Does the $200 have to be all rental cost or will you get the benefit if you have a rental for less than $200 but then when you add in the add on insurances etc it pushes you over $200

Rent from a Turo host like me! I have never once thrown a renter in jail.

Although the police did help me repo a car after a renter went awol…

There is no amount of money, literally no amount of money that could get any non-zombie to use Hertz at this point. Amex needs to drop Hertz and move its promotional deals to National

Some of us don’t have easy access to National locations with the hours we need.

All kidding aside about arrested, I just finished a hellish rental from a Hertz franchisee in which they “accidently” doubled the bill after I turned in the car, admitted their error, but still took eight weeks of constant communication before I got my money back. Hertz corporate was sympathetic but refused to do anything, saying it was the franchisee’s issue. Moral – Be concerned who actually owns the company that rents you the car, not just the logo.

As many here have mentioned, AVIS is far superior if the choice is there.

Hertz: spend $200 and get a free trip to police station. Courtesy 3 night stay in jail, take home a pile of legal documents, lawyers not included.

Yes. It’s become an open issue with Hertz. A few bits of the coverage include this (https://www.inc.com/minda-zetlin/40-hertz-customers-prosecuted-driving-rental-cars-stephen-scherr.html) or this (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2022/03/31/hertz-arrests-senate-warren-blumenthal-investigation-rental-car/7233969001/).

Combining dozens of false reports with a mediocre response from Hertz corporate when demonstrated to be in the wrong has been an exceptionally bad look.

Dang, nothing for me. Was hesitant about booking Hertz, but reserved a model Y for 3 days for $260. I rarely rent cars, but seemed like a good price. Hopefully I don’t get arrested.

Any quick trick to make my rates go just $10 higher?
My weekend rate is 190.96. New reservation will be over $400.

Include some useless add-on like gps or siriusxm

But make sure that useless service is not per day unless you are supplementing with Monopoly money.

The cheapest insurance option should do it for you

Again, that is per day and the reference to weekend rate of the OP could mean total days not just one.
