[Expired] American Express Will Offer $10 ‘Shop Small’ Credit To Select Cardholders (June 29 – August 22)

Deal has ended, view more American Express deals by clicking here.

Deal now live, more information here.

American Express is sending out to their small businesses notification of an upcoming offer which will be sent out to select cardholders to get a statement credit of up to $10 when they Shop Small at a small business.

Those of you around this hobby for a while will remember the AmEx Small Business Saturday / Shop Small statement credit offers which we saw in earlier years. More recently this became a targeted offer and the details have varied, e.g. last year it the offer was to get $5 back on $10 in purchases, to be used up to 10 times.

This year the offer will be for a statement credit of up to $10 from June 29 – August 22, as indicated in correspondence AmEx is sending out to their small business owners. There are many things we don’t know yet about the offer, but interesting to know that’s something is upcoming.

  • Will it be widely available or highly targeted?
  • Will it be $10 back on $20 spend or $10 back on $10 spend or some other version?
  • Will it be a single $10 credit or multiple $10 credits?

Thanks to reader Greg for sharing this info – he got this email from AmEx pertaining to his small business.

Did we miss an update here? Two weeks ago, you wrote: “There are many things we don’t know yet about the offer….” Ok, given that it was supposed to have begun over a week ago, was there ever any follow-up? (ps, tried doing a site search…. maybe I’m still missing it?)

When I log on to my multiple amex accounts, sure, I see all the drivel about all the small businesses in my area, but no mention of any promotion…. Then see various non-starter dumb deals, 48 or so, under amex offers, listed by merchants I’ve never heard of, mostly not anywhere near me, supposedly under some vague “shop small” amex offers…. (only one of which says $10 off $30)

Last year’s promo was decent, actually got me in to local markets I’d not shopped at before. This year, seems Amex has yet again killed their own deal….

ps, you closed: “interesting to know that’s something is upcoming”

Really?

Email or within amex offers? I see the small business map when I log in but no reference to an offer/statement credit.

The Shop Small map suddenly starting showing in my account home page again just like it did last year during the promo. They appear to be preparing the system for the promo.

I thought the last several years the “promo” was just to go all rah-rah about supporting small businesses without actually giving any bonuses for doing that, which is pretty ironic because Amex itself is a huge oligopoly that preys on small businesses.

Nothing on P1/P2 – even after making room for new offers.

Suppose, I’ll have check AU account.

Can’t really complain – last year snagged $350 with Shop small across personal and AUs cards.

It doesn’t start until June 29th… Also you don’t have to make room for new offers anymore, they are divided into categories allowing you to see more than 100 offers now.

Only ever seen max of 100 (not including added offer’s).

That said on second thought – since it’s only $10 not going to waste much time trying to search on all the AU cards. If they till out later the. Fine.

The ability to see more than 100 is brand new, it was just added like a week ago. You can see there are categories now, and each of those categories can show up to 100. So in the main view it’s still limited to 100, but if you switch to the different categories you can see the rest.

Will we have to jump through hoops to get credited like last time, though? …I didn’t see that offer, but I got a $10 off $50 amz offer.

Chuck Frequent Miler has a post on how to get these to show. Not sure if the $10 credit referenced is different?

I went through this link and had the shop small offer show, but also interesting is my available offers show 103, instead of the normal limit of 100.

I have 132 available offers. Unfortunately, most of the additional offers are for restaurants that I never heard of, leading me to believe that they are nowhere near me.
