Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
No longer any monthly fee.
The regular checking account has a $7 monthly fee. This is waived with a minimum daily balance of $500, or average daily balance of $1,000 during each statement is maintained.
Early Account Termination Fee
Wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any early account termination fee or not. Bonus is forfeit if closed within six months.
Our Verdict
Looks like a lot of people need to apply for reconsideration and provide additional documents after initially being denied. They did have a $500 bonus with no direct deposit in the past, but that did require opening the account in branch. Still think this bonus is worth doing if you’re eligible. Will add it to our best bank bonus page.
Process of getting approved:
- Replied to the denial letter onlineaccount AT bankofhope DOT com asking how I can get approved.
- Received a response same business day asking for photo of front/bank of DL
- Replied same business day
- Received an Approval/Funding email the next business day

Found on Slickdeals first and it worked with my CO address.
Here were someone elses tips that helped me get approved and the trial deposits confirmed:
1) Open the account under “unemployed” and just list out your place of employment in the section below, i was able to get approved automatically
2) The linking of the bank account: i had to use the test trial deposit option since the login feature didn’t work for me and for the trial deposits, once you see the deposits in your external account, go to “apply.bankofhope.com/resume” this will allow you to finish your application because the account isn’t fully opened yet.
3) I chose existing account and logged in, which allowed me to enter my trial deposits.
4) The customer service agent told me once the trial deposits are verified, that allows bank of hope to pull from your external account (which is the $25 opening deposit). I’ve never had this done before where the bank pulls from my account vs me initiating the transfer. But she mentioned that pull takes around 1-3 biz days and once it’s funded (where you see the $25 deposit), then you’ll be able to add external accounts and do other stuff with it.
Thanks, I was having trouble finding where to enter those trial deposits!
Also could not find anywhere to verify trial deposits. They never emailed me anything on how to do so despite it saying they would.
Doug, I hope that these bank bonuses can help you get through tough times. Thanks for your big heart for sharing this useful info
Doug W.
Thanks my friend, this is super helpful. I have been looking for how to verify the trial deposit. Found this comment, and did verify the account, almost a week after the bank sent me the link to verify LOL.
Applied 1/31.
Spoke with a rep 3/13 who said they’d work on my acct opening.
Received an email TODAY saying they couldn’t open the acct because they couldn’t confirm my identity.
Nearly 180 days to be rejected! New personal record.
Got same email. Couldn’t believe it.
Do you suspect they just said this to everybody who had a pending application and did not really try to actually open our accounts? Maybe they violated some law. They got a lot of personal information, and if they didn’t actually try to open our accounts I feel like I was wronged. If they were really processing our applications over the past 180 days shouldn’t there have been rolling notifications instead of a blanket notice all at once?
I anyone else still having difficulty logging in? Neither P2 nor I can log in. The system says the login credentials are incorrect.
I just logged in for the 1st time in months with no problem.
I opened my account February 19th and have not had to re-do my credentials.
RM
Did a rep tell you that? If so, they are incorrect as I opened my account in Feb and didn’t have to reset anything. 😉
Yes, that’s what the rep told me. Had to reset everything.
I know better than anyone that most reps cannot be trusted. That’s why I try to give credit to reps that really stand out during my churning career. 😀
Anyone else’s account get closed? I had at least $25 in it (last time I checked was last month) and I logged in with no active accounts
Yes I have that too. I had my direct deposit still going there, but would withdraw it right away. There should be a penny in it. I will call them to see what happened.
I tried calling but there was a long hold time and I had to go to work. I’ll try calling again later. Were you able to find out anything?
I sent a message and am in the phone queue, but nothing else so far
Ok, sounds like it’s an issue on their end. Thank you for the info!
Account is showing again last night. Time to get my money out in preparation for closing on 6 month mark lol
They told me they are experiencing an outage.
2/19: Opened in branch with $100 cash
4/15: $500 real direct deposit DD
4/30: $500 real direct deposit DD

Got this bonus recently for P1-P3. Only Wise was used to trigger all 3 bonuses. The Wise transfers were funded from Wise balances, so each transfer only cost $1.13. Unlike BMO, the Wise connected ACH deposit option was not needed to trigger this bonus.
2/1 – Applied online with promo code LUNAR, apps went pending
2/27-2/28 – We each called the bank to get a decision on our applications before they were cancelled, all were approved later in the day (notified by email)
3/3 – Trial deposits posted in external account for initial deposit
3/5 – $25 initial funding from Cap One 360 debited from external account source
3/7 – $25 initial funding from Cap One 360 checking posted to new Bank of Hope account
3/24 – Set up $1k Wise transfer to trigger direct deposit requirement
3/25 – $1k Wise DD with “Payroll” keyword in memo line posted
4/29 – $388 checking bonus posted
I initially got worried after seeing Gadget’s post in that he received his bonus on the same day that his DD posted. Don’t know why some people got theirs so quickly, and others had to wait for the next monthly batch of bonuses to post, but I’m glad that mine did. I was eventually going to try Bluevine, Robinhood and Relay, but then my bonus posted, so I never needed to.
I believe that we were all approved so quickly after calling in because we are all in footprint. I’m glad that I didn’t have to go in branch for apply for this offer, though.
I haven’t tried to withdraw any money out of my account yet, but my P2 did, and she was locked out of making external transfers shortly after her first attempt. So, maybe bill pay or an external pull will be the better route for withdrawing money from this bank. Though, I’ll keep a small balance in my account for at least the next few months so that it doesn’t get auto closed, and my bonus doesn’t get clawed back.
I pulled the entire balance except for $25 on 4/9/25 via LendingClub, no issues.
I guess I really had awesome timing, and maybe they just randomly go around at the end of the month granting wishes.
Did your P2 have luck pulling?
I used both bill pay and pulled money out using LCB and experienced no issues for either.
Easy straightforward bonus once the account was finally opened.
