According to the WSJ Amazon wants to bring ‘Amazon Pay’ into brick and mortar stores. They plan to target businesses that aren’t in direct competition with Amazon (e.g gas stations & restaurants) as they expect push back from other retailers that see Amazon as a threat to their core business. To encourage businesses to sign on Amazon will offer them lower payment processing fees or marketing services. It’ll be interesting to see how these purchases code as a number of credit cards earn 5% cash back on all Amazon purchases (and previously Amazon Pay has worked with Discover for example).
