American Express & Delta Increase Status Boosts For 2021 By 25%

The American Express Delta Platinum & Reserve cards both offer status boosts for meeting certain spending requirements. For 2021 these boosts will be increased by 25%.

  • Platinum (personal & business): For every $25,000 spent you receive 12,500 MQM (normally 10,000), up to $50,000 in spend
  • Reserve (personal & business): For every $30,000 spent you receive 18,750 MQM (normally 15,000), up to $120,000 in spend

Can’t imagine this will be enough to get anybody to move a lot of spend on these cards. I suspect Delta and other airlines will make it easy to earn elite status for the 2022.

Wish they hadn’t gotten rid of the bonus SkyMiles. I had done the $25K on the DL Platinum card for the MQD waiver primarily, and the MQMs and RDMs were nice to have as well.

I could see putting $25k in spend on my plat if they renew the “500 miles and 500 MQMs per $1000” offer that expires 31 Dec, or a 4x grocery deal or something. I’m 2/24 and have most cards I need- I guess citi double cash is my default “everything else” card. It might be worth putting that spend on plat for a chance to get delta platinum status, if I was close anyway. IDK.

Assuming this is retroactive if you hit the threshold earlier in the year?

If so this bumps me above 50k for Gold. Whenever I fly again that is.

It says it’s for 2021, not 2020; I read that to mean that it’s for spending in 2021, not qualifications for status in 2021, rather for status in 2022.

The Reserve boost will allow you to get one-time Platinum status with $120K spend (75K MQMs) so that might appeal to a few people.

That’s a lot of spend for some fancy luggage tags.

Yet people care if a credit card is metal…

Those don’t wear out as quickly at the grocery store.

If you’re still “wearing out” cards, you’re doing it wrong. Apple/Samsung Pay aside, many cards can be tapped on the reader, no need to insert or swipe.

Just because you don’t like to insert doesn’t mean the rest of us share the same lifestyle choices. You do you.

Parts Unknown yeah, way too much spendy… but if you do go for it, enjoy those 4 RUCs (if you pick ‘em)

Kind of crazy that Delta hasn’t announced any status requirement changes for next year at all yet other than what they said back in the spring about rollovers.

Or increased spend incentives on their Amex cards. I like the 4x on grocery last summer, would love to see it come back in January.

they did announce a special change for 2021..whatever your MQM balance on 12/31 is will be your MQM balance on 1/1/21…you just have to do the MQD/credit card spend requirement,
