American Express WeWork Benefits Released and Available for Signup

[Update 2/8/19: Benefit is now available for signup. Again, it’s not smart to signup now if you don’t intend to use it right away. Wait until you are ready to use it, and then you’ll get a year from that signup date.]

One of the changes going into effect on the American Express Business Platinum is the addition of:

  • One year of complimentary Platinum Global Access from WeWork ($2,700 value), a network of premium workspaces around the world. With Platinum Global Access, enjoy over 300 workspaces in 75+ cities and 20+ countries.

WeWork has now created a dedicated landing page for this offer that can be found here. Some details:

  • You will be available to sign up for this benefit starting on 2/8/2019 (12:00 a.m. EST)
  • You must enroll in this benefit by 12/31/2019

As we’ve alluded to previously it looks like you could sign up on 12/31/2019 and keep this benefit until 12/31/2020. It also looks like this will just be a one time benefit, rather than an ongoing annual benefit always offered.

Would an authorized user on the card get access as well?

William Charles there is a language allowing them to cancel WeWorks membership if you close your Amex Biz card (which many are planning to do). If that is the case there is no need to wait for enrolling. I guess we will not know if that rule is enforced until people start closing/downgrading cards.

From T&C:
“Your year of complimentary Platinum Global Access may be cancelled if you do not have an eligible Card or if you cancel your Card membership before the year ends. Before enrolling in the offer, WeWork and American Express will verify your offer eligibility.”

From WeWork’s landing page for this offer:

“When can I access a WeWork building?

You’ll be able to access WeWork locations around the globe during normal business hours, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday. Please note that local business days/hours vary by country. All space needs to be booked ahead of time.”

It sounds limited based on this language. Maybe some people can use office space between 9am and 6pm. FNot worth it for me, since I would use it at night and on weekends

This benefit looks similar to or is a variation of what is offered by Croissant or Classpass, both of which are memberships that allow you to visit WeWork and other coworking spaces that are being underutilized. So my guess is that the Amex benefit won’t let you go to any WeWork, only the ones that have availability that day. If you feel the Amex benefit is too restricted, it may be worth a look at these memberships that let you check out a variety of coworking spaces. They are good values and offer lots of flexibility depending on your needs.

Are we going to receive a 1099 form after claiming this benefit? Income tax on the full cash value $2700?
Omg I’m so worried.

I just got registered at WeWork and was given a keycard. Looks like it’s 9-6, M-F access only.

They don’t kick you out. Also I just got in on a weekend so maybe it’s not 9-6 after all.

It looks like if you plan on cancelling your business platinum card within the next year, you might as well sign up now.

From the WeWork Link: “Your year of complimentary Platinum Global Access may be cancelled if you do not have an eligible Card or if you cancel your Card membership before the year ends. Before enrolling in the offer, WeWork and American Express will verify your offer eligibility.”

Am I correct?

I’m guessing that, in practice, once you sign up you’ll get a year, even if you cancel the card before year’s end. Just a guess.
Certainly make sure to signup before cancelling your card.

i’m guessing that’s not the case. i assume it will be like priority pass, when you close your card your priority pass is canceled immediately (even if you just got a new priority pass card with an expiration one year later)

They say within 3 business days, but it seems like they’re sending the email within an hour or two of registering. I just got mine and have access to reserve a spot now.

Yeah, I got an e-mail in ~one hour too. I tried to book a spot, but the location closest to me is full. That doesn’t bode well….
