  • Code may take 24 hours to work for newly created teen logins
  • Promotional code expires at 11:59 p.m. (PT) [May 13, 2018]

Our Verdict

This has the potential to be very profitable, I guess we will find out in 24 hours (or sooner if somebody already has a teen account set up). It’s also worth noting that teen accounts are highly restricted, more on that here.

It’s not Amazon’s fault.
Some people abused the offer and they had no choice but to pull it.

“Abused”? That’s human nature. It’s why companies should set limits so you can’t buy thousands in gift cards.

You will be abused if you set yourself up for abuse like this. Probably some incompetent guy at amazon running this promo who should just be fired.

Did they actually advertise this promo anywhere? It doesn’t seem to have gotten very far around the blogosphere. Was Vipul’s order enough to kill it? 🙂

Can’t claim abuse when the company set up the rules and we’re just playing within them.

Looks dead now. Got 2800 worth of Airbnb eGCs with 20% discount. Stacked with 5% chase amazon + 1% spent money app. Awesome deal.

Should be profitable for reselling also since I got them for 25% discount overall (even though I just plan to use them organically)

I’m getting “the promotional code you entered has expired.” Is that the error if the account is too new or has this run it’s course?

The promo code I entered has expired. I created the teen account last night. This message was different than the one I was getting last night about my cart not being eligible.

Yup, this just gets weirder and weirder. What briefly started working for me (and others) late last night isn’t working now. I’m getting the “expired” message. I guess we’ll see if it goes live again. At least I bought $200 in third party GCs with discounted Amazon GCs during the brief window. Obviously, I would have bought more (even without discounted Amazon GCs) had I known the deal would be instantly pulled.

Any DPs on whether this discount works on GCs that are not specifically listed on the Mother’s Day sale page, such as Safeway?

sounds like a promo where teens need help. “mayday teen”.

So it seems to now be working for me. It was a little glitchy at first, as I tried to buy an airbnb gift card from the mother’s day page (search “mother’s day gifts” on their app) and it didn’t work. I then added a hotels.com gift card and the code worked for both of them (I then removed the hotels.com item and it kept the 20% discount for airbnb. I am currently awaiting email delivery of that card.

Yesterday, I happened to buy some Amazon gift cards at Lowes (with an AMEX offer discount) and held them until today to see if I could use them on the teen account. Indeed, you can — but it seems like the total gift card amount has to be at least as much as the items in your cart (I don’t know what happens if you’re over — I assume the remaining balance is stored in the teen’s account). But I’m now out of discounted Amazon gift cards. I do have a substantial Amazon gift card balance in my own account, however (when there are promos that allow me to buy discounted Amazon GCs, I buy them and load them to my account). Is there any way for my teen to use my regular account’s Amazon GC balance? That doesn’t seem to be one of the payment options, but in the “settings” there’s a reference to sending your teen “a gift card balance.” Any idea how?

I tried several Amazon gift cards designs but they don’t work. Anybody knows any specific Amazon gc design that works?

I’d be shocked if this code allows you to buy Amazon’s own gift cards at a discount. They’ve never allowed such a thing. In all likelihood, you can only buy 3rd party gift cards. BTW, to get the discount, does the 3rd party GC actually have to be listed on the Mother’s Day page? Same rule for merchandise?
