Avoiding Fees

There are no monthly fees on this account and no early account termination fee.

Our Verdict

Ok, so the fine print states that this is a targeted offer but this might not be being enforced (one datapoint here and more via e-mail as well). You can read data points on people getting the bonus when not targeted for a previous $400 offer here as well (and a recent $200 offer). This is really YMMV and remember you won’t be eligible to ever get the bonus again if you sign up for an account. I wish everybody the best if they decide to go for this offer, but I don’t feel comfortable making a recommendation one way or the other. Debate this among yourselves in the comments. As always you can view bonuses we do recommend here.

  1. Clifton McDaniel says:

I’ve been holding out on this offer and really doubt I’ll ever be targeted for anything by them since I live in the South. I’m debating whether or not to just go for this since I really want the account. Thoughts?

  2. Bradley says:

I’ve always wondered… I did a Capital One 360 about 5+ years ago, just curious if the fact that I got a bonus ever rolls off and I can do it over again….

    • Ken says:

For Capital One they enforce lifetime rules, and this also includes banks that they have acquired over the years. So if you used to have an old Electric Orange Checking account you cannot get the bonus for this account.

      • joE says:

wow even acquired banks? Is this based on your own experience or DP’s?

        • MoreSun says:

Lots of DP posted that past ING customers are ineligible for the bonus on the recent 360 MM offer.

        • Master Allan says:

Back in 2012 I closed my ING account before the CapOne transition under some pointless self brewed protest. I’ve read the small print as ineligible for any CapOne bonuses even 5 years later.

  3. Chong says:

If I were to take the plunge and apply even though I wasn’t targeted, would I still be eligible for a bonus in the future if this doesn’t work?

  4. Ken says:

Is Capital One sensitive to high Chex inquiries? No mention on the DoC list.

  5. David says:

Any idea what it takes to be targeted? I currently have a Capital One Venture CC but no other accounts with them.

I may give this one a try. If it works I’ll leave a DP.

  6. Jeff G says:

I’m giving it a try, too. Doing the legit payroll DD so I won’t know if it succeeds until the end of May.

  7. Bob says:

How do we get targeted for this? If you are targeted, please leave your DP here whether you have any capital one products.

  8. NN says:

FWIW, I signed up for the $200 back in January, which is also targeted, and I don’t believe I was targeted (no mail, no offer when logged in to my account, but I do have a credit card with capital one, though). The requirements were a bit different but the bonus was paid out so fast, in 2-3 days.
    So, it’s definitely YMMV

  9. NBG says:

I have a cap 360 money market account. Am i eligible for this checking offer?.

  10. NBG says:

Another qn: If exisitng money market a/c holder, should is say i am new to 360 or login to existing account and apply?.

  11. Austin Auclair says:

makes me wish i would have read that capital one letter I got the other day….

  12. James says:

Call 1-800-289-1992 and you can ask the CSR to confirm your targeted in their system. I forgot what they ask for exactly but maybe SSN.

I did not get an targeted email or mail for their last $200 promo but called the number and the CSR confirmed I was eligible with the promo code.

Opened the Capital One 360 checking and received the bonus.

  13. Jordan says:

I didn’t see anywhere I could enter the promo code and ended up opening the account without it, would that prevent me from getting the bonus?

  14. Ken says:

Tried for my wife, but after entering in SSN and address it said info didn’t match and stopped. All I entered was SSN and address and I know both are correct.

Also no place to enter the promo code.

  15. CC says:

called the CS, he said it was targeted only for Boston area (like EXP400 offer). Checked my name and zip code in the system but not targeted. I do have 1 CC and 1 auto loan with them.
Hope one day they can extend the bonus to other states.

    • MoreSun says:

What is with Cap1’s obsession with Boston?

    • Don’t think that’s true as non Boston people have been getting the offer as well.

    • Luke says:

Just changed my mailing address to Boston. I’m hoping I can trick the system into targeting me, or thinking that I’m targeted. If not that, this will be risk mitigation if I decide to open the account not targeted.

      Will post DPs.

    • Ryan says:

I also called the CS and he told me it was targeted for Boston. He said they also have a targeted offer for Seattle, but I didn’t ask what it was.

  16. Guy Bucktastik says:

Called 800-289-1992, asked csr if I had the offer.

She said I did not have the offer.

I bet the call center is in either Minnesota or North Dakota.

  17. Chong says:

Called and turns out I used to have an ING account years back which I totally forgot about. O, well.

  18. Teck says:

I was not targeted back in Jan for the $200 checking bonus, even though language said only for targeted, yet I still received the bonus. Worth a shot.

  19. Ken says:

Where do you enter the promo code? Which step/page is it on?

  20. NBG says:

Took the risk and went for it. WIll see how it goes. Also for those wondering where to enter the promo code, it asks in the funding page at the bottom.

  21. Kien says:

I went to the website and signed up without being targeted. Called customer service and was able to confirm that I’ll receive the $400 after meeting the deposit requirement (2 $250 deposits)

  22. Jeff G says:

Stupid DD question: Can you send 2 DD’s at the same time from the same source? For example 2 $250 from paycheck to Cap One on the exact same time and day? Does that count as two DD?

      • Jeff G says:

Sorry, does “+1” mean “yes, that does work”?

        • NBG says:

No. It means I am also interested to find the answer. But, iam asking my employer today about this. Will post if I get an answer.

          • Jeff G says:

My DD just went through and showed up as two different deposits. That should work, now I just wait and see if the bonus appears since I am not sure if I was targeted.

        • NBG says:

I guess your 2 DD is Real Employer DD?. When did it post?. Usually bonus posts every tuesday evening.

          • Jeff G says:

Yes, sorry, they were both real employer DD. It only showed up in the account this morning, so will probably have to wait until next week to find out if the bonus works.

          • Jeff G says:

So it worked. Posted as two separate DD’s in my CapOne account on 5/10. Bonus posted around 1pm PST, Tuesday, 5/16.

        • NBG says:

Thanks for the bonus update. I have wait for my 2nd to hit next month.

  23. NBG says:

Here is another promo (not sure if its already posted) – again it says some targeted language – but it comes up in regular bing search. No DD requiremetn. Just $1000 deposit. You get $200 for checking and 200 for money market. You can do both or only one.
    https://www.capitalone.com/together360/

    • James says:

Any DPs or info on the money market one? I thought all the other offers wanted a $10k deposit

      • NBG says:

I already have a Money Market with that 10K deposit offer. You can try this new offer and be the DP :).

        • James says:

Looking it over I think it might actually be targeted, like linked to a name/SS#. There’s no promo code on the page and it doesn’t auto fill with one when you get to the funding page.

  24. Chris says:

I saw enough data points for me personally and went ahead and applied, although not targeted. I have to say probably the quickest application ever– I was signed up first into my online Capitol One Savings then it was a breeze, probably 3 minutes tops.
Still remembering the nightmare of opening a HSBC Checking (and New Buffalo, which took more than a month and still is not completely opened!)

    Good luck to all!

  25. Sam says:

Will a Serve transfer count as DD?

  26. ronaldo says:

anyone know if paypal triggers the direct deposit?

  27. Marco says:

Has there ever been a better bonus for this account?

  28. Elver Galarga says:

DP: I called and CSR said it is only targeted for Boston area and if I used that code I wouldn’t qualify.

    • Chris says:

Of course they will tell you that. But if you try and satisfy the requirements, then the bonus may come automatically…

  29. Budget Nerd says:

Was able to submit application, and received account/routing number instantly. Input PLUS400 code on funding page. Already began the $250 DD from my employer. Will post DP if bonus is received.

  30. Avi says:

I live in Boston and have no prior banking relationship with CapOne. So I called the CSR. The lady didn’t ask me for the reference code. She pulled up my ZIP code, couldn’t find any offers for me, did another search with my SSN, again no offers. Seems like being targeted is a must.

  31. Deagan says:

I wasn’t targeted, applied through the posted link, got denied due to poor Chex score (too many injuries). Froze my Chex report and reapplied within an hour and got the account approved. Soon after, I called the CSR and confirmed that the bonus code is attached to my account. So thanks Doc!

    • James says:

Wait…so freezing chex can sometimes let you approved at banks? I didn’t even know this was a thing

    • Ken says:

How many Chex inquiries did you have in the past 6 and 12 months? What was the error that you got the first time?

      • Deagan says:

5 inquiries in last two years, all of them coming in the last two months. But then I am a 23 year old with less than 3 years of banking history in the US, so my chex score dropped significantly.

        • James says:

Really? Damn, I’m around the same age with about the same amount of banking history and opened over 12 accounts and probably 14-15 inquiries in the past 3 months and was able to open just now. M&T bank is a helluva drug lol

Maybe something else on your report got flagged?

          • Deagan says:

Maybe there’s something negative that’s come up. I have ordered a Chex report, will probably end up disputing something on it. I intend to apply for at least 4 more banks over the next two months. Let’s see how far I can go with a frozen Chex. 😀

    • artgriego says:

      uhhh injuries or inquiries?

  32. James says:

Apparently someone did this offer on Reddit a few months ago and didn’t get it, same code and everything.:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/5nlbxx/capital_one_360_checking_account_400_offer_is/

    • James says:

But also a few people claim they did. So dunno

      • Deagan says:

Extremely YMMV. Proceed at your own risk.

        • James says:

My two ACH pushes posted today so hopefully we’ll find out if the bonus gods like or hate us soon. They both coded as payments.

I read up on some past capital one bonus posts on here, reddit, and slickdeals. Most got it within 6-7 biz days so if we don’t get it within maybe 2 weeks we’re probably SOL.

          • NBG says:

Usually, then post every tuesday / wednesday. Atleast that is the case with 360 Money Market promotions.
I did a real employer DD of 250 and another from Discover CB redemption for $250. Will see how it goes.

    • Information Booth says:

The code is different. The other code was EXP400, according to the Reddit comment. In case anybody was curious.

  33. Miya says:

Called in to see if I was targeted and the CSR confirmed this offer is only for people in the Boston area. Has anyone NOT in that area received this bonus or were confirmed to be eligable?

  34. zalmy says:

Just applied for both the 400 checking and 200 savings, targeted for neither. I’ll let you all know how it goes. btw- their online application process is a BREEZE!

  35. Jacob says:

How long does the bonus take to post? I completed the requirements on 5/4 and it hasn’t posted yet.

  36. Information Booth says:

I applied for the $400 checking bonus a few minutes ago. Non-targeted for offer, but I think it’s worth the gamble. I’m not calling the bank as I don’t want to draw attention to my account. I’m in MI. I’ll let y’all know what happens.

    • Bernie!!! says:

I think it’s fine you can call the CSR. I called them up the other day, the guy said that there’s a chance that I could get the bonus, but he can’t say for sure as I wasn’t targeted. Anyway, if I don’t get the bonus, I will just ask for the $100 bonus that some people are being matched up for.

    • Rox says:

I’m from MI as well. Wondering if I should apply. Can you update if you got the bonus?

  37. travelmom says:

Took a chance and opened checking on 5/5, scheduled the 2 transfers from my main bank account to hopefully fulfill dd requirement. Will update if $400 bonus posts.

I am nowhere near the targeted area.

  38. Zachek says:

Signed up last week. Didn’t call to see if I was targeted (and I don’t live in Boston.) Sent DD from Alliant because the last two bank bonus I tried to trigger with Schwab DDs showed up as P2P. Will report back. It should be noted that the fine print states pretty clearly, “You will receive the $400 credit to your checking account about 90 days after accepting terms and conditions.” So I won’t be holding my breath.

  39. NBG says:

For the 2nd DD, i tried Discover CB redemption which posted yday for 250. So far bonus hasn’t triggered (usually tuesday). So either i am fried or Discover DP isn’t working anymore. Hoping its the later.

    • James says:

Didn’t get the bonus either. I used my GS bank savings acc and did 1 $250 push last Wednesday and another last thursday.

I’m just going to try legit payroll direct deposits over the next month.

    • Ariel says:

Did you receive it today (the next Tuesday)?

      • NBG says:

The discover redemption didn’t work. So i am waiting for my 2nd real emp DD to post next month. In the meantime i am trying Santander Bank to see if that triggers earlier.

  40. TWoK says:

Not targeted, do not live in Boston, opened account, had two payroll direct deposits post and a few days later received the $400 bonus. Combined with the $200 for the money market this makes me one happy camper!

  41. NotWhoYouThink says:

DP: I opened up this account a few weeks ago without getting the targeted offer, didn’t call CSR or anything – just took a shot in the dark. I met the requirements not long ago and the bonus has been successfully posted to my account. Good luck to all others!

  42. James says:

    According to one comment here:
    http://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/#comment-387927
Apparently they can tell it’s a fake DD if it has trial deposits. I wonder if Santander would work to trigger the bonus? They don’t require verification for transfers. I’ll try it out and update in a week or two.

    • Jake says:

That would explain why my Alliant Credit Union deposits did not work. It’s only been a week since they posted but people on here have reported getting the bonus within a few days of DD

    • zalmy says:

I used Santander, from both my account and someone else’s, neither worked. Serve didn’t work either. Not sure what to do. Advice? I have M&T, Alliant, Discover (cashback bonus), Santander, and Chase.

  43. Jeff G says:

DP: Was NOT targeted, but applied anyway.

    4/26: Opened checking account
4/26: Closed my money market account and moved balance to checking account
5/10: Two direct deposits from payroll (same amount, twice)
5/16: Cha Ching! $400 bonus posted

5/16 Opened checking account for wife and hope for a repeat!

    • Ken says:

Nice! How many accounts have you opened in the past 12 months and where are you located?

      • Jeff G says:

Located 90 miles north of Seattle.

This account is my 6th since in the last 12 months. Really 6th in the last 5 months.

        • Ken says:

Thanks. I’m way over that. Will probably give it a shot anyways.

          • Jeff G says:

I wish I had more opportunities. Not many WA state or PNW bonuses out right now.

          • Avi says:

I’d suggest freezing your Chex before applying if you’re worried. I wasn’t approved for the 360 checking account initially due to a low Chex score (too many accounts recently). But then I froze it and applied again the same day, this time it went through.

          • Ken says:

Applied and approved and I’ve opened 8 accounts over the past 2 months.

    • NBG says:

Can you tell how the DD from employer was coded as?. Mine says Deposit in type and in Info says Direct Dep.

  44. Ken says:

Applied and it didn’t even get to the part where it asks me questions, so I wasn’t able to enter the promo code. It wants me to call in. No way are they going to let me add the promo code onto my account if I’m not targeted.

    • Ken says:

Ended up calling and killing almost an hour, but my new account was opened and I was able to enter the promo code into the promo box so fingers crossed. I’ll setup real DD, but it looks like some other banks work too.

Turns out I had an old savings account with ING 10 years ago and another savings account with some other bank they bought out 7 years ago.

      • Harry says:

So you’re saying you were able to complete the application online but got help by calling in because of some computer glitch?

        • Ken says:

Yes. My profile was locked and they needed to do stuff on their end to unlock it so I could create a new login with my current address/info. Same thing happened to my wife, but she hasn’t called in yet and I doubt she will. After they got my profile updated with the current info I was able to go through the application again and was instantly approved.

          • Harry says:

Thanks for the info. I’m considering trying for this bonus also even though I’m not targeted either.

Did they confirm with you that the promo code was accepted while you had them on the phone or did the online application just go through and you’re now hoping that the code went through.

          • Ken says:

He said I was not targeted, but that if I entered the promo code in the application it would be attached to my account. Others here have not been targeted and have received the bonus so I took a risk. Crossing my fingers.

          • Fred says:

After you were approved online, did you immediately get your account and routing numbers so you could setup the direct deposit.

          • Jeff G says:

Yes, they give you the account and routing number immediately.

          • Ken says:

@Fred – Yes, I got routing and account numbers on the confirmation page.

          • Fred says:

            Thanks Ken and Jeff G

  45. James says:

DP: Goldman Sachs savings triggered the bonus for me! I was not targeted and I live outside the target area (Florida)
    4/30 Account opened
5/3 GS Bank ACH Push $250
5/4 GS Bank ACH Push $250
    5/16 Bonus posted

  46. NoonRadar says:

Has anyone with an existing CapOne checking or savings tried to see if they’d get any of these bonuses?

I know the verbiage excludes current account holders, but then again the state limitation or email targeting doesn’t seem to be hard coded for them.

  47. MoreSun says:

Side note: for anyone else who missed the memo on the 360 money market, the APY dropped to 0.60% for accounts <10,000 at the end of Mar. Doc has updated info on the MM post (of course!), but I completely missed that until now since I got the bonus and tucked the account away so to speak.

  48. Grant says:

    Here are my datapoints:

    4/28 – Account Opened
    5/3 – $25 opening deposit
    5/3 – $250 direct deposit posted
    5/5 – $250 direct deposit posted
    5/16 – $400 bonus posted (Cha-Ching! New Account Bonus)

I will keep the account open for a few months with a $5 balance, thank you no monthly fee 🙂

    • Ken says:

Hey Grant. Were you targeted? You’re in the Bay Area, right? I think we met in Denver at the last meetup with Nigel and Will.

  49. Grant says:

Hey Ken, yes, im SF, but I didn’t get any targeted email or mail for the offer. Just applied with the info from this post 🙂

  50. Ken says:

Same boat as me. Fingers crossed I get this bonus!

Have you been following all the M&T bonus posts?

  51. Jake says:

My $250 DDs from Alliant Credit Union failed and now it appears my Ally Bank DDs have failed also. What am I doing wrong?

    • Trippy says:

When did you deposit? What did they show up as?

Someone else above also mentioned Ally as failing.

    • Ken says:

You linked the Capital One account at both Alliant and Ally before sending the $250? If they’re both already linked there’s no reason why it would have failed for either bank. I have Alliant linked to my 360 account with no problems.

When you say failed, do you mean the money did not transfer to your 360 account?

  52. travelmom says:

Can anyone confirm if they received the bonus yesterday?

My husband and I both opened the checking, but nothing posted yesterday. Tried ACH from local credit union and serve.

Was expecting his mm $200 bonus also, but that didn’t post either.

  53. NBG says:

Anyone who recently opened this account have this message show up in the confirmation screen and also below the promo code entry field saying about the terms – available in greater boston area and do 2 dd of $250, etc.
I didn’t pay attention when i opened back in Apr. My wife opened yesterday and she saw that message.

    • Ken says:

I opened 8 days ago and don’t remember seeing that. DDs posted 2 days ago (both of them from my Amazon seller account on the same day) so I’m still waiting with my fingers crossed.

  54. Jimbo Needs that Bonus! says:

I opened mine last week of April.
    5/5 Legitimate DD from employer
    5/19 Legitimate DD from employer

and still nothing… I might just not get anything 🙁

    • MoreSun says:

Maybe they’re done with bonus processing till next month? I wouldn’t give up hope yet, no one’s seems to have processed this week.

      • NBG says:

From the 2 confirmed DP, it looks like Bonus is posted on 5/16 irrespective of when the DD happened. So may be its posted only on certain tuesdays.

    • Jimbo Got that Bonus! says:

Holy guacamole! My bonus came in as well! Arrive 6/8/2017. Cha-Ching! New Account Bonus

  55. James says:

My second DD from employer posted last Friday but no bonus this week.

    • NBG says:

      Does it say Direct Deposit?

      • Ken says:

I have some Amazon payments (which is my job) and all it says is deposit. It says the same thing for the Alliant trial deposits too. Is it actually supposed to say direct deposit?

        • NBG says:

My real DD says Direct Dep. So far, i have seen Direct Deposit and ACH terms seem to work.

          • Ken says:

I’ll try Alliant next, but the trial deposit said “deposit” also and not direct deposit. I’m surprised the Amazon Marketplace deposit didn’t work as that is my legit employer.

        • MoreSun says:

Is there a section that says “info” when you click on the transaction via their desktop website? My trial credits are “Type: Deposit” and “Info: Trialcredt”. My employer DD is “Type: Deposit” and “Info: Quickbooks”. Obviously I’m hoping their system pays attn to “Info” because otherwise my legit DD won’t work either. Guess we’ll stay tuned! (FWIW I haven’t met the reqs yet as I only have 1 DD, so I won’t know for a while.)

        • MoreSun says:

Forgot to add: I pushed some money from Ally as a test and that coded as “Type: Deposit” and “Info: P2p”.

  56. Ralph says:

Before getting to the application it asks whether you are an existing Capitol One 360 Customer or New to Capitol One 360. I’ve never been a 360 customer but currently have a Capitol One credit card and have had their money market accounts previously.

In fact when I log in to the money market account (vs just the credit card account), they show my closed accounts with them along with the credit card account). Was wondering if I should say I am an existing customer or not, or does it matter.

    Any thoughts?

    • NBG says:

Doesn’t matter as it will figure out and ask you to login. It did it for me as I have a money market account.

      • Ralph says:

So once your application is approved, it will immediately show in your online account when you login?

        • NBG says:

Yes.that is correct. But, ever before that, it will force you to login to complete the application and funding. Atleast, that’s what happened in my case.

  57. Ken says:

DDs showed up this morning as follows. Don’t know if this helps.

Fidelity: Deposit from FID BKG SVC LLC MONEYLINE

Alliant: Deposit from Alliant CU. ONLINE WD

  58. Maddy says:

Opened the account on April 28. I did the money transfers from Alliant credit union to 360 checking in the first week of May. I have not received the bonus till now. I believe deposits from Alliant CU are no more working as DD to the 360 checking account.

  59. Ryan says:

After my two direct deposits, do I need to leave the money in the account or can I withdraw before the bonus comes?

  60. Heather says:

I opened the account and accepted the terms in the last week of April (didn’t note the exact date). Opening deposit cleared on May 2. Had $250 employer DD on May 4 and May 18. $400 bonus deposited today, May 31, and is available for use. To my knowledge, I wasn’t targeted (didn’t receive an email or mailer, didn’t call in to check).

  61. MoreSun says:

    I 2nd employer DD posted 5/31, bonus posted 5/31.
    Not targeted, live in CA.

  62. Ken says:

I’ve had 2 Amazon deposits (yes, my employer) as well as 2 Alliant deposits and still no bonus. I’ll try 2 from Fidelity and cross my fingers again, but this will be my last chance as I only have 1 employer for DD and no other bank accounts that would work.

  63. Chris says:

Check your accounts!! Looks like today is a pay day!!

    WED, May 31
    Cha-Ching! New Account Bonus, 400.00

In short: not targeted, living outside of the targeted area, two real direct deposits (second one posted this past Friday).
It sounded like a good risk/return situation from the beginning. Perfect example of how being informed and getting data points from the past help us so much in evaluating our chances! Thanks Doc very much!

  64. Avi says:

    Opened: 4/30
    Payroll DDs: 5/5 and 5/19
    Cha-Ching! on 5/31

Had contacted the CSR after opening the account and she said I wouldn’t get the bonus, glad that I went ahead anyway.

    Thanks Doc!

  65. Not targeted, opened with code.

    Opened: 5/1
    Push from Fidelity CMA: 5/9 & 5/16
    Bonus: 5/31

I was worried because it recognized the transaction as a deposit from Fidelity. This is how the details appear:
Deposit from FID BKG SVC LLC MONEYLINE

    • Ken says:

Then there is hope for me after all. I did Alliant and Amazon Payments twice each and no bonus. I’ll try Fidelity next and cross my fingers again.

  66. Dan says:

Bonus posted today yay.. used deposits from several banks not sure which one triggered.

  67. James says:

Bonuses on all 3 accounts posted today. DDs from employer. Easy $1200.

  68. bmanamex says:

    Bonus Posted today.
    I deposited from Vanguard
    5/1 – Opened account
    5/12 and 5/17 – Deposit from Vanguard
5/19 – Started to deposit from employer just to be safe, only one deposit.
    5/31 – Bonus posted

I’m in the Northeast but not in Massachussetts.

    • JuicyJosh says:

Can you tell me what kind of account you have at Vanguard? My wife is a roth there but didnt know if I need to open some other account type to send the “DD” to Cap One.

      • bmanamex says:

Yea, it’s all the same regardless of account. The way the Roth is funded is the way the other accounts are funded. So that means you can withdraw / deposit to and from your chosen bank. You just gotta add it in your Bank Account settings.

        • JuicyJosh says:

Sweet. Love avoiding the slow real DD process. Looks like VG will work for her and Fid for me. I appreciate all the DPs!

        • rurouni572 says:

So did you push it from a Vanguard general investment account, or from your Roth? And it still required trial deposits, right?

          • JuicyJosh says:

I just sent the second VG over today. Opened a brokerage a week ago as wife’s Roth pull auto invest
into funds and didn’t want to skew 2017 contributions . Used VG to pull funds from Ally to VG. From VG brokerage did a “sell” and pushed to CapOne. With any luck should be seeing g $400 soon.

          • JuicyJosh says:

            And yes to trial deposits.

  69. Amber says:

Not targeted, I live in California and got the Bonus.

    3/17 – Opened account
    5/2 – Payroll DD
5/16 – Payroll DD which just so happened to be the 60th day (the last day to fulfill the requirements)
    5/31 – Bonus posted

  70. Str8Shooter says:

    Bonus posted 5/31/17
    Deposits from etrade investment account
$250 deposits made about a week apart
Was not targeted, but did have a savings account.
    Rolled the dice and Scored!!

  71. Ryan says:

    DP – Bonus Posted 5/31

Not targeted, live in Texas, two direct deposits from payroll.
$400 bonus posted today along with everyone else.

  72. NBG says:

Anyone with a Money Market account opened this and got bonus successfully?

    • AL says:

Yeah, got the money market a couple days after the $200 bonus was posted on this site. Got this $400, not targeted, not in targeted area.

      • NBG says:

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess you still have both accounts active?.
I may have to wait for my 2nd employer DD to hit tmrow and see if this bonus posts on 16th.

        • Trippy says:

My Discover didn’t work either (although it worked for Avery below), will try Fidelity.

It does seem a very much YMMV. Ah, well …

    • MoreSun says:

Yes. I closed my MM the day after I received the checking bonus.

  73. Jeff says:

Set up accounts for my wife and I, both not targeted. Opened mine a few weeks ago, did two paycheck DD’s and the bonus posted. Opened my wife’s account recently, did two paycheck DD’s from MY paycheck (May 25) and did not get the bonus yesterday. I am wondering if the bonus did not trigger because it was my paycheck and not hers. I can change around my paycheck, her not too much.

Maybe I need to wait until next week? Although the process for getting the bonus did not seem to follow the rest of your paydays on May 31st.

    • Ken says:

I’m beginning to wonder if something has changed depending on account opening date. I’ve done two sets of DDs and one of them (Amazon DD) should definitely have counted for the bonus and I haven’t received anything yet. Opened my account 5/16/17. I’ll give Fidelity a try, but if that doesn’t work I’m definitely not getting to bonus since many people here who have used only Fidelity have received the bonus.

      • Jeff says:

I opened my account around the same time – with all the DPs the bonus should have posted 5/31. I’m going to give it until next Tues/Wed and if it does not post I may need to try something from Vanguard, that seems to be working for people.

Maybe they closed the non-targeted loophole in the past few weeks?

        • Ken says:

I’d try a pair of Vanguard transfers now to play it safe. I’ve already done one Fidelity and I’ll do another next week..

          • Jeff says:

Well, here we go again, a new week another chance to see if the bonus posts. I’m not holding my breath….

          • Ken says:

My 2nd Fidelity DD posted today so my fingers are crossed. I think they do bonuses every 2 weeks, so if that’s true it’ll be next Tuesday for a chance at the bonus.

          • Jeff says:

I hope you are right Ken, didn’t get the bonus this week. Will hold my breath for next week. If not then, it is over over over.

      • MoreSun says:

If something changed this could be very important info- I hope nothing has though! I have another family member ready to sign up but we’re gonna hold off.

        As a DP I opened 4/27, bonus posted 5/31.

  74. Avery says:

I wasn’t targeted but tried this anyway, just got the $400 bonus. used Discover bank to trigger DD

  75. Jake says:

GS bank is still working trigger the bonus right? My DDs just hit yesterday. I guess I’ll see next Tuesday

  76. Sully says:

    Not targeted, and in CO.
    Opened account 5/12.
2nd DD (employer) hit on 6/2.
    $400 bonus hit on 6/8.

    • Ken says:

Hmmm, I’m in CO too, not targeted, and I’ve had 3 pairs of DDs and have not received the bonus. Account opened mid or early May.

  77. NBG says:

    My bonus surprising hit yesterday.
    Opened 4/28
    1st Employer DD – 5/3
    2nd employer DD – 6/5
    $400 cha-ching! Bonus posted – 6/8

Now my Wife account is still in limbo with the 2 GS push.

  78. Jake says:

Looks like the first round of bonuses were paid out on 5/16 and the second round was paid out on 5/31. A 15 day difference. So the next round should be paid out on 6/15

    • Ken says:

I thought that was the case too until a few people have reported receiving the bonus June 6th which would be a week after the past Tuesday.

  79. Lc says:

Under eligibility – You must be a resident of the great Boston, MA area.

Why idd not one point this out? lol

  80. Budget Nerd says:

Not targeted, got bonus. Will be doing the same for the wife later today.

  81. JP says:

Is YMMV for repeat customers too? I had capital one before am I eligible for this one too?

    • Ken says:

Definitely not. CapOne has the longest memory out of any bank I’ve seen and will disqualify you if you had an account from a different bank that CapOne bought out 10 years ago.

  82. Charles says:

Not targeted, live in OH, never banked with CapOne or had a CapOne CC. Will report back my DP in a month or so after 2x employer DD.

  83. Sam says:

I had a regular Cap1 (not 360) checking account years ago. Am I ineligible for this bonus?

Also any idea if a Schwab Brokerage transfer will trigger the bonus?

  84. mishyq says:

We know the targeted language is not enforced
But can anyone confirm if the below is enforced?

“To qualify for the bonus, you must be the primary account holder, and this has to be your first 360 Checking account (this includes former Electric Orange accounts, too).”

  85. Dave C says:

Tried for this and didn’t get it “You weren’t eligible.” They gave me a $100 bonus though, so that was nice.

    • Chris M says:

      You weren’t eligible why?
And what were the circumstances of the $100 bonus? Did they email you about it? How was it explained?

  86. captainsave says:

    Anybody tried deposit with Schwab?

    • Ken says:

If my Fidelity deposits don’t trigger the bonus I’ll try Schwab next. But it seems like anything that does trial deposits doesn’t work.

      • AndyK says:

On the subject of Fidelity brokerage, I just tried to register my new Cap1 checking account online at Fidelity site as an external account so to be able to do the two ACH transfers, complete fail. It wouldn’t let me register it online and said I had to mail in the “Add external account” form with an attached voided Cap1 check. Have others that have had success with Fidelity also had problems registering Cap1 online as an external account but had to mail in the form instead? Also, just added Cap1 as an external account to my Schwab brokerage… it wouldn’t even let me type in my Cap1 username/password so to verify the account but went straight to Trial Deposits. Not having luck here..

        • Ken says:

Fidelity won’t let you link if the names of both accounts don’t exactly match. And Schwab has never allowed username/pass to log into the external account. They only do trial deposits. I’ve had Schwab for years and have added 30+ external accounts.

          • AndyK says:

            My names match…

          • Ken says:

That’s odd, as I was able to link and then send a small $10 transfer before two $250+ transfers to my CapOne account. I have not received the bonus and tomorrow will be almost 3 weeks since sending the Fidelity transfers.

          • Jay says:

“And Schwab has never allowed username/pass to log into the external account. They only do trial deposits. I’ve had Schwab for years and have added 30+ external accounts.”

What makes you say that? I’ve added over 20 external accounts to my Schwab using only the username/pw method, without verifying trial deposits.

The only one that has confounded that method for me so far is the new Insight card’s RBC account, which obviously doesn’t have real RBC credentials. The trial deposits worked for that account though.

          • Ken says:

@Jay – What website do you use to login to Schwab? https://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/client_home?

          • Jay says:

            @Ken:

That is the domain that I get redirected to when I simply type in “schwab.com”, so yes that is correct. I don’t see why that would matter though.

Anyway, this is the screen that you should see after you try to link a compatible bank:
            http://i.imgur.com/DbiFhF5.png

However, I just confirmed that this screen does not show up for my new Capital One 360 checking account, instead going straight to trial deposits, indicating that Capital One is not a participant. As I mentioned above, this is actually the first bank I’ve come across that doesn’t participate, big or small…

Regions, Northpointe, BMO, BoA, Quorum, BB&T, Chase etc., I could go on (almost) forever. I linked all of those using my login only.

          • Ken says:

@Jay – Some people are still using the old Schwab website which is completely different.

I have never seen that screen in over 30 accounts linked. I have not linked any of the accounts you have mentioned. Is yours for checking or brokerage? I have a brokerage, but I don’t have it linked to any external accounts like I do for checking. Odd that we have two totally different experiences.

          • Matt says:

FWIW, I’ve added a bunch of external accounts to Schwab (not sure if I’m using the old site or the new site) and the username/password option only came up for one or two accounts, while all of the others were trial deposits. Can’t remember which ones. CapOne was definitely trial deposits.

        • JuicyJosh says:

Had the same issue with my Fid acct. Linked BMO, PNC, Santander online no issues. For CapOne I had to submit paper form. Fid banker advised me that all adds had to be done this way in the recent past. Submitted form and screenshot of C1 account profile. C1 now shows on my Fid transfer page. Should be sending ACH soon.

          • Ken says:

That’s weird, I was able to do CapOne from my Fidelity account without sending in any paperwork. Second ACH posted last week and no bonus today 🙁

          • JuicyJosh says:

@ken. The error message I received was instantaneous so I seriously doubt anything external was used. I emailed myself the message.

“In evaluating your online request to link to your bank account, Early Warning (a consumer reporting agency) provided us with information that influenced our decision to not link your bank account. Early Warning played no part in our decision and is unable to supply specific reasons why we weren’t able to add your bank account.”

Tell me that doesnt sound like a bunch of crap.

          • Don’t see why a denial by EWS wouldn’t be instant…

          • JuicyJosh says:

Guess I will request the report tomorrow. Other than 20 accts in 12 months I am sure its clean. Glad Ally doesnt care when linking 😉

          • Eric says:

How many of those 20 are M&T?

          • JuicyJosh says:

Lol. As of 5 minutes ago 6 of 21. Sad but happy I have reached the end of M&T money train – until a new code posts.

      • AndyK says:

Well, I guess between Jay and myself we shall soon see if Schwab works for this bonus…

  87. Austin Auclair says:

Hi unemployed here whats the easiest way to get direct deposits without an employer

  88. NBG says:

Any recent signers since end of May got this message show up in the confirmation screen and also below the promo code entry field saying about the terms –

“available in greater boston area and do 2 dd of $250, etc.”
I asked this before but didn’t see any DP. Now that the post is re-posted, thought i would ask again.

    • chris a says:

I think that has always showed up. I signed up middle of May and this message showed up. I am waiting for my 2nd direct deposit to hit my account. Hopefully i will get the bonus. Fingers crossed!!!

  89. Gonzohawk says:

Just opened my account and logged in. My Accounts Summary page has this message:

“We need to speak with you regarding your account. Please call us at 1-888-420-9943.”

Anybody else have this message? Should I just ignore it? I don’t particularly want to call since I’m definitely not targeted.

  90. Jake says:

Didn’t get the bonus this past Tuesday. Did anyone else get it?

  91. Nick says:

I took the plunge tonight and will be happy to report back along the way, good or bad. DoC has been so beneficial, especially the past year with both credit cards and bank accounts. If it doesn’t work out this time the 2 $250 direct deposits won’t be much of a sacrifice in providing good data points for all. Getting the $400 would definitely keep me around for awhile, especially since the 1% on my 360 Savings isn’t competitive with my first year 1.5% Memory account. I’ll keep ck and sav open if the bonus posts.

  92. Sarah N says:

Giving it a shot today as well. If it doesn’t work, oh well, I didn’t lose anything for trying. Thanks for all the good DPs!

  93. Andrew says:

I will give this a shot. I live outside the target area. Im lucky enough that my employer allows me to do DD and split it 3 way. I will have two $250 hit the account on the 23rd and hopefully report back with a good DP.

  94. GodLike says:

Taking the plunge too, $400 is well worth it.

I’ll post back, going to go the employer $250 route.

  95. Ed says:

For those who have received the bonus pls mention the bank(s) that were successful for the 2 $250 DD that are not employment or government-benefit related. I have a feeling this offer and/or the $400 bonus may disappear quickly, perhaps even for those who have already opened the account but have not yet performed the direct deposits. Time is of the essence in getting those external transfer accounts up and running..

  96. Information Booth says:

Dp: have not yet received bonus. Key bank and Huntington bank don’t trigger. I’ll keep trying other banks.

  97. Trippy says:

    Bonus just hit! Woohoo!
Had given up on it. Now I have money to fix my brakes 😀

Hope NBG’s 2nd account and Ken got it too. Seems like we 3 were the only ones with unsuccessful DPs so far.

    • Trippy says:

Thanks Doc. This and the WFs are big earnings which wouldn’t have happened without the doctor’s efforts and the other members with DPs

    • Jon says:

What did you use to trigger the bonus? Did your bank do trial deposits? Thanks!

      • Trippy says:

I used many sets, including known data points like Discover but was not working so far. My most recent deposits were from Fidelity and Simple.

However, I think my account might have been sort of ‘stuck’ as I was unable to add any external account. Last week I called them and got it fixed and that likely sort of ‘refreshed’ it.

I think Discover should work, there’s also a current $100 promo if you can spare $10k

    • Ken says:

Woohoo!! Received the $400 bonus today too! Looks like Fidelity worked and Alliant and Amazon deposits didn’t work.

      • MoreSun says:

        So happy for you Ken!!

        • Ken says:

Schwab was my backup and according to others they would’ve worked as well.

I had a savings account 10+ years ago with ING which made opening the account a PITA. Wife had a savings account a few months ago and I don’t even want to make her go through the ordeal I did just for $400. Isn’t worth it.

    • NBG says:

Yep. Got the $400 bonus today for my wife after 2 GS $250 push on 5/30. Account was opened on 5/24.
So definitely GS bank ach works. Glad I did that based on earlier dp. Now if there is nice promo for the regular cap 360 savings, it would be sweet!.

      • Trippy says:

Everyone has got it now, then 🙂

I believe MM and Savings are considered in the same bucket, so getting MM bonus rules out any Savings.

    • Zachek says:

I still haven’t gotten mine. Wasn’t targeted and not in Boston (in LA.) Opened early May. Did Alliant transfer per the DoC’s list of DPs but that didn’t work. Just went on disability and the associated BofA account for SDI payments doesn’t ask for trial deposits (plus its technically government benefits but I’m not sure how those qualify, if they have to be set up with the welfare dept, CA EDD, directly?) So I tried 2x $250 transfers from that account a week ago and then two more this week. Still nothing… :-/

  98. Suljaga13 says:

Bonus just hit my account. June 6th and june 8 th. Discover cash back deposit in the amount of $260 trigger the bonus . It just posted .

  99. Ken says:

Let’s get a list of banks that have worked to trigger the bonus.

    YES
    Discover
    Fidelity

    NO
    Amazon Disbursement
    Alliant

  100. Jake says:

Bonus posted today on 6/15. Two direct deposits from GS bank triggered the bonus

  101. Duderino says:

    DP: Opened 5/20
2×250 DD from employer, last hit 6/15
    Bonus posted 6/15

Did one for my SO as well, neither of us was targeted.
    Easy $800.

  102. Rocky says:

    Account opened 5/4
DD From employer: 6/1 and 6/8
Not targeted and no bonus today…. hoping for next week 🙁

  103. Chris a says:

Bonus hit my account too. Strangely, it hit in the middle of the day. When i checked in the morning, there was no bonus. After reading the posts here, i went and checked and i see the CHA- CHING.
    Thanks DoC!!

  104. ed says:

I applied a few days ago and when trying to link my fidelity account got the same mumbo jumbo about names not matching. (They do).

Instead of sending in the paper form which is a hassle I just opened a GS account and linked the Cap360 account instantly. Waiting for money to post and then will send it over.

    Here’s to hoping 🙂

PS I may try sending in the form in the interim just to be safe. Depends if I have the time.

  105. flyerflyer77 says:

Called yesterday using my parents address in boston, not targeted. Pulled the trigger anyway after DP’s of the bonus posting. Hoping I’m not too late. Will report

  106. Redbluefire says:

DP: I live outside the targeted area and didn’t receive a mailer. I applied 5/19, completed 2 ACH-pushes from Schwab Brokerage 5/24, and received the bonus 6/15.

I think the Schwab DP is worth adding to the direct deposit page, since there wasn’t one for Capital One before.

    • AndyK says:

And you had to do the two trial deposits from Schwab first in order to set up the link between Schwab and Cap One? Or no?

      • Redbluefire says:

        yep

        • Zachek says:

Thank you very much for that DP! I have tried a few things and failed so far. The DP’s heretofore had suggested the trial deposits were the hangup so I didn’t even bother to try Schwab. I was just planning on opening a Fidelity account to trigger the bonus, but now I will try this next instead.

    • Nikki says:

Did you link the Schwab brokerage account or the Schwab checking account? When I try to set up the external account on the Capital One 360 page it says it has to be a personal checking account…

Sorry – new to all of this!

      • AndyK says:

You don’t want to set up anything on the CapOne website… you want to set it up from the “push” side (in this case Schwab). Then you push the two $250 ACH deposits from Schwab to Cap1 and hopefully along with the rest of us it will count as two DDs and trigger the bonus

      • Redbluefire says:

I added the capital one account as a transfer destination from schwab, and then transferred money from my brokerage TO Capital One. You don’t want to do it the other way around because then they know for sure that your transfer wasn’t a direct deposit.

  107. Jung says:

    can confirm schwab works

    • Ken says:

      Brokerage or checking?

      • Chris M says:

My first Schwab Brokerage transfer hit today
The heading says “Schwab Brokerage” and they when I expand it, it says
        “Transaction Type: Deposit”
        “Info: Moneylink”
“Appears on your statement as: Deposit from SCHWAB BROKERAGE MONEYLINK”

Jung, is this what your Schwab transfer said?
How long did it take for the bonus to show up after the 2nd transfer?

        • AndyK says:

More info if anybody cares… did two Discover Savings ACHs this week. One hit Monday and the other Tuesday. It says:

          Trans type : Deposit
          Info : p2p
Appears on your statement as: Deposit from DISCOVER BANK P2P

So under “Info” Schwab says Moneylink and Discover Savings says p2p. Who knows what will happen. I plan to do two Schwab ACHs also, for gee whiz sake… just waiting on the $500/2 to be available to push push 😉

        • DD says:

My schwab brokerage shows as an electronic transfer under transaction type. Is that what showed as well?

  108. lz80521 says:

Hi guys, any dp on PP/Venmo withdrawl counting as DD?

    • Austin Auclair says:

be the dp you wish to see in the world

    • Zachek says:

I had $20 on my Venmo (1st time I ever received a payment on Venmo as I’ve mostly been using it to buy points on my CIP) that I tried transferring to see how C1 sees it. It showed up as:
      Transaction Type:Deposit
      Info:Cashout
      Appears on your statement as:
      Deposit from VENMO CASHOUT

  109. Austin Auclair says:

would this be worth it if i had to open a different account to get the DD?

    • Zachek says:

If your rule of thumb is ≥$200/acct opening then potentially, yes. But since there’s no guarantee, it’s up to you.

  110. V says:

I am in VA and I tried a different offer for one family member’s new account (BONUS400, link https://www.capitalone.com/bonus400/).

    Account opened: early May 2017
    First Employer DD: Late May
Second Employer DD: Mid June 6/16
It has been 2 business days since it hit but I don’t see the bonus yet. Fingers crossed.

  111. Ed says:

Memory Bank $250 deposit was coded at CAP ONE as P2P. A $250 deposit initiated from DISC SAVINGS account (not cashback from a DISC credit card redemption) already on the way, will report back with the result.

  112. Ryan H says:

Hi everyone, quick question. When you all put in the promo code, did bolded language pop up right underneath setting forth that it was for Massachusetts residents only and targeted? Just want to make sure that this isn’t a new development before I jump in. Thanks so much!

    • Ed says:

I saw the same language and ignored it. If the $400 doesn’t post it looks like $100 is being offered to several who called as a “consolation” prize. That’s not bad for two $250 DDs and only a week or two of your time.

    • NBG says:

I did get that for my wife app on 5/24. But took the risk and bonus posted last week. I did ask the same q’n here before and folks confirmed the same experience.

  113. Ryan says:

For those of you mentioning that Discover works as DD, would a Discover Savings account work? Or is it something else you used?

    • NBG says:

I think they mean the Cashback bonus deposit from Discover. That is what i tried based on past DD, it didn’t work for me until i had 2 real employer DD’s. Best option is the GS Bank Savings.

  114. Ryan says:

Where did you guys enter the promo code? I was not able to find a place to enter that code at all….

  115. Jay says:

Positive DP for ACH push from Schwab Brokerage:

    – Not targeted via any channel
    – Not living in the targeted geographic area of MA
    – No previous checking accounts with any banks affiliated with Cap One
    – Did enter the promo code PLUS400 on the funding page

    – 06/12: Account opened and funded
    – 06/12: Initiated trial deposit verification from Schwab Brokerage account
    – 06/13: Confirmed trial deposit amounts, and scheduled the two ACH pushes a few days apart.
    – 06/15: First ACH push posts to account.
    – 06/19: Second ACH push posts to account.
    – 06/22: Account opening bonus posts to account.

The Schwab Brokerage deposits posted as:
    “Transaction Type:Deposit
    Info:Moneylink
    Appears on your statement as:
    Deposit from SCHWAB BROKERAGE MONEYLINK”

  116. Jab says:

2 transfers of 250 from schwab brokerage few days ago and today bonus posted

  117. Daniel says:

I’m seeing ACH as a method of completing the Direct Deposit requirement, but can I use any bank, or only the few like Schwab or Fidelity that I’m seeing mentioned seperately?

  118. plungerjoke says:

Similar specifics to above posters. Bonus posted today as well.

Any chance they try to claw this back? I certainly do not live in Boston MA.

  119. JuicyJosh says:

Not targeted. Not in target area. Previously opened joint MM acct with wife to use a hub with $200 bonus.

6/3/17 – Opened 2 individual accounts for spouse and self, $50 transfer opening deposit from MM
(had to open brokerage at Vanguard for spouse and manually link Fidelity with paper form for self)
    6/14/17 – Acct 1 Vanguard ACH for $251, Acct 2 Fideilty ACH for $251
    6/19/17 – Acct 1 Vanguard ACH for $251, Acct 2 Fideilty ACH for $251
    6/22/17 – Both accounts, Cha ching $400

Will be moving funds out tomorrow. Thanks DoC and all DP suppliers.

  120. Jenn says:

    6/12 $20 Opened
    6/15 2 $250 Employer DD
    6/22 $400 bonus that afternoon

  121. Rocky says:

    I give up….
4/28- Opened account w/ $15 Fund from Debit Card
    5/15 – 2x $300 transfer from Quorum FCU
    6/1- $251 Employer DD
    6/2- $1,000 Deposit from PayPal
    6/8- $251 Employer DD
    6/20- $251 ACH
    6/20- $251 Santander push
    6/22- $251 ACH

This was my SOs account, but this clearly isn’t going to work for us. I double checked the coupon code when the account was opened but I guess we will just have to call and see if it was applied, purely out of curiosity as I have since given up on bonus. Not targeted, do not live in targeted area. 🙁

    • Ken says:

What bank did you do the ACH from for 6/20 and 6/22? Fidelity and Goldman Sachs is known to work.

    • Information Booth says:

Hey, I feel your pain. I’ve sent many an ACH and still haven’t triggered the bonus. I’ve got enough time left to do a GS push. My suggestion is to call and request the $100 bonus they’ve been giving to some people. It’s better than nothing. Hope this helps. Love in Christ.

  122. Yet Another Redditor says:

Another DP – Not targeted, not in Boston
    Account opened Jun 1
DD from Citi, Chase, WF, Robinhood, Discover – One of these must have triggered it.
    Bonus on 6/22

    • Jon says:

Was your discover transfer from a discover savings account or discover cashback deposit?

    • Yet Another Redditor says:

These are the transaction descriptions for the banks

      Discover Bank P2p FirstName LastName
      ROBINHOOD (CRFN) ACH
      WELLS FARGO DDA TO DDA
      JPMorgan Chase Ext Trnsfr
      CITIBANK XFER P2P FirstName LastName

Robinhood, Wells Fargo and Chase do not list as P2P
      Only Robinhood lists as ACH

  123. Nancy says:

DP from my dad…He deposited $250 two times from TD Ameritrade on 6/15. The $400 bonus hit his account on 6/22. He’s in CA, so not targeted as well.

  124. Austin says:

DP – Not targeted, not in Boston
Based on DoC tweet, two accounts opened on 6/10 (for me and my spouse)
Two separate payroll direct deposits to each account on 6/15 (one for $250, one for $251)
    Bonuses received on 6/22

    Thanks!

  125. Austin Auclair says:

If I skip the step of funding the account can i still get the bonus?
