American Express: 5,000 Points When You Add AU To PRG & Spend $500 Within Three Months

The Offer

Direct link (login and card details required to see offer)

  • Get a bonus 5,000 Amex Membership Rewards points when you add an authorized user to your Premier Rewards Gold card and spend $500 within 3-months

This is a targeted offer. Use the above link to login, and after selecting the PRG card it will show the bonus offer if you are targeted. Seems to be working for everyone, but YMMV. E-mail subject line is “Please read, Because you’re appreciated, earn extra Membership Reward points – Add An Additional Card”.

amex authorized user bonus

The Fine Print

  • $500 spend can be done on the new AU card or any other AU card, but not on the primary card
  • Bonus points can take 8-12 weeks to post (usually it posts much faster)
  • Limit one 5,000 bonus per primary card (adding two AUs won’t get you two bonuses)

Our Verdict

We’ve seen similar offers on other cards (and even the same offer on this card) before:

As always there are three things to keep in mind when considering these deals:

  • No fee to add an additional cardholder
  • These authorized user accounts do count towards the Chase 5/24 rule
  • SSN is required (not required if you add AU by chat, at least instantly).

It comes up when I go through but I think I did this in the past so it probably wouldn’t work then?

Sweet! Worked for me though had to load the page a few times.

Maybe a dumb question, but- are amex offers also available on the AU card? Would that show up under my own account when I login?

you’ll have to first add the additional card to your online login to see it and manage amex offers associated with it

Unless the rules have changed, You just have to create a seperate login for the AU card and you have access to all offers. Never associate it to the existing login.

For Blue Cash Everyday the offer is $25 statement credit after spending $250 on adding AU …. I was able to do this along with PRG … but no luck with SPG … Thanks DOC …

Is it possible to add a fake name without social?

“These authorized user accounts do count towards the Chase 5/24 rule”

If I opened PRG in 2013 and add authorized user now, would it still count for 5/24 for the auth user? Wouldn’t it show in the auth user credit report as if the account was in the report since 2013? No?

It will show on AU report as new account with opening date being the date you added the AU. I had this issue with Amex that caused me to be declined for chase card due to 5/24

So if I added auth user card in Amex (without giving SSN) in June 2016 and update the card with SSN now (March 2017), will it show up in the credit report as March 2017 or June 2016?

please elaborate on adding AU via chat. They don’t ask for SSN? is it only when you are getting card under your name or even for someone else?

Yes, and if you add an AU via chat, do you need to mention the offer? I’d like to add someone (real person) but don’t want it to count against their 5/24 status. So can I just chat and add them by name but never submit the SSN?

Can I add my wife is she already has a PRG as well and still get credit?

Does an AU trigger the Amex once per lifetime rule?

Had the identical offer over the phone back in /Dec when I called on a Fraud Alert on the PRG. The phone rep after cleared the fraud alert, proceeded to make 2 offers on the PRG card –
1) Pay over time with 10K.
2) Sign up an AU and spend $500 within 90 days on ANY AU card for 5K. The phone rep assured me the spend could be from existing AU card when I hesitated in signing up additional AU.

1) was posted immediately.
2) despite the spend was met on Jan 2nd on an existing AU card, the bonus is still missing. Not even in the Pending stage, despite 8 weeks has just passed.
Just did an online chat and the chat rep could not do anything. He initially did not even know the eligible spend could be from any AU card.

Plan to call AMEX tomorrow on this. Be prepared to fight for this if the spend is not from the new AU card, even though the offer term said it can be from any AU card including the existing ones before signing up the offer. While the language may have updated to this, the system might still think the spend had to be from the new AU card like in the past! Otherwise there is no explanation on why I still dont see any bonus.

Hey Will, I see a post at the end of last year https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amex-prg-5000-bonus-mr-points-adding-authorized-user/ and the direct link URLs seem the same. Can I get the bonus again if I already did last year’s? By looking at the banner in the email it seems these are different offers. This type of offer also once per lifetime?

I also have the same question, but when I open two offer links (the current post and the link last year you mentioned)

I find the link address lead to exactly the same one, with the same numerical part in the very end, so I assume it is the same one.

Hey, is this the same offer with last year this one https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amex-prg-5000-bonus-mr-points-adding-authorized-user/?

Because I got my PRG eariler this month, and use the aforementioned link https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amex-prg-5000-bonus-mr-points-adding-authorized-user/ ,took the AU offer already. If your post is another offer, does it means I can add another AU and get another 5000MR? maybe too good to be true?

I checked the screen cut when I added then, all the terms looks similar.

I am going to have to call American Express in the morning as well. The same thing happened to me. I spent $500 on the other authorized user cards and I never got my bonus.
