American Express To Launch 100,000 Business Platinum Offer Tomorrow & How To Maybe Get A Better Offer Today

Tomorrow American Express will launch a 100,000 point bonus on the Business Platinum card. The downside to this offer is that it’ll require a total of $25,000 in spend to receive the full bonus. It has been possible to get a 100,000 point bonus on this card simply by calling in, we detail that method here. The only problem with that method is that American Express has discontinued physical mailers, but I still think it’s worth trying. The spend requirement on that offer is $10,000, much more achievable for most readers.

There is also currently a 75,000 point offer with no lifetime language and only a $5,000 spend requirement. Missing out on 25,000 points for an extra $5,000 spend isn’t great, but missing out on 25,000 points for an extra $20,000 in spend doesn’t matter nearly as much. Keep in mind this card comes with the following:

  • Annual fee of $450 is not waived the first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5x points per $1 spent on purchases made with airlines and hotels booked from AmericanExpress Travel website
    • 1.5x points on qualifying purchases of $5,000 or more
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • $200 airline incidental credit per calendar year
  • Lounge access:
    • Centurion lounge access
    • International American Express lounge access
    • Delta SkyClub lounge access
    • Priority pass select membership
    • Airspace lounge access
  • Internet Access:
    • Unlimited Boingo internet access
  • SPG gold status (this will also give you Marriott Gold status)
  • Hilton gold status
  • Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre✓
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • View these other hidden benefits
  • SoulCycle benefits

It will be interesting to see how the spend requirement is broken down tomorrow (it’s likely to be tiered).

They’re toying with us. Six months from now it’ll be 100,000 for $30,000 spend then a year from now it’ll be 100,000 points for $40,000 spend. For that spend we can get four or five cards.

25k spending? No thanks. It is definitely better to have 8x 3k spending card. That would give many, many times the value of 100k MR points.

Argh, and I just went for the 75k/$20k offer last month. Any hope for getting matched into the 100k/$25k offer? Does Amex do this?

Re: “5x points per $1 spent on purchases made with airlines”
Isn’t that only on the Personal Platinum?

I believe Biz Plat is “5X Membership Rewards Points on flights and prepaid hotels booked at Amextravel.com”, while the Personal Plat is “5X Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel / 5X Membership Rewards points on prepaid hotels booked on amextravel.com “

Hi Will,

I think it would make much more sense if you say air travel AND hotels thru amextravel, because the post says “5x with airlines…” the ‘or’ would be incorrect from a technical grammatical sense.

if i remember correctly, Amex Biz platinum also gives you 10x gogo inflight wifi pass per year. (not mentioned in this post)

Yeah, I was just checking that out, too: “Enjoy 10 complimentary Gogo inflight internet passes each calendar year and stay connected to your business in flight.” Honestly, I value that at least $50/year (and probably a bit more( in making my hold or cancel decision.

The other big thing in that decision is the 35% rebate on points used for F/J tickets and/or any tickets on your airline of choice. When you can often get another 5% or so off on an Insider’s Fare — and when I need to make EQDs and EQMs on AA (my airline of choice) — this makes a hoard of MR points more valuable.

Both of these are features you don’t get on personal Amex Plat (not to mention a $450 fee instead of $550). No love for AUs, though.
