pictured above).

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid from 10/14/16 – 10/20/16
  • Must use Stop&Shop/Giant rewards card in order to get the points (and to redeem them as well)

Gas Points Details

Giant/S&S revised their fuel points program on August 9, 2016 with a limit of 20 gallons (at least in some areas) and a max of $1.50 discount.

Here are the updated details:

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1.
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included.
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

Yay! We haven’t had a good fuel deal in a while.

For a number of months, Giant/S&S were not accepting credit cards for Visa gift purchases, but they recently started accepting them again. For me, that brings the game back on.

Buy $750 worth of Visa gift cards for each tank of gas you’ll be using within the next month, and get the full 1500 points for $1.50 off per gallon.

Bugger. These circulars are for 6 days, so it’s over on Thursday, not today.

It’s not the bonanza it was with 35 gallons and $2.20 off your gas, but it’s a solid deal if you have an easy way of getting rid of the gift cards. I’m a bit surprised that Giant/Stop&Shop still sell $500 Visas. Most supermarkets have limited their variables to $200. If Giant ever does that, it will be the end of this deal for all practical purposes.

set for free gas in 3 cars till end of next month.

Used sears citi thankyou card – was targeted for 10x points for purchase upto $1000 each month till december AND 5x points on purchases above $100 anywhere. Not sure if both will combine, but if it does, it would be 15% back (in TY points of course)

It’s written on the weekly circular that they accept credit cards. Call up your local giant or Stop and Shop and mention about what’s written on the circular.

I now have 2,072 gas points on my account. Filling up will only use 1,500 of them so, I can just buy Visa gift cards everyday and just use up all the points before the 30 days expire. Well at least I hope that plan will work, that would be a good amount of savings. Thanks Doc for the good news.

I’ll check my nearby S&S to see if they accept credit card now. I wonder why they would change, though.

Updated terminals reduced their liability.

In Virginia Martin’s (a sister company of S&S) has $.20 per hundred. In the past a $500 card would be equivalent to a $1 off per gallon of gas up to 20 gallons ($20 off). They may have other restrictions now.

Still no credit card accepted by S&S in MA make this deal a lot less attractive. 🙁

There is a Shell station right in front of the Stop & Shop near my home, but I never bother going to Shell for gas as their price is usually around 10 cents/gallon higher than speedway and BP, and I just let the points on my Stop and shop reward card expire. I prefer they have instant discount on the visa gift card fees

The one near me only has max $100 for visa and $500 for AE, so I didn’t bother asking whether CC can be accepted to buy giftcard. Shell is actually 15 cents/gallon higher than the speedway near me. So overall the deal is not for me.
