Our Verdict

This is the first transfer bonus we’ve seen to Avianca I believe. You can view a full list of current and previous American Express transfer bonuses here. There are a few other transfer bonuses currently being offered:

This is a good deal if you need/want Lifemiles. I doubt we see a better bonus in the short/medium term, but it’s really hard to know given this is the first transfer bonus we have seen from Avianca. It’s possible that this transfer bonus is only being offered due to the recent Avianca/MR downtime.

Are avianca miles good? It seems they worth more than the other miles for redemption what do you think

Yes, although the 25% bonus from Citi 3 months ago was obviously better. http://lazytravelers.net/citi-25-percent-bonus-transferring-to-avianca-lifemiles/

I usually travel to asia and use asia miles on Cathay but I also go to japan do you think it is better getting avianca? I never got the bonus offer from MR except the 40% for avios.

Great for short-haul United flights in the US; no close-in booking fee and better rates than Aeroplan.

Downside is the $25 ticketing fee that applies to all bookings.

Good point. $25 booking fee on non-Avianca flights and $0 close-in/booking fee on Avianca flights

Great for Avianca flights in Central and South America. Also good for United flights elsewhere. Remember there is a $25 booking fee on non-Avianca flights.

If one buys 100,000 LifeMiles the effective cost with the current 115% bonus is 1.5cpp. That’s in line with the value of MRs.
