(YMMV) American Express Business Platinum 170,000 Points Offer

Update 9/3/23: Offer is reportedly back by googling ‘american express platinum’ and finding the offer page there. (I couldn’t get it to show, personally.) Reddit user dissentmemo found this google link to get the 170k offer. That worked for me after a few incognito attempts.

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (try incognito or various browsers to see if you can get it to show)

  • Get 170,000 points after $15,000 in spend within the first three months of card membership.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $695 is not waived the first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5x points per $1 spent on purchases made with airlines or hotels booked directly from American Express Travel website
    • 1.5x points on qualifying purchases of $5,000 or more
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • $200 airline incidental credit per calendar year
  • Lounge access:
    • Centurion lounge access
    • International American Express lounge access
    • Delta SkyClub lounge access
    • Priority pass select membership
    • Airspace lounge access
  • Marriott gold status
  • Hilton gold status
  • Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre✓
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • $200 in Dell credits twice each year (Jan-June, July-Dec)
  • $10 wireless credit each calendar month
  • $189 CLEAR Credit
  • 35% redemption bonus when redeeming for select travel via the Amex Travel portal
  • View these other hidden benefits
  • You can only get the sign up bonus on American Express cards once per lifetime.

There is lifetime language on this offer (though you can easily just apply, anyway, and see whether they give you a popup or not): “Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.”

Our Verdict

Reader CM reported seeing this offer, and I was able to find it on multiple incognito browsers. We’ve seen massive targeted offers of 260,000 or 230,000, but for the regular folk 150,000 or 160,000 have been the best offers available. It’s nice to see a new high 170,000 with the same $15,000 spend requirement.

A reader notes that if you friend/spouse has a high Amex referral bonus, you might prefer signing up there if you can get 150k bonus + 25k referral bonus (just note the tax implications on the referral bonus side).

You can read about my own recent Amex Business Platinum card signup bonus here. If this is widely accessible we’ll add it to our list of Best Current Credit Card Signup Bonuses.

seeing an offer of 190,000 points after spending $15,000 in 3 months using that link. So looks like the offer is even higher than the 170k mentioned here now!

If you’ve had the card before but dont get the popup, does that mean you’ll get the SUB?

I was able to get the 190K offer to show up. I’ve been in Amex pop-up jail for years so I didn’t expect this one to work, but when I clicked “Submit”, I got insta-approved?!

Is there anyway for me to check that I’ll be getting the 190K bonus?

Anyone found a 250k link as reported by couple of travel blogs?

Nah it’s dead now, think it was a leaked/hacked link.

I can pretty much get the 190k link consistently, but Amex then gives me the pop-up jail. Same thing with the 200k and 150k referral offers. But if I use the NLL “targeted” email 120k offer, they approve me no problem. It’s been this way for the last 1-2 years (can never get a referral offer to not give me Pop Up Jail). Oh well, at least the 120k offer is better than nothing.

I don’t have this much spending to meet min spend. Previously always avoided high min spending credit card. If I fund checking or savings accounts with amex platinum, will they shut down my account?

It isn’t that Amex will shut down your account (they wont) but most banks do not accept Amex for account opening. It will be considerably difficult to hit 15k this way.

Thank you. In between asking questions here, Google search returned 190k offer. I took it. I didn’t pay attention to Lifetime language. In honesty, except the SUB, I don’t find the daily rewards very attractive. I have a busy job, can’t take time off. Don’t travel much. Then I am looking at just 1x points for daily use unless the chage is greater than 5000. Any other way that gives me higher rewards (they have some limited categories that earn 1.5x but not for daily use).

For the mobile credit, I have made 3 month prepayment with only $15 a month with mint. Their credit only works for month to month

Ben, respectfully, stop doing that and just add $10 to your wallet every month. In a year and a half you’ll have enough to cash in your wallet for a year of service for just $9.

I got an offer for 200K for 30K spend in 6 months for an LLC I just closed last year. I did not like the offer so threw it away, especially since I just missed triple dip.
