$10 Off $10 on Amazon when Paying with Citi ThankYou Points

Via Slickdeals, you can get $10 off a purchase of $10 when paying with Citi ThankYou points.

The Offer

[Update: Direct Link]

Spend $10+ on Amazon and pay with your linked Citi ThankYou Points and get $10 off the order.

We had a similar deal with Discover shop-with-points. And then with Amex shop-with-poins. Now it’s Citi’s turn.

Here’s what to do:

  • Link your eligible Citi card to your Amazon.com account here.
  • Add products sold and shipped by Amazon.com to your Shopping cart. This is important; it won’t work on marketplace items.
  • Enter the promo code SWP10TYP in the box provided on the checkout page.
  • Pay at least $.01 with your Citi ThankYou points.
  • Up to $10 of savings will be reflected on the final order checkout page.

From what I gather, if your order is $9.50, for example, and you pay $.01 with points, you will be able to get the $9.49 discount. But I’m not positive about this; you may need a minimum order of $10.01 in order to get the discount.

$10 discount will work on third party gift cards sold on Amazon. From what I gather, it won’t work on Amazon gift cards.

With this offer and with the past Discover/Amex offers, not everybody has success with it. There are some reports of people who had success despite not having been targeted, but others have not had success. If you run into a problem, you can try chatting with Amazon and seeing if they’ll manually apply the $10 credit. Many people have had success in the past getting the credit by chatting with an Amazon rep. It’s possible that would work with this offer too.

The Fine Print

I haven’t found any official Amazon page for this offer, so I don’t know what the expiration date of the offer is.

[Update: Expires November 23, 2014]

Our Verdict

Sounds like a nice offer, if it works for you. I don’t have any Citi ThankYou cards, so I couldn’t try it out.  On the Discover offer last month, I didn’t have success getting the credit reflected automatically, but I did get it by chatting with an Amazon rep. This current offer may be tougher since (AFAIK) there’s no official Amazon page mentioning the offer.

If you don’t have anything to buy, you’ll probably find a third-party gift card worth buying at a $10 discount.

Nice find! Doesn’t seem to work with Amazon gift cards or 3rd party gift cards ($10 or $15 value). Magazine subscriptions are not working either.
